Had lunch here to try it out. Very impressed with all the GF options. Server was knowledgeable. Food was delicious. I did not get sick. It's a hit with me!
Our first time here. I have celiac and I was so excited to try it out from the reviews. I got the crab cakes and Sangria mimosa, so good. My husband got a burger from the regular menu and said it was the best burger he ever had. We will definitely be back. Our waiter was very knowledgeable about gluten sensitivity. The manager even brings out the gluten free order to your table. It is a more pricey restaurant but so worth it to be gluten free. Definitely a date night atmosphere.....
I love the gluten free crab cakes! They are the best that I've tried. The restaurant takes great care of those with a gluten allergy and dairy intolerance. One of my new favorite restaurants.
Wow, what a great GF meal I had at Burtons Grill. I had surf & Turf (steak & crab cakes) it was the best GF meal I have had at a restaurant since I found out I have celiac. I didn't worry about getting sick with all the precautions they take. Also a good place for those without GF issues. I will be going back often. A big thank you to the manager Krisztian & his staff for making us feel so welcome!
I am paleo because of gluten and dairy allergies. This place was really amazing. The food was great and the service. The manager came out and reassured me that my food was handle without cross contamination. I had no reaction and thoroughly enjoyed the separate gluten free menu. I will definitely be coming back again!!!
Best GF dining experience I've had in Charlotte! My new favorite restaurant!
This restaurant has lots of gluten free options. They have a dedicated frier for gluten free items. The manager brings the gluten free food out separately. I ordered the Memphis dry rub wings as an appetizer (my first time eating gf wings out!) and street tacos as my meal. Both were delicious! As a celiac I was a bit worried when the manager called the gluten free food "gluten sensitive," (I get sick very easily) but nonetheless I did not have any problems eating here. Very knowledgeable and friendly staff. I would definitely go back here!
Mediterranean Chicken risotto is incredible. Everyone is knowledgeable and had a large GF menu
I've never had so many options to choose from!!! Owner has celiac and the manager brings out your food
This is such a great menu for all worried about allergens. Gluten free menu is looks and sounds fantastic and tastes just as good.
AMAZING. VERY good with multiple dietary restrictions. I was able to get risotto and a very salad that were gluten and dairy free- both were to die for.
Extensive GF menu. Dedicated fryer. Crab cakes, fries, calamari- all great. The best place we've found for mixed families (some with allergies or intolerances, some have none). Outside felt casual. Inside is where we'd go if we didn't have kids with us. Great service. Felt safe.
Can't say enough good things! Labeling and staff knowledge were impressive. Lots of variety! I had a chicken risotto which was delicious and I had their gluten free dessert trio which I would highly recommend! Even my family, who do not have dietary restrictions, loved their food.
It's so nice finding a restaurant that offers more than just GF burgers or pizza! I had the crab cakes (yes! Crab cakes!) and chose a cocktail from their GF-labeled drinks menu. They label everything as "Gluten Sensitive," but I do feel this place is celiac friendly. They're GIG-certified, maintain separate fryers, & the staff is very knowledgeable. Even the host asked us "would anyone like a GF menu tonight?" As a bonus, they offer paleo & vegetarian menu choices.
Buttons is really good. Lots of choices. Love the burgers, gluten free bun and fries in dedicated fryer. Also serve gf bread at beginning of dinner so you can feel like part of group.
Amazing! So celiac friendly. They cater to allergies! I had fried cauliflower and a chicken sandwich with onion straws and fries. So great!
Excellent service and food, gluten-free menu with steaks, burgers/buns, fries, and onion straws, plus much more.
I had previously reviewed this location and given it five stars based on multiple visits all with great food and service as well as super safe for celiacs. Unfortunately my last visit was a totally different experience. When we ordered appetizers the server told me that I could eat the spring rolls even though they would not be on a square plate because almost everything the restaurant makes is naturally gluten free. I told the server that the spring rolls are not gluten free. Luckily I knew that but another patron might not have known. The three of us ordered the haddock with the crab topping. Mine was ordered gluten free and served to me on a square plate by the server. All the meals looked the same although the other two were not gluten free and the topping was not gluten free. I do not know if the wrong fish may have been put on my plate or if mine was just not made gluten free. I also had calamari and pumpkin brûlée both of which I was told are gluten free no matter who orders it. Based on how sick I got I don't believe it was a case of cross contamination. I feel like I was served gluten. I did talk to a couple Managers last week but they were not able to determine what happened. I know we always take a chance when we go out to eat but I had always considered this place to be my safe place. It was my favorite restaurant and we would drive an hour so I could eat here. I have not eaten out since and right now I am reluctant to do so. This is a restaurant that I know does take allergies seriously but they definitely had an off night the night I visited.
Shortly after you walk in the front door, they introduce themselves as specializing in food allergies, and support that statement throughout the meal. Fabulous selections cocktails, appetizers, entrees, and desserts. DEDICATED FRYOLATOR FOR FRENCH FRIES! We have eaten there several times with no issues. Recommend it highly.
