The staff have no clue. If you have celiac, don’t go. No separate utensils; just some products that don’t contain gluten. I’d go to the Kroger up the street and get a pint before getting anything here.
I visited Ben & Jerry’s twice while in Gatlinburg. You can look up the GF menu online. When I got to the counter, I told them I was Celiac (severe gluten allergy), what flavor I wanted, and that I would like a clean scoop used on my ice cream. Both times, they went to the back to scoop ice cream out of a new box, too. Each time, they checked to make sure I had the GF ice cream list on my phone, too, or they would have found the list for me. Obviously, the cones here are not GF, but the ice cream is fantastic! I did not get sick here either time. Loved it!
Ok, since I had the gluten allergy I haven’t had a milk shake for so long or even just ice cream. One day I went to Ben and Jerry’s they have a dedicated blender for allergy’s a dedicated ice cream scooper and when they scoop the ice cream they use a new box of that ice cream. This is the best milk shake place ever even if you don’t have an allergy.
List of gluten free flavors. Staff has all been knowledgeable of the protocol for celiac/gluten allergy. They open a new container in the back and use a new spoon to scoop. Never had a reaction.
There is an allergen option for GF or DF on the tour. Tour was sampling s’mores ice cream, allergen friendly option was lemonade sherbet. If you want more than the sample, don’t order from the ice cream counter. GFree staff told me they can’t guarantee no cc in the kitchen. But never fear! There are pints for sale in the gift shop, you get a ton more ice cream (sans contamination) for like $1 more than a waffle cone. I was pleasantly surprised that I even had options!! Repeat: the cone counter is not dedicated kitchen space, opt for a fresh pint instead.
Gluten free menu given to me and manager very knowledgeable about which flavours were safe for a Celiac (she corrected an error shown on their website that said one flavour was gluten free, when it actually wasn't). The server was very careful to wash the milkshake blender thoroughly before making a shake for my son.
8/29/16. They had no problem scooping from a new carton of ice cream from the back using a clean scooper. Very accommodating. I've been back twice since and they were NOT accommodating at all!!! I would give them no stars if I could.
I stopped in here on a whim while shopping at Broadway at the Beach. I asked what flavors were gluten free and they brought out a book which listed what I could eat. Surprisingly it was a good handful of flavors! The staff washed the ice cream scoops before scooping, washed the mixer before making my milkshake and I was very impressed! Now they just need gluten free ice cream cones which I am really surprised they didn't carry!
