Almost everything is GF, Even the desserts! Try the Green Dragon roll - you won’t be disappointed!
This was a deeply disappointing experience.
While most items on the menu are indeed GF, most of the special and standard rolls have egg (one of my additional allergies). We learned this after we placed an order, so we were committed to eating here at last a little. We ordered the spicy edamame: skip this. Too spicy, but somehow also bland. Staff also delivered this without an extra bowl for the discarded shells (like everywhere else does). We got the salmon flight (modified to be GF): what an insult. It was 1/4 the size I expected: four different single nigiri pieces the size of my pinky. I wanted pieces twice that size, and two each so we could share. WAY overpriced and underwhelming. We also got the basic salmon roll - similar problem, 6 small pieces. And finally we got the Big Island roll: the portions were more reasonable for this roll, and the flavor was alright. It was different, which was nice, but it would have been better with a little less lemon.
I will say the fish was quite fresh; I just wanted way more than what was offered, especially for the price. Staff was kind, and helped me eventually find *something* I could eat, but I would have liked more knowledge up front, so we could have pivoted.
This was a bust. I don't recommend eating here.
One of my favorite GF places!! The only gluten they have there is the bun on the burger - they only have tamari sauce no soy sauce used. AMAZING. Couldn’t recommend more 🍣🧡

Lovely evening at Bamboo Sushi in Portland . (I previously enjoyed Bamboo Sushi Santa Clara). Almost everything is gluten-free, and they take great care to find out about food allergies. In addition to being gluten-free, I am also dairy free. They made sure that I got was suited to me and there was no cross-contamination.
They did not have Omakase, so we had the setto chefs‘ menu instead.
We started with thin sliced Japanese cucumbers, marinated in a vinegar and sugar mixture. Then we got the sushi & sashimi set. Incredibly generous servings. To end there was a brownie with ice cream. The brownie had a little bit of butter, so I didn’t eat it. My husband loved it. I decided, “what the heck.“ I had a bite and I was in heaven!
The party next to us, also, Gluten-free, ordered some delicious maitake mushrooms, two fish collars (yellowtail tuna & amberjack— the fattier fish tasted better), steak with broccoli & 4 pieces of nigiri. It was Happy Hour so he “got greedy” & ordered two fish collars. He packed up one fish collar and most of the meat. He loved it and he comes here all the time.
(I am gluten intolerant, and can usually tell if I’ve had gluten because of mouth sores afterward. I didn’t get get any. But I wouldn’t vouch for someone who is Celiac.)
Happy hour until 6 PM. Extremely cute neighborhood, well worth a long walk around and popping into lots of adorable stores. Highly recommended.
I absolutely loved this place. Well-informed and welcoming staff which was great - but the FOOD! The shrimp tempura and the albacore sashimi were highlights but everything was amazing. Last time I had tempura was pre-diagnosis and I was so happy I wanted to hug my server. Highly recommend!
This place was really good. Wouldn’t rate as excellent though. Ordered the spicy salmon crispy rice, Friday the 13th, full circle and nw philly rolls. The full circle was the best!! The rest were good except the spicy salmon crispy rice, neither of us enjoyed that much. I would definitely eat here again but probably not go all out next time
All GF and very tasty. The place is spendy. Rolls are a bit expensive for the size and the sashimi platters are not worth the cost IMO. That said, everything we had was delicious and it’s worth the extra cost for truly GF sushi. Only thing with gluten is a hamburger bun…literally. The location is lovely and I will keep going back.
I am full Celiac and I was AMAZED by how much I could eat here! I even had tempura (which is usually a no-no but they use rice and almond flour) and I made sure to tell my waitress I was allergic to gluten. They were so accommodating. Their entire menu is gluten free except maybe 1 or 2 things. This was hands down the BEST sushi experience I’ve ever had as a Celiac. 10/10 recommend.
Had a bunch of sushi rolls and tempura at a party that were made from Bamboo Sushi. I was pretty skeptical but called the restaurant to confirm that what we had was GF. I wish I ate more. It was all so good, but I didn’t know if I could trust it. Felt totally fine afterwards and now am really looking forward to stopping in for dinner sometime soon!
Wide range of choices for those with celiac. Fresh, delicious and expertly prepared. Any location in Portland metro will not disappoint.
Many items on menu are just gluten free, no longer need to be modified to be gluten free (changed 2-3 months ago) Gluten free tamari on tables, use gluten free tempura, etc. Gluten free fryer. Sustainable, no MSG, no GMOs. Super yummy. I especially love the hoke poke box!
Wonderful salmon sushi and yuzu black cod (on the sweet side). Like many recent reviewers said, there are only 3 items with gluten in the facility. The tables are stocked with tamari, they said they have a dedicated fryer and they were patient and explained their practices to avoid cross contamination, eg new gloves, separate spaces, marked my order as wheat allergy. In addition, they accommodated my low fodmap requirements. Overall tasy and solid. Most importantly, I am very sensitive to gluten, and didnt get sick 3 hours later. I'd come again and try the steak and the crispy rice.
Delicious sushi restaurant that is totally gluten free. I love being able to get all the specialty rolls and tempura. And their entrees are super good- chicken, mackerel, and black cod are all ones we’ve tried. The trek to the highlands location was a little inconvenient for us— we absolutely love having one in congress park! The Green Machine is a veggie roll but our all time favorite.
The best sushi and almost entirely gluten free! If you are celiac and love tempura and karage this is the place for you. One of the managers, Ty, is also a huge highlight of this restaurant. He is so nice and as we’ve become regulars puts in our order as soon we arrive - you don’t get this level of service at any other restaurant!
