Best Ugly Bagels

I always make sure to pop through Best Ugly Bagels when I’m at the airport, whether that be international or domestic.

Today I watched the process of making my bagel and was very happy. The staff member changed gloves each time before handling my bagel. It was toasted in a separate toaster, and fresh unused toppings were used to avoid cross contamination.

Great Montreal style bagels (my preference) with your choice of toppings. Gluten free one has Sesame Seeds and is now officially called Guilt Free because it is made in a facility along with wheat. The staff often still unofficially refer to it as Gluten Free. It tasted great toasted with local cream cheese and smoked salmon. Lovely breakfast pre departure. I had no issues on a 13 hour flight. NZ seems to have very strict labelling laws for what qualifies as ‘Gluten Free’ but there are many choices labelled ‘no gluten added’ or known by knowledgeable staff to be made free of gluten if you ask.

Asked for a gf bagel and they confirmed they had a gf toaster. They said it would take a little longer since it is gf; they toasted it and basically ignored it for 5+ minutes. Got served a cold bagel which did seem safe at least.

Ate at the location in the domestic terminal. Very aware of celiac and all the possible cross contamination but they were very careful and used a separate toaster!

The location I went to is in the international terminal. I got a gluten free “White Rabbit”, with cream cheese, tomato, basil, and lemon fennel oil. It was fantastic. The best GF bagel I’ve ever had, and a very tasty sandwich. They asked if I was celiac or intolerant.
