They clearly have excellent allergy protocols, and I did not get sick after two different meals. The food was just lacking salt and sauce. The burger I had was bland and the lobster roll had no sauce or other topping. No ketchup on the take out order I got and very stingy with the ketchup in the restaurant. I would go back in a pinch, but it wasn’t great tasting for the high prices.
One of my go to stops when in Charleston and Charlotte NC. Amazing accommodation and majority of the menu is already naturally GF or can be made GF. As a bread lover before diagnosis this is the best bread I’ve ever had since the diagnosis. Definitely worth the stop! Never get a reaction when I go.

Wish we had one of these in every city in the country! They are so good with safe food and they train their team well. Our server, Cameron, was so well informed and took such good care of us. He was an absolute joy. The food was delicious and we felt great after. Both my husband and myself are gluten free and also have soy allergies. Fries are both GF and soy free!We have never had a reaction at any the Burton locations. They are amazing!
My husband & I decided to eat here after all of the rave reviews. I am Celiac with several food allergies and this restaurant takes allergies very seriously. We ate here for brunch, lunch and dinner during our trip. Brunch I had the Crab Cake Benedict and the “bag of donuts” GF and that was to die for. Better cold later on too. GF fries and lobster roll at lunch. And dinner had THE BEST Filet ever! I could cut it with my fork. And it compares to high end steakhouses. Really! Actually going to order from the butcher they use it was that good. We had the seven layer GF chocolate cake twice and it was delicious! Burtons, Please come to Delaware!
I had a wonderful experience at Burton’s and was able to get a meal that felt “normal” for the first time in a long time and wasn’t just something that was a typical gluten free menu item at most places like salads and grilled items.
I got the chicken picatta (fried chicken filet) and it was amazing. The cheesecake was also gluten free… there are SO many options and our waitress was fantastic. I felt welcomed and had zero nerves
They have a full gf menu almost identical to the actual menu and also were able to accommodate my dairy allergy as well. The waiter asked if there were any allergies before we ordered. I got the gf focaccia bread and general Tso’s chicken. Both were good, but the general tso’s chicken was not fried, it was just grilled. Felt very safe!
They have a very good protocol for gluten free needs so felt very comfortable eating there. GF bread service was amazing. I had gluten free crab cakes with sweet potato fries and coleslaw- was not a fan of the coleslaw at all but other items were good. Dessert we ordered was supposed to be warm but was cold so that was not great. A bit pricey for what you get overall.
FABULOUS!! A gluten free menu with dozens of choices! I had the crab cake appetizer, which came with a delicious spinach salad with crumbled bacon and baby corn kernels. Then I had a fried haddock sandwich on a gluten free bun with tartar sauce, pickled onion and thinly sliced cucumbers. Large piece of fish, so I only ate 1/2 the bun. Amazing gf chocolate cake for dessert!! All in all, a wonderful experience!! One of my all- time favorite restaurants from now on!!
This was my first visit to this location. I was not asked about any allergies like I am used to at other locations. I did have a gluten free menu, so maybe the waitress just assumed. I did tell her I had celiac when ordering. My dinner was amazing as always. I’ve never had a bad experience at any Burtons location.
This place was amazing. They have gf menu but my husband had regular menu and they were almost identical. My husband had the gf fried haddock sandwich and I had crab crusted haddock with Mac and cheese. Everything tasted great. Lots of appetizers, main menu food and a chocolate cake that I got to go because I was to full but looks wonderful.
I've eaten here several times and have never gotten sick. They are knowledgeable and always happy to accommodate my diet. The gluten-free menu is extensive. I love their burgers and how their buns don't get mushy or fall apart like so many others do. This is the only restaurant I've ever been to that offers a gluten-free bread service (although it is an extra cost) - the focaccia is delicious. Usually I don't have room for dessert, but I did try the cheesecake one time and it was amazing, creamy and decadent. I wish I lived in town so I could go here all the time.
If you have never been here YOU HAVE TO GO!! There is a whole gluten free menu and they are very very cautious with allergies. There are so many options and they are constantly changing up the menu. This is one of the only places I feel 110% confident in eating at because the staff takes allergies so important.
This is quite possibly the best restaurant experience I have had since I have had to go gluten free. The GF menu was extensive and the staff was very knowledgeable.
There were so many items we wanted to try on the GF menu! We had the Firecracker Shrimp, which was just delicious and came with a very tasty cucumber salad. The Maxx burger was unbelievably good, and the fried fish sandwich and sweet potato fries were very good. The GF buns on both sandwiches were so soft and delicious, they had the taste and texture of a real gluten bun. So amazing. We also tried the chocolate cake, which was a nice treat. We wish we had a Burton’s closer to where we live, because it was so good and there were many GF items we just couldn’t try this time!
