Incredible restaurant. I’ve been to other locations, and they are all fabulous for celiacs. They always ask about any food allergies or intolerances up front, and the servers are very knowledgeable. They are great about cross contamination, and the gluten free menu offers almost all the same items as the regular. The food was delicious!! They have gluten free bread, foccacia, donuts and french toast for brunch!! Truly one of the best spots for gluten free—such a treat to be able to order anything!!
This is my most favored place to eat out - excellent food, gf all clear and safe, good waitstaff… From VA to MA - a reliable and yummy restaurant for gf folk!!!
Burtons has a made from scratch kitchen and can essentially make anything GF. They are super careful about allergies down to the plates they use for GF v non GF items. I got the short ribs and it’s phenomenal. It comes with garlic mashed potatoes and brussel sprouts. I would personally substitute the brussel sprouts for something else since they are just cooked and there is nothing special about them. We also got the bread service and unfortunately the bread was a bit stale. We got the buffalo chicken dip too and that was really great! They rotate their menu and I would definitely come back!
Burtons Grill takes many precautions in safely serving gluten-free guests. Hosts ask if anyone in the party needs a gluten-free menu before seating. Servers inquire about food allergies or dietary restrictions when greeting the table. Cooks wash their hands & change gloves before starting any allergy meal. Special sets of purple cutting boards, chef knives & utensils are set aside in the kitchen to prepare only gluten-free food & they are washed/sanitized in between every use. There are three separate fryers in the kitchen, two of which are always dedicated gluten free. Gluten does not touch the charbroiler. All gluten-free/allergy food is served on square plates to designate them as such & they are delivered to the table by a manager or certified allergy specialist.
Absolutely love this place!
Delicious GF food, large GF menu, legitimate safety protocols, and right on Cary street!
I’ve been here more than 5 times as a celiac and never gotten sick. Their brunch is amazing (GF donut holes!!) as well as their dinner. The GF dinner menu is the same size as the regular menu!
Spoke with the manager and he told me about their kitchen safety protocols as well as that you have to be trained to deliver allergy safe food!
100/10 recommend this place.
The host asked us if we wanted GF menus, without any prompting, waitress asked us if there was any allergies she should know about. Very knowledgeable about cc and was able to make to order for our family of five. They use square plates for GF food and round plates for gluten-containing food so very easy to confirm the safety of your order. Huge GF menu, everything was delicious.
Lots of variety and seems to be a safe places to go but after eating at several locations, they are just okay taste wise. The number of options is great for someone with Celiac but I almost wish they’d offer less choices and perfect the recipes on a smaller number of items. I really want this place to be great but the taste just isn’t there.
They have full gluten free menus during regular service, and gluten free items are marked on their brunch menu. The food is great, and it is checked multiple times and delivered by a separate employee. The only time I was served an incorrect bun, it was caught before it even got to the table.
Fantastic separate GF menu. There’s celiac in the owners family and they are seriously dedicated to making sure your meal is gluten free safe. Brunch, on sat and sun, is amazing and you can get the awesome bag of donuts!! If you’re in Carytown and need a meal to go, Burton’s does take out. Love this place!
The food here is soooooo good! I ordered via Door Dash and everything came clearly marked as allergen sensitive. They had this amazing homemade bread with three different dips and I truly have never had gf bread that tasted that good! Also had artichoke dip which was fantastic. The chicken sandwich and Parmesan fries were also super delicious. Next time I am in Richmond I will absolutely order or go here again.
Love this place! A full Gluten Free menu with very knowledgeable wait staff. I am also dairy free and they helped me modify dishes to accommodate that as well. I have had both the General Tso Bowl and the Harvest Bowl. Both excellent. I do not have celiac, but I had no negative reaction. You can even view the menu online. Very well managed restaurant with great atmosphere. And parking behind building.
Excellent food with a GF menu that contains almost 80% of the full menu. This is a new location in Richmond's lively Carey St area. It was full on our visit. The staff was excellent, knowledgable and attentive to GF concerns. The GF bread appetizer had no GF taste. The raviolis were excellent. The cheesecake and GF chocolate cake were hits with the non celiac as well. To my wife this is now here gold standard for GF dining.
The most celiac-friendly restaurant I have been to without being 100% gluten-free. Huge separate GF menu, every food I had was amazing, and the waiters were incredibly helpful and knowledgeable. My food was handled and delivered completely independent of other gluten items at my table, boxed separately, and flagged without me asking. Will be a new regular spot for me!
I think Burtons Grill & Bar is my new favorite! Great atmosphere, service, food & drinks! For anyone with Celiac or a gluten sensitivity, this is the place to go, basically the entire menu is GF or GFO.
My girlfriends and I visited for brunch today! We had the Bag of Donuts & Firecracker Shrimp to start. Lobster Roll, Crab Cake Benedict, and Biscuits and Gravy for entrees. Cucumber Mint Mimosa & Spiked Cold Brew for drinks!
The staff was so attentive and wanted to make sure we had the best experience. Definitely give this place a try! 10/10!
This food was amazing! First question, do you need any gf menus. Then the server came over and said my gf meal would be on a purple card given to the kitchen where they would change gloves, use separate utensils, pans and all be served on square plates. We split a fried cod sandwich and thr California Chicken Sandwich. One was with parm/garlic truffle fries and the other plain. We also have the rosemary foccaia bread. Absolutely delicious. This location has only been open 3 weeks and they are on top of their game. So many options! Can't wait to try another location!
We sat at the bar and talked to the bartender who also happened to be the "allergy technician" and he was super helpful. They clearly have good protocols. The General Tso chicken skewers were amazing. So many good options! Had a chicken sandwich with a good bun that didn't fall apart, safe fries, and of course had to try the mac and cheese! Was so good. Highly recommend!
This is one of our go to restaurants in the area. They have a full gluten free menu with almost everything on it!! They also have tons of options for a gluten free happy hour. The food is always consistently delicious and the gluten free items taste amazing!! They are very careful about cross contamination and totally get it. They are so good our whole family orders gluten free so my daughter can share everything and eat any left overs. Do yourself a favor frequent burtons!
Gluten free bread so good it’ll make you cry. Almost everything on their menu can be made gluten free. Felt so at ease as soon as we sat down and was asked if there were any allergies at the table. I notified them of a gluten allergy and the server told me gluten was the easiest allergy to accommodate. When gluten free is made to feel like the biggest inconvenience at many establishments, this was a total paradigm shifting experience. 13/10 recommend.
They clearly have excellent allergy protocols, and I did not get sick after two different meals. The food was just lacking salt and sauce. The burger I had was bland and the lobster roll had no sauce or other topping. No ketchup on the take out order I got and very stingy with the ketchup in the restaurant. I would go back in a pinch, but it wasn’t great tasting for the high prices.
