We ordered late night delivery to our hotel as this was one of the few businesses that offered gluten free options and was open after a long day of touring the city. I am normally apprehensive about ordering online due to my celiac disease, especially in an unfamiliar city, but these fears were unwarranted. I ordered pad thai and pho from the gluten free menu and made a note on the order in DoorDash that read "Gluten Free - Celiac Disease". The order arrived with bright pink allergy warning labels. I felt very safe eating and did not have a reaction. A note on tipping when ordering online through DoorDash: If you want your tip to go to the deliver rather than have the company use your tip to offset its own costs, tip in cash. Your driver will thank you! (See: https://qz.com/1659475/the-merits-of-tipping-your-doordash-delivery-worker-in-cash/ )
This was single he the best dining experience my daughter has had since being gluten-free. Going out to eat can be dreadful for someone with celiac. The owner noticed her writing down all of the things she would like to have in her meal rather than putting them in the bowl from the stirfry station. He personally made sure that her meal was prepared safely. We did an Nima test and it was free of gluten. He even waited while we ran the test to make sure it was safe. The food was absolutely delicious. I had the gluten-free curry it was the best I’ve had! He even followed up with a delicious gluten-free flourless chocolate cake with caramel icing. He made her feel special and it was fabulous to enjoy a safe and delicious meal out!
The have a designated GF menu which was such a relief. I had th me chicken pho for 1 which was good, but not prepared as traditionally as I had hoped. It was very sweet. I also had the GF summer rolls which were ok, and the chicken satay which was inedible. Overall, meh. Won’t be back. Felt nauseous afterwards for several hours - not sure if it is celiac friend.
Separate GF menu (has a lot of options) and the waiter was very helpful about how the food is prepared. We ate cashew chicken a couple days ago without any problems, food tastes really good and the restaurant has a nice atmosphere. Highly recommended!
Knowledgeable staff informed us that gf food is prepared in own area with separate cookware. Large gf menu includes appetizers, soup, main dishes, and one dessert. GF soy sauce provided. Excellent food. I didn't have a reaction and I am very sensitive. Highly recommended. We went to 60 E Ohio st location.
Could be a four or five stars. They had a GF menu available and asked if it was allergy or otherwise for prep. If you inform them of allergy, they prep it GF for the allergy and it's marked that way (we had take out). My wife (the GF-er) thought her grub was pretty good.
Their gluten free menu has many of the options if the regular with slight modifications. The pad Thai, orange chicken and mochi are to die for! I love this place and never have problems there. The servers are attentive and a manager typically brings out my meal to ensure it was prepared properly
They had a decent selection for gluten free. A few entrees, noodle dishes, appetizers and desserts. We chose to do the make your own stir fry and they were quite accommodating! On top of that it was delicious. Good when you are feeling like having American-Chinese or Thai.
Very yummy gluten free options, I had the chicken Pad Thai, egg drop soup, and vegetable summer rolls one day, then went back the next to try the Mongolian beef. Staff is friendly and helpful. Prices are decent, especially if you go for a midweek lunch and order from the lunch menu. Highly recommended
Phenomenal!! Had the Laotian sweet potato soup and shrimp pad Thai. Boy, how I have missed it! Delicious food, great service and very comforting to know it was "safe" for me to eat. Every time an item was brought to me the server said "This is 100% gluten free" which is reassuring. The manager came to check on us, offered to bring tamari instead of soy sauce. And homemade ginger ale?! Great meal!!
Came here for half priced appetizers and everything was amazing! Great portion sizes and even greater prices. Had the summer vegetable roll, chicken satay, and lettuce wraps. The gluten free menu is huge. Great place to satisfy your asian food craving. Will be back soon!
Delicious food and great atmosphere. Huge separate gluten free menu, large portion sizes. I’ve eaten here many times and never had any issues. Some of my favorites are their GF spring rolls, edamame, and the build-your-own pad Thai with ginger garlic sauce. The gluten free brownie is a MUST have— absolutely delicious! I’d recommend getting a reservation on evenings and weekends because they do get busy.
Love Big Bowl! I have been eating there about once a month since 2015, and the food is always consistent. Knowledgeable staff (waiters, managers, chefs) about celiac, and they take precautions against cross contamination. Highly recommend if you have never been to Big Bowl before.
Got sick. Also - server tried to give me my colleague’s non gf meal. If they had protocols they were not following them. Really tired of restaurants telling me how great they are at serving Celiacs and then dropping the ball.
Awesome! They use a carbon copied slip and special plate to follow the gluten free order. Manager brings it out special. All of the staff was very knowledgeable.
I LOVE Big Bowl. They are fantastic with allergies. I have Celiac and a dairy allergy and they have a clear protocol. Food is prepped in a GF pan, pink slip is filled out and a manager runs the food out separately to the table. All allergy/GF meals come on a red rimmed plate so that the kitchen and you know it’s an allergy/GF meal. I’ve eaten here so many times and have never gotten sick. The veggie spring rolls are a must! Also, the chicken lettuce wraps are AMAZING! You need to try this place if you like asian cuisine.
Amazingly good with a gluten-free meal. They have an extensive gluten-free menu and track the meal, prepare it separate from other foods, and the manager brings it out on a red-rimmed plate. The orange chicken was fantastic!