This place was amazing!! So many GF options , the separate GF menu was the same size as the regular menu. All GF meals are served on a different shape plate and the servers are really knowledgeable. Best GF restaurant experience I have had and the food was amazing. Would highly recommend!
Chose this restaurant based on reviews here, but definitely ended up with cross contamination symptoms after eating the Harvest Bowl minus goat cheese. The hostess made a big deal over offering a gf menu, the waiter’s first question to the table was about food sensitivities, and yet. He seemed pretty flippant when I asked again for assurance my meal was gluten free when it was served. A person at the table who said she was gluten sensitive said she had no problem, but I cannot recommend for those with Celiac.
I had the Mediterranean chicken risotto, which was naturally gluten-free. It was good. The quality of the chicken was very nice. It was tender, and there was lots of it. I had the seven layer chocolate cake which was very good. My husband had the southwest chicken salad, which was very good. I wouldn’t say the risotto and cake were amazing but it sure is nice to have a decent gluten-free option. As other reviewers said, our waiter said they have a separate fryer for gluten-free items.
We were visiting and looking for a restaurant who had gluten free safe options for dinner. What a find!! The meal was wonderful! I actually got to have deep fried fish that was celiac safe! Our server was excellent! She was very knowledgeable about the menu, and went out of her way to ensure my meal was safe, and that we had a great experience. I’ve already made another reservation for later in the week!
This is my favorite restaurant to go to when visiting South Carolina. Not only is it owned by someone with celiac, but the staff must pass an exam on allergens/intolerances to be able to take orders and then pass a second exam to be able to serve the food. They offer a gluten free menu with a wide variety of options and also serve gluten free food on a square dish to avoid confusion.
Despite being celiac with oat, tomato, lactose, and sulfite intolerances, I have yet to react to anything on the menu. The food is great, the staff are friendly and understanding, and I wish there were more restaurants as safe as this one.
Was asked up front by the hostess if we were gluten free. The gluten free menu is big compared to other places we have tried. The starter bread was amazing and my wife enjoyed the house salad. We both had burgers for our mains, and they were good, but not amazing. I had Parmesan truffle fries for my side that were also only ok. The cheesecake for dessert though was very good.
Amazing experience. I have felt so limited in going out to eat. Then when I attempt to go out I’m always worrying. Most of the times I end up getting sick even after speaking to server and manager about celiacs cross contamination. Or I pass on food if they seem unknowledgeable and watch my friends eat. So to be able to go in sit down and be given kindness and accommodations felt really relieving. They have an entire separate color coded menu. The gluten free food comes out of different shaped plates. A designated Gluten free food runner is the only person who can delivery gluten free food to the table. I felt safe and relaxed for the first time in a long time at a restaurant. The food was very tasty and our server very nice. Overall great experience and will be coming back. I am from the northeast and their aren’t many restaurant options and once that do have GF are all not celiac safe. Plus the workers tend to be irritated by my questions and concerns.
This restaurant is such a safe haven for GF. Upon entering they ask each group if they need a GF menu which immediately set the tone. The wait staff was extremely knowledgeable and even worked us through our voluntary dairy limits. Huge GF selection and safe practices. We even order more to go! If you are in the area you must go!
Great casual choice with a wide variety! Our waiter was great and explained that they do things differently than other restaurants. They have a separate space for non GF food prep..meaning you can order most things! I had a fried fish sandwich and fries. So good! Kids also enjoyed their non-GF food. My daughter had a burger and she ate the whole thing!
We sat at the bar and talked to the bartender who also happened to be the "allergy technician" and he was super helpful. They clearly have good protocols. The General Tso chicken skewers were amazing. So many good options! Had a chicken sandwich with a good bun that didn't fall apart, safe fries, and of course had to try the mac and cheese! Was so good. Highly recommend!
This is one of our go to restaurants in the area. They have a full gluten free menu with almost everything on it!! They also have tons of options for a gluten free happy hour. The food is always consistently delicious and the gluten free items taste amazing!! They are very careful about cross contamination and totally get it. They are so good our whole family orders gluten free so my daughter can share everything and eat any left overs. Do yourself a favor frequent burtons!
Gluten free bread so good it’ll make you cry. Almost everything on their menu can be made gluten free. Felt so at ease as soon as we sat down and was asked if there were any allergies at the table. I notified them of a gluten allergy and the server told me gluten was the easiest allergy to accommodate. When gluten free is made to feel like the biggest inconvenience at many establishments, this was a total paradigm shifting experience. 13/10 recommend.
