The staff are always incredibly friendly! The place is clean and adorable. For these reasons I gave this place three stars. I used to love eating here but things have really changed quite a bit over the past several months. Now the desserts tend to be quite dense, bland and overly sweet. I went there for my birthday with my spouse and bought two different cupcakes for each of us. My spouse took one bite and threw hers away. It was the only cake I was going to have for my birthday so I tried to eat half but I couldn’t manage to. It was so gross. It’s a real shame that the quality isn’t as good because I used to really enjoy Annie May’s. We have tried different baked goods on different occasions over the past year and it’s just bad. I said something to the manager because I would love to enjoy their goodies again. She said that no one else had complained and everything is the same as it always has been. Maybe people are not speaking up, I don’t know, I just know that it’s not good anymore. I don’t think we will be coming back, it’s not worth the money in the slightest.
Deleted previous review since they have changed to strictly bakery goods. Still delicious options but few savory items and I’m not a big sweets person.
Super exciting to have so many gluten free dairy free options especially considering we came at the very end of the day. The woman who helped us (I think the owner) with incredible patient and helpful. Our group tried cheesecake bars, cookies and cookie sandwiches, brownie and a cream filled chocolate cupcake. Not a dud in the mix. Everything was great. Snickerdoodle and filled cupcake were the favorites. Woman at the register was less friendly, but eh maybe it had been a long day. They are supposedly removing all of the top allergens in the next few months.
Very yummy.... first time eating at a gluten free bakery...., cupcakes good also had onion bagel, plan to order and have some delivered to my home!
Overall, super awesome. The thing is some of the baked goods are nasty. Stay away from the cinnamon rolls and donuts (the donuts are possibly the grossest baked good ever-the maple bacon donut tasted like straight up bacon lard). The high highlights from the bakery are their cupcakes, cookies, and brownies :)
Amazing! My daughter and I are from Indy and I have to say- WOW! Great bakery!!! If you have ever had gluten free, you know;DRY food, but at this bakery- cookies so moist you mistake you are eating something you are not supposed too. Also the cupcakes are fantastically moist and amazing. Can’t wait to try more items and have them delivered to my house in the near future. Absolutely a must if you in the life of celiac- try this bakery!!!
Well, it is allergy friendly, so that is awesome! GF, nut free, soy free. Friendly staff. I just wasn't all that impressed by the products. I tried a donut and cupcake, and my husband is actually the one who said they just kind of sank in your belly. Nothing tasted good, and I would dare to say it was quite gross. Things were too sweet, bland, and when I have a carrot cupcake, I want to see pieces of carrot in it! I am a tough critic bc I was professionally trained as a chef/pastry chef. I was so excited to try it, and have had really good GF baked goods in so cal, so I was hoping they had tested and perfected some delectable treats as well. Not so much. I am new to GF life, and know GF baking is a challenge, but was definitely disappointed.
Coming from an entire family with gluten sensitivity, this bakery is a godsend. It is refreshing to be able to walk into a place and not have to worry about being glutened. The owner knows her stuff and has suffered from celiac disease since she was a child. Everything we've tried so far have been amazingly delicious. They now offer soft-serve ice cream (dairy free!) and all sorts of goodies. I recommend the oatmeal creme pies and macarons!
Went there today for my son. We bought 3 cupcakes and a cookie. And everything was amazing. He ate ALL of them. No issues.
The absolute best for gluten-free treats! Disappointed they stopped their cafe service, but happy that meant they were able to expand their bakery menu. Incredibly knowledgeable and friendly staff.
Fantastic for an occasional treat if you can tolerate some gluten free grains. The owner is very aware of allergies in addition to celiac disease. Which is important because it seems most of us have additional restrictions besides gluten. LOVED the toaster pastries and doughnut. If you're also avoiding eggs and dairy you will still have plenty of options. I took the rest to go because I'm about to have a sugar coma. I'm sure everything else will be equally delicious.
Would give 5 stars for the fact that it is a gluten free facility and my kids with celiac can eat and order without worry. Three stars for service and food taste. We had toaster pastries, cupcakes, and doughnuts. The doughnuts were not a good choice, no one in the family liked them, ended up putting them in a bread pudding at home. Toaster pastries were mediocre. I didn't try, but kids liked the cupcakes. Also service, we were among the first in the store when it opened one day and the first lady to help us did not seem happy to be working with customers. She wasn't rude, just that when we are in a bakery (a happy place), you usually receive service with a smile and we did not get this. The second person to help us was much friendlier and if this had been our only employee encounter I would I have rated a 5 for service. I would say that even for gluten free, which you expect to pay more for, the prices were significantly higher than other gluten free bakeries we have been to. I wonder if this place was better when it was more of a breakfast place and not just a bakery?
This is a wonderful place to visit and be confident that food allergies are top priority! There are so many amazing sweet treats to choose from on a daily basis, so you can't go wrong. The staff are friendly, and every visit makes my belly and heart happy! :-)
I love this place! I was SO upset when they stopped serving breakfast and lunch. :( There are still plenty of delicious treats and a small GF frozen food selection. BRING BACK BREAKFAST AND LUNCH!!!
