I am a symptomatic celiac and I did not get sick. The food was good but the service was not great. The waiter was pretty knowledgeable about gluten so that was nice but the workers were rude there and a 20% tip is automatically added to your bill no matter how big or small your party was. Also it’s mostly fish so if you don’t like fish I wouldn’t recommend. They did have some vegan options also. It was crazy expensive for a chicken sandwich and chips.. Overall it wasn’t a great experience but at least I didn’t get sick.

GF items marked on menu. No issues for me or my celiac daughter. Staff took safety super seriously and when I asked questions they went above and beyond to answer them accurately and erred on the safe side if there were open concerns!

Very few GF options, especially if you don’t like fish, but what they have from entrees and desserts is so delicious.

GF items not marked on the menu, but servers were helfup. Order the daily fish grilled, because they had a shared fryer. Food was great. All table sauces were GF.

We have been eating at this amazing restaurant for years. After my daughter was diagnosed with Celiac, we have found our Grand Marais experience very challenging- and even the higher rated locations were poor in knowledge and relatively uncaring.
We had an amazing experience here. The staff was caring and knowledgeable, and could easily help my daughter find the best choices of fish and sides. She had a wonderful experience and finally had a positive time eating out on the North Shore. So pleased.

They do not have items marked GF on the menu, but our server was knowledgeable about celiac, and the danger of cross contact. Their grill is GF but the fryer is not. They don’t have a separate prep area, but the server made sure the cook knew I had celiac so he could take cross contact precautions. I had the grilled whitefish with wild rice and salad, and it was delicious! It came with stir fried baby bok choy, which was not listed on the menu- I freaked out for a minute that it had soy sauce, but I asked and the server checked with the cook, and it was tamari, not soy sauce. You might need to ask to speak with someone else if your server is not knowledgeable, and understand that the whole town is really short staffed right now, but they do know what they’re doing with gluten free food. Only knocking off a star because the menu is not marked for GF.

Offers GF buns and some GF ingredient dishes. They offer no preparation accommodations for celiac to avoid cross-contamination. Hostess was not knowledgeable and did not care to be helpful. Walked out.

Amazing views. The wild rice salad was delicious. House salad was very fresh. Only taking a star off because service was very slow. Could be because of changes due to the pandemic.
Yes
They had mention of gf bun on the menu, but I had the wild rice with side salad. Amazing! All the dressings were home made and gf, staff was understanding and confident about gf right off the bat, salad was not boring at all and it was a good size helping.
No Gluten Free menu but staff was very helpful. Also have gluten free buns for sandwiches.
Excellent grilled fish. Although there is no GF menu the staff knew what was gluten free. I’ve eaten here about a dozen times and have never gotten sick. Would totally recommend this place.
Yes
They do NOT have a gluten-free free menu. Sandwiches are prepared on a common surface, so expect cross-contamination even if you get a gluten-free bun. Staff’s kind of snippy about it all. “You’re welcome to go to another restaurant but nobody in Grand Marais avoids cross-contamination”. They only menu options are the grilled items with the wild rice.

The Angry Trout has numerous items that are GF, and a flourless chocolate torte. The menu is not well marked, but the server was knowledgeable. The food is great, too!