The reviews here, the gluten-free menu, and my knowledgeable waitress made me feel like I was safe to eat here. I got a stir fry which was only average and I felt sick as soon as I left the place. It might still be safe to eat here but steer clear of the stir fry, they must fry it all in the same place and not clean it well enough to be celiac safe.
This is one of our go-to restaurants. We go here all the time (and the other Lettuce Entertain You restaurants). They have seem to have amazing procedures to prepare food for allergies and prevent cross-contamination. And on top of that, it’s really good food!
Eaten here many times and haven’t gotten sick; the selection isn’t as wide as the normal menu, but when is it ever?
I come here all the time, it’s one of the only places I feel safe eating out at. Lots of gluten free options and the manager oversees all gluten free orders and brings out GF dishes instead of the waiters. They even use separate plates with red rims to identify gluten free dishes. Food is delicious!
The server was very knowledgeable on cross contamination and kitchen practices. They have a separate kitchen space to prepare the meal and use special allergy plates. The manager brings out all allergy meals. The food is good, not great, but it was a safe meal so I’d go back.
I tried some samples at a gluten-free expo and they were delicious. But the listing should not say that “delivery“ is offered. I called from the nearby Hilton Dulles and learned that the only delivery option is for catering, that is if your order is $250 or more. Please correct this in the listing.
I've eaten here a few times and never had a problem until this last time. They must not have been careful this time because the next day I was sick.
We just ate out together as a family for the first time since our 14 was diagnosed with Celiac's disease. We were so nervous but decided to try it out due to the reviews on here. We told the staff and they had two managers come out and talk to us to make sure they understood the severity. We had just come back from the Mayo Clinic and had the go a head to eat normal gluten free diet with absolutely no cross contamination . Not only did we have an amazing experience but we saw the manager wipe down the counter and her hands as she served our daughter her plate. AND then gave us a gluten free lava cake on the house! WE WERE ALL IN TEARS! This place cares deeply for their business and their customers! Amazing!
They changed their menu and the lettuce wraps don't taste as good- very bland and they no longer have gfree sweet and sour- only orange sauce which is a little too gingery for my liking. Still come here though as it is one of the few places to get Asian food gfree.
I was so excited to try this place because of its large selection of gf entrees. I ordered some sort of chicken dish. It tasted great. HOWEVER, I got terribly ill afterwards and was in immense pain all night! The waiter came across as not understanding the importance of no cross contamination action, even though I very clearly explained it to him. I was so disappointed! Never want to experience that type of intense pain. Thumbs down for this joint.
Large Gluten Free menu with many Chinese and Thai entrees that are normally hard to get as GF. I had Pad Thai with shrimp which was perfectly seasoned and cooked. GF soy and chili sauces at table that you can add yourself. This is a Lettuce Entertain You restaurant and they take great care ensuring safe GF preparation. Top quality food with safe GF practices makes this a great dining destination.
I was pretty impressed with Big bowl. I have several food allergies and they were great about working around all of them. They have an entire gluten free menu which makes ordering a breeze. They wait staff is well informed about the ingredients which was a breath of fresh air. I had the orange chicken and fried rice-which was delicious! They also have GF soy sauce.
Went there for the first time yesterday-- and WAS SERVED A NON GLUTEN FREE MEAL (yes, by mistake-- but I was 6 bites in before they realized their mistake). Upon ordering we had told the server (nicely) that four of the five of us were gluten free and that our entire order was off of the GF menu. When our main course came, we dug right in-- only to learn after a few minutes that the server brought us someone else's order and that we all had inadvertently consumed a relatively large amount of gluten-- NOT OKAY. While I understand and appreciate that they made a mistake (and thankfully caught it relatively quickly-- as well as comp'd my meal)-- that doesn't help alleviate the massive amount of pain my daughter and I are in, even now, nearly 24 hours later. Long story short, don't go there if you're GF for health/medical reasons-- or, at least, double and triple check your meal before consuming. Lesson learned, I'll stick to the 3-4 places that we already frequent that take gluten free seriously. DO NOT RECOMMEND.
Separate GF menu had lots to choose from here, from appetizers through dessert. Tried the Mongolian Beef and it was delish! Try the Mochi too! My husband (non celiac) said his food was very good too. We'll be back to Ridgedale again.
Gf menu available and I used to get take out a lot but was always getting glutened. I finally ate in the restaurant once and saw how they cook through the open kitchen and it all made sense. Small space with all the dishes cooked right next to each other. Shared utensils, lots of flipping food all around. Cc all over the place. :(
I was very happy to have checked out Big Bowl for a quick dinner while running errands. The server was very knowledgeable on GF/celiac, and when I started to talk about cross-contamination she said that they treat all GF orders as allergies. So I felt that they were on the ball and very capable. My chicken pad thai was excellent, and the server even brought out a bottle of GF soy sauce for me. Boyfriend also had the same but not GF. He tasted mine and said they were different, but obviously I couldn't compare. To me, it tasted just like what I remember to be standard pad thai.
Staff was very kind and efficient. Food was kind of heavy, but good. Didn't have a huge, prepared to be gluten free menu but they can adjust almost anything to be made flute free
Rice noodle option
used to be one of my favorite restaurants. food has declined badly. Last visit the GF Kung Pow was awful. Waitress did not understand when I asked if the recipe had been changed and kept repeating that it Was GF. Never saw a manager to ask. they've lost our business.