My husband has Celiac's Disease. We were planning a trip to Louisville and came across Annie May's Sweet Cafee on suggested GF websites. The staff was AMAZING. We made the trip to Louisville on Saturday and arrived to the shop around 10:30. We were heartbroken to find out they only make 55 donuts on Saturdays and were sold out. We did find out we can call ahead and reserve them which we will be doing next trip. We tried a toaster pastry and cinnamon roll fresh out of the oven, we could have died it was so good. We took some treats to go for a late night snack and were in love. We have the chocolate cookie sandwich and a red velvet chewy louie. For pictures and the full story follow celiacwifelife on Instagram, Facebook, and Pinterest. We can't wait to be back!
I would weigh twice as much if I lived near this place. I would eat every meal and snack here. I would probably be served with a no trespassing restraining order. Excellent food and staff!!!!!
I got a little carried away - French toast, pizza and treats to go - but everything was so delicious!
Great food!! One of my favorite places to eat in Louisville.
LOVE, highly recommend
Yes yes yes. Delicious! We had sweets from the case and a cheese pizza. So yummy! Coming back later for more before we leave town. Full review and pictures in the coming weeks at VegetarianMamma.com
Very yummy. Sandwiches just right size for kids. Only bad thing is rather small for adult. But yummy.
SO wonderful. My daughter loved the treats. Staff was lovely. Almost enough to move to Louisville?
In town again for business - stopped here for lunch and got a sandwich, cupcake, and super cookie to take home to NJ. All amazing, worth the $$. Louisville is not so kind to Celiacs on business. Original; 7/29/15: In town for business and tried this Cafe, loved it!! Did not try savory items but will be back soon. They really have a good thing going... Keep it up Annie May!!
I love the fact that they are dedicated gluten free, but the prices are too expensive. I would love to order birthday cakes but the cost is prohibitive. Help us out Annie May. Please.
Great atmosphere and good food! I really loved the strawberry cupcakes. I will definitely be returning when I'm in town!
Delicious breakfast options. I highly enjoy the breakfast sandwiches!!
The confidence is wonderful to have, but the majority of the food is just not awesome. probably due to bring multiple allergen free (I just need GF), but have had MUCH better dedicated GF food.
Fantastic find! So excited to find a bakery & cafe where I can eat with confidence!! Food is delicious, and my family never would have guessed that it was GF 😃
Cupcakes were a delicious surprise for my wife's birthday. This was a great find! I only wish they were open later than 6 on weekdays - hard to get there after work...
Wow! One of the best gf sandwich rolls I have had to date. Lunch menu was a bit limited, but good. Prices were a bit higher than I expected. but not unreasonable. Nice selection of bakery items.
Dedicated GF facility. Several DF / Allergen free options too. Went there at 10am and to our disappointment the only breakfast options (on a Thursday) were cupcakes, cheesecake, 1 type of muffin and a cookie with lots if frosting. They seem to serve soup/salad for lunch and take orders for bread, cakes, cupcakes, pies, etc.... They told us that on Saturdays, they have donuts.
Amazing!!!!! Must visit if anywhere nearby!
Staff is very rude! When my boyfriend called and asked if he could order a gluten free and sugar free cake for my birthday, they took the order, but then made a gluten free cake with agave nector, which is still sugar. Rather than apologize for misleading him and selling him a cake I couldn't eat, they dodged my phone calls and voicemails for a week. When I finally reached someone on the phone, they were rudely defensive, refused to ammend the situation in any way, and then hung up on me. They were very mean and very unprofessional.
Great food and treats - we are so lucky to have a place that's never a gamble when eating out. I've never been treated badly here by anyone. I love stopping by on Saturday for a donut or cupcake and a weekly supply of buns.
Excellent buns, day old cupcake not good at all! Oatmeal cookies, good. Lady who owns place wasn't nice, helpful or kind. We were actually afraid to ask anymore questions. The " dedicated GF facility" is excellent! Prices were very reasonable. I wish them all the best, & hope they learn the value of a smile.
Best. Ever. Had roast beef sandwich on GF bread with delicious bean soup. Chewy Louie, brownie, and cheesecake are fabulous. Nice people, very helpful. Great for cakes, pies, and cupcakes for a party!
Yum! We had sandwiches (I had black bean and lentil soup, too) and dessert. All delicious!
Love their strawberry cupcakes!
very yummy.. sometimes a small selection but there are always great flavors of cupcakes... good buns/bread as well.
First time here, 2 pm and not much to choose from: must need to get there early: was disappointed that you have to preorder bread: will have to plan ahead: what was purchased was good but very rich : 2 cupcakes(small) and two gluten free oatmeal cream cookies was $17.65 : ouch! But quality and taste was good.
I loved this bakery. everything was wonderful.
The gf cupcakes are fabulous!!
