This place was amazing!! Gf symbol next to all menu items that were gluten free, and there were a lot!! Bun was super delicious!! Made me question if it was actually gluten free and it was! They even told me the brand!! My whole family loved everything !!

My daughter with celiac disease was given gluten hamburger bun after clarifying she has celiac disease, double checking it was gf bun and then triple checking halfway through the meal since it seemed to taste like gluten. Was reassured 3 times it was gf. My 5 year old spent the following 4 hours violently ill on our vacation. I called restaurant to let them know. Unfortunate bc we ate here based on the food safety reviews by others. Food tasted great but they absolutely dropped the ball and got my child very sick.

Took family here because of positive ratings for gluten free safety. 5 y/o daughter has celiac. Ordered her hamburger on GF bun and GF fries. Asked several times about safety and let server know about celiac (hate being those people but if you’re here you know you have to be). Thought the bun on the burger looked and tasted too good to be true GF, and asked server again and was reassured it was.
Well, an hour and a half later I have a 5 year old with classic symptoms of eating gluten, Ill and vomiting.
So, eat here at your own risk if you actually require gluten free.

FRIED CHICKEN! Omg I actually teared up when I started eating it. So delicious!! I cleaned my plate short of licking it. It was raining and they don’t have a large I for dining room so we did have to wait about 45 mins but for me it was worth it!

We had a great experience here. I am celiac, as is my daughter, they have a clearly marked menu and a dedicated frier for fries. The fries were amazing. I order an extra basket. The scenery is fantastic overlooking the bay and the service was phenomenal.
The owner is celiac as well and she teaches safe practices to her staff. They had a GF chocolate torte for dessert and it was excellent.
Highly recommend this restaurant!

I had a really amazing meal at Avenue Grille! The waitress was very knowledgeable about Celiac Disease and gluten free options. The fries have their own fryer so those were safe. I tried to get a fried fish sandwich but only the fried chicken was safe. They have gluten free buns so I got a blackened mahi sandwich with fries that was delicious. Their menu is clearly labeled for gluten free as well.

No exaggeration- this was one of the best meals I've ever had! The maple pecan fried chicken was to die for! The hummus appetizer was phenomenal too- my mom kept saying that it's her new all-time favorite hummus. We also got the shrimp ceviche which was great!

Told the waitress my fiance and I had celiac disease, she immediately made of note of it to the kitchen, didn't even have to explain what it was.
We got celiac safe french fries and fried chicken! No issues after eating here and the food was incredible.

AMAZING!! Our server was incredibly knowledgeable about celiac. They have a dedicated gluten free fryer (!!!!) so chips, fries, and even a pecan and corn encrusted fried chicken was completely safe to eat!! Would highly recommend. It was delicious!

Visited this place twice during our vacation. They understand celiac - staff knew immediately what we needed and said they even have a “celiac button” in their system. Plenty of marked GF menu options for adults and they modified items on the kids menu for our daughter, who said they had the best burger she’s ever had. Dedicated fryer for french fries too. Definitely check this place out when visiting the OBX. Super safe, great food!

First time going here and loved it! I can’t have gluten or dairy so my eating options are always very limited, but I decided to give this place a shot after seeing all the good reviews. My mom is also celiac so we are very picky about restaurants, but they seemed to be very good when it comes to allergies with menu items being marked as gluten free or vegan. Gluten free buns are available for burgers upon request, some salad options, seafood, a quinoa/rice bowl, gf french fries, fried chicken, and a couple other options. I was looking forward to the fried chicken but dairy free eaters beware: there is milk in the batter! Glad I asked before ordering! I ended up choosing the quinoa/rice bowl and adding chicken and it was delicious :) Also highly recommend the lavender lemonade!

The chance to have “fried chicken” sold it for me and the meal did not disappoint! The food and service was incredible. They are short staffed, as are most restaurants recovering from the pandemic, so be patient. The 40 minute wait allowed us to explore town and was well worth it. My son and I both decided to go for the Maple Pecan Fried Chicken. There are other gluten free options clearly marked but neither of us had fried chicken at a restaurant since Disney 2019. It was incredible and definitely a place we will come back to time and time again.

