The waitress knew I have celiac disease and carried regular bread and my glass of water in the same hand with the glass touching the bread. Then proceeded to try to put the bread down right in front of me. We made her take the bread and water away and explained why. My husband asked her if she had been trained on how to handle gluten-free meals. She said no. We explained what happened to the front of the house manager who assured us that he would personally take care of things and that our gluten-free meals would be served by a manager. I decided to stay because of his assurances that all would be safe and it was my husband's birthday. The food was NOT brought to our table by a manager and they sent a different server every time. The food was NOT safe and now I am sick as a dog! I will NEVER go there again.

Cooper's Hawk has a great GF menu. The staff has always been super knowledgeable about gluten and cross contamination. I've been here several times and always have a pleasant experience.
Celiac-friendly! Our 2 celiac diners had no adverse reactions to the food, and considering how careful they are "behind the scenes," this doesn't surprise me. There is an extensive GF-specific menu with GF rolls offered before the meal. We'll definitely be back.
This restaurant did NOT disappoint. We were staying at the Westin and had a not so pleasant experience at Saranello's. We walked across the parking lot to Cooper's Hawk. They were closing the kitchen in a half an hour, but didn't act like we were a bother. They spent time going through the menu and while we were waiting for our food (since we ordered to go), we spent time at the Wine Tasting. The gal who assisted us was quite knowledgeable and we were also listening to the other servers conversation who was very knowledgeable. We enjoyed tastes of the Cabernet-White Zinn combo, Moscato and the Pomegranate wines. I like sweeter wines so enjoyed the Moscato and Pomegranate wines. I did not care for the Cabernet-White Zinn combination, but my husband enjoyed that. We ordered the COOPER'S HAWK CHICKEN GIARDINIERA$16.99 Parmesan Breaded Chicken, Shaved Parmesan, Mary’s Potatoes CHICKEN MADEIRA$17.99 Mushrooms, Provolone, Mary’s Potatoes, Asparagus The parmesan crusted chicken was excellent and my 12 year old loved it. We ordered the GIARDINIERA sauce on the side and am glad we did. It had a bit of a kick to it and my son didn't really care for the taste. I liked it, but then I love veggies and spices so it was perfect for me! The Chicken Madeira was excellent and the chicken almost melted in our mouths it was so tender. There were lots of mushrooms and it had a perfect taste. We ordered a white chocolate truffle and a turtle truffle which were awesome! We also ordered the Creme Brulee for dessert and there was plenty for all 3 of us to enjoy. We were so glad that Cooper's Hawk was there close by to save the day when we wanted a later dinner and weren't treated so well at Saranello's. We will definitely return!