GF menu and all allergy meals brought out by the kitchen manager. They come out and talk to you and cook it on different areas in the kitchen. The plates are diff sized so you know there is no mix up in any way. They made custom dishes of stuff that wasn't on the menu. COMPLETELY SAFE.
What a great place. Just opened but they seem to have their act together. We had the maple chicken sandwich on an Udi’s bun & shared the chicken risotto. My step-son ordered steak off the kids menu which they made sure was gluten free. Very happy with the service & nice ambiance. 👏👏👏👏👏
Burton's Grill really knows how to do gluten free safe for celiacs. I've eaten at another location multiple times never having a problem. The food and service at the Shrewsbury location were excellent. They lost a star because they have chosen to not offer complementary bread with herb butter at new locations. Although I was so excited that there was going to be a location closer to my home, the lack of their delicious bread will keep me from returning.
This is apparently our second time going to this restaurant. We actually didn't remember going there the first time, until we saw a previous review we had left on a different website - both of these occasions were while traveling. To put it simply, they don't disappoint. I have Celiac and thus must eat gluten free - not because it's the "cool" thing to do, but because I'll get sick otherwise. First, the restaurant is VERY accommodating. They have LOTS of options for appetizers, entrees, and desserts. One of the best out there. Additionally, our server tonight was Eric (Erik?). He was Very good. He was extremely knowledgeable of the menu and Celiac/gluten free dining needs. He was able to explain and suggest dinner options like he wrote the menu himself. He even suggested I try a combination of risotto and sauce that I would not have tried otherwise, but at his suggestion, it was delicious!! Kudos to Eric. Kudos to Burtons. If in the area again, we will certainly return!
Update: We ate here again tonight and our service was even better than last time! Our server, Eric, was excellent and very knowledgeable about gf. He explained the processes at Burton’s for ensuring gf every time and was so accommodating to us. We felt very safe eating here and our food was wonderful. We shared the steak kabobs (menu special) and the California chicken sandwich. We also tried the torte again and had the ‘trio’ which consisted of chocolate cake, mascarpone cheesecake with blueberry compote, and a berry cheesecake. Each came in a little single-serve jar. The experience was excellent and definitely safe for celiac!! Original review: Boyfriend had swordfish risotto and I had a steak sandwich. Meal was good but the dessert is where it's at!! We had the chocolate torte with raspberry sauce and ice cream and also the pecan praline tart (?) which was warmed and deliciously smothered in caramel, served with ice cream. We would go back for the dessert alone!
We've eaten at other Burton's locations before and we're so happy to have one relatively nearby. The Shrewsbury Burton's is as safe and delicious as their other locations. The hostess asks if you need a gluten free menu and the server asks if anyone at the table has any allergies or dietary restrictions. The manager brings out the GF food and it's served on square plates. When the manager brought our food he said, "No cross contact." 😁 I feel as safe as I can eating out when I eat at Burton's. Burton's is a scratch kitchen, so the food is especially tasty. The rosemary parmesan fries are delicious! Very much celiac safe!
I had forgotten about this place when we got here. After a 20 min search online under hangry conditions, I finally came across Burtons again. I was SO RELIEVED! They really are a rare treat. The manager prepared my meals and brought them to me. They take every precaution to keep you safe and fed well. I can't say enough good about their food and service!
Separate GF menu offering paleo and vegan options! Super accommodating with allergies and are sure to avoid any cross contamination by having designated plates to signify allergy as well as the manager bringing the food out and reiterating the allergy. 4 stars bc alcoholic drinks are hit or miss. Sometimes outstanding and then just flat out poorly made😱 but food is a definite go! Tacos, Fries, Fried calamari, Beet and goat cheese salad are my go toos😋
Staff asks right away if there are food allergies. You get a special plate and manager brings food with gloves.
If you have an allergy of any sort I highly recommend them! Several Gluten Free options From your normal salad options to crab cakes!!! Very allergen conscious from wait staff to kitchen, kitchen is open so you can hear them discuss their allergy protocols. Very impressed!
Best service since diagnosis of celiac. Asked about allergies from the host to the server and beyond. Had my first gluten free crab cake that wasn't like eating sandy crab. Highly recommend.
I am. SO HAPPY RIGHT NOW. I knew Burton's had a gluten free menu.. but they have THE MOST DELICIOUS savory bread. I actually cried at the bar. I'm so happy right now!!!!!!!!!! I got the GF stuffed zucchini and buffalo chicken dip!! Amazing!! Highly recommend for any of my GF friends!
Staff were very knowledgeable. Gluten free menu was extensive and delicious!
There are two menus. Gluten sensitive and the regular menu. My boyfriend ordered the cauliflower bites for an appetizer. When they arrived the waitress put it down and left before i could make sure they were GF so i waited until she came back to ask. She looked shocked when I asked and said they weren't gluten free. I thought since they were on the regular menu and GS menu they would be safe but I guess you have to be specific. Just make sure you say gluten free in front of everything you order and they're great. Food is delicious too. HIGHLY recommend. Just make sure you're specific. Update: I went again, the waiter i had told me that they had specific plates. Square plates and bowls are GF and round are non GF. Good to know!!!!:)
I am so glad we stopped here. I read the reviews and was not disappointed. I am GF and DF. The owner is celiac. They have a GF menu and I was told if there was a sandwich on the regular menu, they would make it GF. Lots of choices. Very knowledgeable and staff. I highly recommend this place.
