Had the gluten free crust the two time I've been there. the crust needs to be cooked a minute or two longer, but other than that it's great!

The gluten free crust is good. I suggest you remind to use sauce near veggie bins as some aren't quite trained. And remind oven attendant that gfree crust takes a bit longer to cook. I have eaten here several times and haven't gotten sick but I also watch them every step of the way and have them remake if the aren't careful.

I told the first staff member in line about my Celiacs and they marked my paper as gf and glove change. When the next person in line received my paper, he put a regular crust on it and didn’t change his gloves. I had to ask them to start fresh with a new liner because of the contamination. The manager took over and got me fresh toppings, but had I not questioned and double checked, I would’ve been eating a gluten pizza. The staff, other than the manager, was completely uneducated about gluten free protocols. The oven man also put my pizza on the wrong liner, but luckily the wrong liner was gluten free too.

We went there once. I’m giving it 2 stars because they are close to being safe, but they’re not. When we went they had just opened, so maybe they’ve changed. It seemed like hey kept everything safe from cross contamination EXCEPT the ladle they use to put the sauce on the pizza and the pizza sauce was not dedicated. So they were taking a ladle- using it to spread sauce all over a regular pizza and then dipping it back in the big sauce bucket completely contaminating it. We saw that but my wife still decided to try it since the staff was insisting they were safe with gluten free pizzas. Well my wife got super sick and we never went back.

This is the best GF pizza I have ever had! Some of the staff is more knowledgeable than others (managers vs. high school kids). They have 2 different presses for the dough/crust. Just make sure you watch and ask questions and be specific. I have not gotten sick eating there, but have had to ask for separate sauce, spoons, etc. they get 5 stars because it tastes AMAZING!

If you order the gluten free crust, they put it on a plate so it doesn’t touch the other pizzas in the oven. You have to ask for the gf red sauce so they’ll use a separate ladle and you won’t get cross-contamination. You can get any toppings you want, and the crust tastes very similar to the regular crust. It’s a good option, but since they don’t have a dedicated kitchen there’s a chance for cross-contamination.

REVISED REVIEW: Blaze has totally changed their approach to GF. They make GF crust from- separate from the regular. They have a dedicated press, and dedicated GF sauce, and cutters. I recommend visiting when they are not super busy- they will take the time to go slowly and be careful of x-contam. It's not perfect- there is flour present, but for a non-dedicated facility, they do a very good job. Food is fresh and good/very good (very good for a chain).

The employees changed their gloves and also put parchment paper I believe under my crust while adding toppings so the flour would not come in contact if left on the counter. My only complaint is that it took about 3x longer to cook than the regular crust.

So I watched them make my Celiac daughter’s pizza from start to finish and I had to have them remake it after they went to cut it on a shared surface with a dirty (glutened) pizza cutter. I’m unlikely to come back her with her. She liked the pizza, but unfortunately she is one of those with Celiac disease that has alopecia secondary to gluten exposure so we won’t really know for a bit if she was glutenized.

Blaze handles GF fantastically, they have a separate dough presser, will change their gloves, have mats for the GF pizza in the oven, and have a separate pizza slicer. When you order, make sure to specify it’s an “allergy.” Remember to ask them for the GF red sauce instead of the regular (it’s easy to miss cause the GF one is at the end of the line). Be aware that the GF pizza will be a little hard and cracker-like after it comes out of the oven, but it is not anything terrible (I would just ask for extra sauce when ordering and get olive oil on it at the end). Friendly staff and delicious pizza :))

I’ll start first with that fact that their gf pizza is absolutely the best I’ve had. The crust is made fresh daily and formed on a gluten free press as you order. They have separate sauce for the gf area and offer to do glove changes. That only area of possible cross contamination is the shared fired pizza oven. I have celiac and haven’t had any problems. I didn’t realize just how much I missed good pizza!

They change gloves, offer new sauce, and have color coded utensils to ensure new cross contamination. They also cook the pizza on a special mat to ensure it doesn’t get contaminated while baking. I’ve eaten here a handful of times and have never gotten ill. They also have goat cheese! It’s fantastic to have a quality pizza place!

Blaze Pizza in Des Moines has changed their practices, and now can accommodate gluten-free dietary needs. The dough is kept on a red mat throughout the process. Their is a dedicated gluten-free marinara sauce and pizza cutter. All of the meats and cheeses are gluten free except for the meatballs. There is also a dedicated gluten-free pizza cutter. Can’t beat $11 for unlimited toppings. Their lemonade is also fantastic. I love Blaze!!

I normally give only positive reviews, and I had high hopes for my visit. This location does offer a gluten free pizza crust but their setup does not allow for safe preparation. The Subway-style assembly line means everything is cross contaminated, the staff is severely undertrained in the area of food allergies, and the way they stack the unbaked pizzas (on top of each other) means wheat flour can (and does) fall on top of gluten free crusts. I admit, I should have gone with my gut when I finally made it to the front of the line, but I was very hungry and it clouded my thinking. I was “glutened” —that is to say, I was sick after eating here. This would be a fine place for non-Celiacs and/or non-food allergic individuals, but if you live with either (for your own safety), stay away.

Had to ask for a different person to open all the doors to this area so the person handling toppings didn’t get my pizza cc. They use a mat under gf pizza in oven. I also requested clean pizza cutter and watched at the cutting bar. They do make a good pizza.

They use the same sauce/spoon for the gluten free pizza as they do For the wheat crust. When my husband and i went they put his sauce on his pizza spread it around with the spoon on the crust. Then did the same thing to mine with while using the same sauce and spoon. I asked for a gluten free crust and then ended up getting grabbing a crust from from the same area where my husbands crust was. I asked about it being gluten free and she had to go back to another area to grab the gluten free crust. The gluten free crust is no sealed and really separate from the flour crusts. They are in the same open area. Also the pizzas go in the same fire brick oven and your pizza is right next to a flour pizza. They also do not change pizza cutters (at least when I was there they didn't) and cut the gluten free pizza with the same cutter and the flour pizza. None of them did glove changes