I highly recommend this restaurant, even if it’s a little out of the way for your travels. I had the catch of the day sandwich on the best gluten free bun I’ve ever had. I also tried the tuna tacos on corn shells, very good. It totally skipped my mind to try my dads fried chicken but he loved it and he isn’t even GFree. 10/10 recommend.

Knowledgeable staff that is very reassuring. They mentioned that they're specifically trained about gluten-free requirements and have a "celiac” button to alert the kitchen in their system. There is a dedicated gluten-free frier, but not a dedicated gluten-free kitchen area. I had no issues after eating here and would come again.

The maple pecan fried chicken was amazing. I’ve been craving fried chicken & this hit the spot. The chocolate torte was really good. I wish I could take this place home with me & frequent the establishment regularly!

They have a separate dedicated fryer, owner has celiac, the chef is her husband and the meals speak for themselves. I got the crap dip- awesome! & the maple pecan crusted chicken with mashed potatoes and green beans- divine!! Sweet tea was very good and they even offered a gluten free dessert, but i was stuffed. The dinner was full of flavor, and our waitress amy was super kind and helpful and assured me what was safe!

Due to COVID we did a order online and pickup order. The service was INCREDIBLY SLOW, almost to the point of wanting to cancel and just go to the grocery store and get something. However, when we finally received our food - it was fantastic. I ordered the GF pecan crusted chicken which was delightful and the best I’ve had since having to go GF. The wait issue and slow service according to a local who was waiting with me, is normal. But it was very good. Outside of Covid we’d absolutely go sit down again.

Outstanding service and the owner, Maria, stepped in when she heard me talking about my allergy to bell peppers. She was able to tell me what was safe. This was on top of the waiter's excellent knowledge of the gluten free items for my husband and mother. We felt very safe eating and had no reactions. I would definitely suggest this restaurant to anyone who is traveling and looking for an excellent meal. The catch of the day was especially tasty!
Yes
The crab and tomato soup was delicious and I LOVED my fish tacos with fries! If you’re in the area, this place is a must!
Excellent!!!! From hostess, server, and our meal!!! Staff very knowledgeable about gluten free. Amazing menu!! Crab dip is FANTASTIC!!!
Yes
Tofu is NOT gluten free. Even told them we had celiac. Corn starch our #@@.
Oh my goodness, celiac heaven. Dedicated fryer, french fries, fish tacos, dessert! The jambalaya was one of the best things I’ve ever eaten in my life. I ordered the fish tacos, my husband ordered the Jambolaya and I ate most of his! They are very careful, they switch all utensils and cooking supplies when a celiac orders. My daughter, Mom and I, who all have celiac, did not have any reaction at all. Do not miss this restaurant when visiting the Outer Banks!
Menu is specific on gf items. The staff was very knowledgeable and asked immediately if I was celiac to make sure they were cautious in the kitchen. I ordered the fish sandwich and I had the most delicious gf bun I’ve ever had! The restaurant is beautiful, awesome views.

We just ate here again, summer 2019. This is our first stop after a long drive to the outer banks! Food and drinks are yummy and a great view! My celiac daughter and husband ate here without getting sick. We were a little nervous because gf plates came out on the same tray as the gluten plates. Next time, I’ll ask them to carry on separate trays. They also said there was a risk of cc in the fryer so we got tortilla chips and fruit.
Yes
Great atmosphere and delicious food! Lots of GF options. The crab dip and the flourless chocolate mousse torte was amazing!
Yes
They do have dedicated fryers. The gluten fryer, however is next to the gluten free fryer so there is risk for CC. I didn’t get sick here, but they did warn me that CC with gf chicken and gf chips was possible since the fryers were next to each other. They had desert. However I did not see any pasta on the menu.
Yes
Very good fried chicken and cider! However, the service was lacking, and they stopped offering their GF donut holes as of last year :(