Hands down the best gluten free dining experience I have ever had! When we arrived the hostess asked immediately if we needed any allergy menus. Since it was our first time our waiter explained 95% of the menu is naturally gluten free, the fryer is soy based and it is a scratch kitchen so they can easily modify menu items to accommodate. I had fried calamari, yummy gf bread, shrimp and lobster pasta and a trio of desserts (chocolate lava, apple crisp and cheesecake). The dessert was so good I cried. All of my food was brought separately by my waiter or the manager. Not only they make me feel safe but I felt welcomed. It was one of the only time that I did not feel like a second class citizen. Can't wait to go back to the one near home!
We were told that one of the founders of this restaurant has Celiac Disease, which explains a lot about their our great experience. There are only 3 or 4 items on the large menu that can not be made gluten free. They have a separate fryer and take great care to avoid cross contamination in the rest of the kitchen as well. Gluten free food was even delivered by a different server. The food was fantastic. The Buffalo Chicken dip is amazing. We ordered a second. My daughter was able to eat gluten free fried calamari for the first time. She also had a half order of risotto- which was the size of a full serving compared to other restaurants. She was served gluten free rolls for the bread service- a first for us. She also loved the gluten free chocolate torte for desert. She was so happy! She had more food choices here than at any restaurant she has been to since she was diagnosed with Celiac. We are in the area on vacation and we're so impressed by the restaurant, and lengthy list of options, that we plan to go back today before we leave town! I just don't think you can go wrong with this choice!
Amazing dinner. Clearly marked menu. The meal comes on square plates so that you know it is gluten free. You will enjoy your experience.
We were extremely impressed with the precautions taken at Burtons Grill to ensure our daughter received a completely Celiac friendly, gluten-free meal. The waiters are very well informed and knowledgeable about celiac disease, and the manager herself brought our daughter's dish to the table separately and then explained that all gluten-free dishes are served on square plates as an added precaution. Food was tasty, too!
I went there Saturday night after making a reservation online. We were asked if anyone needed a gf sensitive menu. I can't have gluten or dairy so I asked about choices. Our waitress said they could do pretty much anything gf df because it's made to order. For the first time in years I got fried pickles and calamari! My entree was scallops with a veggie risotto. As my food was delivered each time they reiterated the allergy accommodation saying "gluten free dairy free". I am so impressed with how knowledgeable and considerate this restaurant is and highly recommend. Only disclaimer they gave me was that items that contain dairy are fried in the gf fryer but I'm not that sensitive to dairy so I was fine.
Seriously the best gluten free food! They were so sensitive to Celiac and even asked at the door if anyone in the party needed a gluten free menu. The crab cakes were out of this world and the garlic parmesan fries were amazing! And the true test, I did not get sick! We will most definitely be coming back to eat here during the rest of our stay.
The food was very good and they had a real gf menu that was very similar to the regular menu. When my take out bags arrived, every gf item was labeled with a sticker and placed in a separate bag to alert staff of the allergy. I didn't get sick and that's always a win in my book.
I was SOOO excited to eat here again. We were last at this location about a month ago (after eating at the one in VA Beach years ago), and while they're a bit pricey, the food was amazing and left me craving more. Well, this time was not the same experience. We have been repeatedly told that they 'take food allergies very seriously' (and the waiter for another table used same words this time too- not our waiter though). The service was awful. We got dirty cups, with 1 refill after sitting in heat on patio (would have brought it up to server, but couldn't find him). Non GF rolls brought to table and as an after thought, a GF one was offered. It made it to table right before food showed up. All food was run together, and while we noticed the plate shape was different, we were previously educated that only managers run 'food allergy' plates and they NEVER come out with other food. Not the case with this order. I was going to mention it, but I was hot and hungry, and our waiter disappeared, so we started digging in. Thats when we discovered that 'medium well'- even with a "no pink" center explaination from the hubby, got me a hamburger that was mostly 'medium', with some parts 'medium rare', and the staff agreed. (not my waiter at time, bc he never showed back up- my fam was almost DONE eating when I flagged down a different server and explained what happened). They did offer to make it right by bringing soup or a salad, something quick so I could finish up eating with my fam, but I ordered a burger bc I wanted actual food. And to top it off, idk if it's the roll, the fries or the tiny bit of burger I ate, but something glutened me. SO very disppointed. I was so happy to have found an amazing place, that took great strides to ensure the most 'allergy friendly' food possible, but after the cruddy service and the "we're gonna discount your food off the bill"- uh, no joke. We still paid $50 for 1 adult, 2 kids and I got to go home hungry. We won't be making that mistake again.
