Updated after going a 2nd. This waitstaff was very knowledgeable about gluten free. Tons of GF options. And the other reviews are correct, the corn chips are fried in their own frier and are safe!
Amazing tacos and margs, and the menu is almost entirely gluten free. Only the flour tortillas are gluten, and those aren't fried meaning WE CAN EAT THE CHIPS!!!
I've had great experiences at Barrio with no reaction and I'm extremely sensitive diagnosed celiac. Make sure you talk to your server, as always, but overall a gluten free gem in the Lansing area.
UPDATE: I have been a ton of times for dinner and not had an issue, but I went recently for brunch and ended up being sick from likely cross contact even though the waiter and kitchen staff assured me it was fine. It seemed like the kitchen was having some issues that day and I hadn’t had the brunch menu before, so I will likely still return for dinners, but I was disappointed when this happened!
Enjoyed a delicious meal! So much of the menu, including the chips, is gluten free, and they knew about Celiac and marked it carefully. All the food was delicious, and I will definitely return!
I have been here twice and both experiences were great! Gluten free items are clearly marked on the menu. It is recommended to tell your server about celiacs/gluten allergy so they can alert the kitchen, and write it next to your name on your order sheet. The guac is the best I’ve had and the salsa is great as well. Chips are all gluten free! They have hard or soft corn tortilla options as well as a burrito bowl option. Every time I pass through Lansing I make sure to stop by this place!
Everything was so good and so safe! I made my own tacos and things was clearly labeled as gluten free (also showed if vegetarian or vegan). I wrote on my sheet that I had celiac and needed no cross contamination, and when the server came back I told her and she was knowledgeable about it and made sure it was safe. Also, the chips and salsa they gave out were automatically gluten free too!
Our server, Brianna, was so helpful! She helped us navigate the menu and explained the precautions the kitchen takes to prevent cross contact. Chips are fried in their own fryer. Definitely recommend the chips and salsa and guacamole. Perfecto margarita lived up to its name. Will be back!
I have celiac and I also am a server here! This place is completely amazing with all of the gluten free options that we have! The kitchen is also very safe and the workers change their gloves with handling any orders with allergens. Highly recommend!!
My sister and I live right above Barrio and she has Celiac. Amazing gluten-free selections, I was amazed it wasn’t on this app when I downloaded it and I just had to add it because my sister and I go there all the time. Very reasonably priced, great food, free GF chips and salsa. Can’t go wrong with Barrio.
I’ve eaten here 4-5 times. I’ve generally had a good experience, though there are inconsistencies about what is gf on the menus. And some things are marked gf that have potential cross contamination issues, such as one of the quesos. However, the last time I ate there, they brought out half my tacos in a flour tortilla. I had told the server about needing gluten free and even wrote it boldly on top of the taco order form. I informed the manager, and she apologized but didn’t seem very concerned. My advice is to check all your tacos before you start eating them and make sure to verify they know it is gluten free while ordering and when it arrives. You may also want to ask specifically that the person making the tacos changes their gloves.