I've been here a few times and service and food is very inconsistent. My meal tonight wasn't good. Along with gluten, I'm having issues with egg and dairy which I kept informing the waiter. Although the waiter tried to help, he kept running back to talk to the chef about the ingredients. It would have been better to have the chef or manager come speak with me. Gluten free bread & butter was brought out, which I could not have. My shaved Brussels sprout salad came out with Parmesan cheese, which I had to remove the cheese, and the dressing was placed on the side, which I was informed at serving that I could not have. I would not have chosen a raw and shaved Brussels sprouts if communicated to me in advance. My filet mignon was average... not good quality for price. The kale side was drenched and overcooked...terrible. They forgot the roasted broccoli and had to have kitchen prepare after we were all served. I didn't realize until it was too late, they put butter on the broccoli! Don't go here. Very noisy, always cold and very inconsistent. (Party of four, no desserts, 2 1/2 hours...very slow service..waiter could never be found).
I let server know I have allergies to gluten and soy. He took our order. He came back a couple of minutes later to take it again. He did not want to mess up. Ordered a Caesar salad no croutons. I ordered a filet mignon with mashed potatoes. My salad came out with croutons. After I pointed this out they brought me another one. My entre came out before I was done my salad. Huge pet peeve of mine. My steak came out with fried and battered onions on top. This too was not gluten free. They took my meal back and brought another one. I asked to speak to the manager. She came over and told me they take allergies very seriously. I told her both my salad and entre came out wrong so it didn’t seem to be the case. They did comp most of our meals. But no, I will never go back.
I told my waiter that I was Celiac and he knew my requirements immediately. However, I was brought brioche that was accompanied by a knife that was dirty. The knife had crumbs and grease stains on it. I told the waiter why it was important that I not eat bread cut with the same knife. He skirted the issue and then returned to the kitchen. The issue went unaddressed, which demonstrated to me that a real awareness of the core issues was not there. I love this restaurant and have been a wine club Member for many years. I am sorely disappointed.
Excellent gluten free menu. However, server knowledge is very poor. They asked if my one year old had an allergy or preference. The first time we were there they accidentally served her wheat pasta. We tried again, hoping it was a fluke, and they served her cross contaminated fries. Scary.
I ordered the risotto and short ribs. I tested with my Nima sensor, it said gluten found. I showed my server, who showed the manager. They brought me a new meal, which tested safe. The server was very willing to answer questions & ask the chef. I truly believe it was a kitchen mistake. I even called ahead and they seemed very knowledgeable. I would go back again, only with my Nima sensor.
So so so happy to have found out this very nice place that take gluten free seriously! They actually had GF items in the kids menu for my celiac 3 year old! I called ahead and talked to kitchen manager and was told they do ALL GF in separate pans ,etc. Waitress confirmed same when we got there. they even had gluten free bread thay wasn't a hard for a 3 year old to eat Udi roll! So Happy!
This was my third time eating here md I’ve had a great experience every time. There are lots of choices on the GF menu from entrees, pastas, burgers and salads and the wine is quite good as well. I’m really glad this restaurant is another great GF option in Reston
Extensive gluten free menu. Large, crowded restaurant on Thanksgiving day. I typically avoid restaurants during busy times. The server assured me of their policies to avoid cross contact. GF bread brought out prior to meal separately from regular breaf for others at my table. Enjoyed the chicken lettuce wrap appetizer and chicken madeira entree with potatoes and asparagus. Everything was delicious and good sized portions. I am a highly sensitive celiac and did not experience any symptoms.
My girlfriend and I both have Celiac disease. She has eaten here on multiple occasions and has never had a problem. I ate here tonight and the food was amazing. We made a reservation and let the kitchen know before we arrived that allergy prep was necessary and everyone knew when we sat down that this was the situation. They have a gluten free menu. I am impressed with their execution. For me this place knows how to address Celiac preparation. You should try it for yourself. I fully recommend the Mexican Drunken Shrimp.
My family and I recently dined with them for my birthday, my mother, brother and myself all have celiac along with other autoimmune issues. Every single one of us got sick, having had different entrees and not touching the bread before the meal. I had the vegan gluten free option which contains hummus and cooked vegetables with rice, they originally brought it out with pita on the plate and took it back. I didn't complain while there but I think other celiacs should be aware that this kitchen did not do a good job catering to celiac needs.
huge gluten free menu with lots of desert choices. they can bring delicious and hot GF bread to the table when asked. The kids menu has lots of gluten free choices as well - burgers with buns, Mac and cheese, ....the food was great. The servers were knowledgeable about allergies

The manager came over and told me how safe the kitchen and food were for celiacs. They had a fantastic GF menu. I was so excited to eat out. Fast forward that night and I was so sick. It was not a minor episode from a little cc. It was full blown. I will never trust them again.
Love that they give you endless GF bread at the table LIKE NORMAL GLUTINOUS PEOPLE. But don't fill up, because the real food is amazing. Bacon wrapped "drunken" shrimp, lettuce wraps (big as a meal but priced as an app), short rib risotto and burgers are all worth writing home about. You can also get wine samples at the table, free of charge.
I was recently diagnosed with celiac disease & this was my first restaurant experience since being diagnosed. I could not have had a better experience. My wife mentioned that I had celiac when she made the reservation & when we arrived at the table the gluten free menu was waiting for me. There is a VERY wide variety of appetizers & entrees so I felt like I had a ton of choices. There was a breaded & fried calamari appetizer that they were more than happy to prepare non-breaded & sautéed rather than fried. Overall the food & wine was wonderful as was the ambience. They also have gluten free bread! I will be returning to this place often!
We have eaten at Cooper's Hawk quite a few times with three strictly gluten-free people. I love this restaurant and the food, but it's not totally safe. Once our party was served regular bread despite gf menus (which we sent back), once my dad was served a regular meal. That was OK because he's gf to support the rest of us. On this last visit they gave me regular pasta, despite requesting gf menus and detailing very carefully to the waiter who was gf and who wasn't at our table. I was tired and didn't question my meal when it arrived. The manager did come to tell me what happened, and apologized and comped my meal, but I ended up sick on my vacation. So, by all means eat here, but be very cautious and double-check what is delivered to the table.
Unfortunately none of the wines are gluten free. They use wheat filters on all of their wines. When I spoke with the head quarters about how deceptive the gluten free menu is because it reads as if all of the wines are gluten free, they were unapologetic. Beware
The food here is really good although portions are small and expensive. We waited 30 minutes for an appetizer of hummus and vegetables. Dinner, came after an hour. The salmon was the $33 and the size of a hot dog. If you have lots of time and money this is a good place because the food is good, but otherwise skip it. I am going to try to include pictures of tiny desserts.
Avoid Cooper's Hawk if you have celiac disease. I ordered the gluten feee lettuce wraps, and unknowingly, I was served a plate that was a mix of gf and gluten full. I ate two lettuce wraps and was horribly sick. Don't risk it. They tout themselves as safely gluten free, but they make horrible mistakes.
They have an extensive gluten free menu so at least they try. However they had two items on their gf menu that the server had to come back and tell us were actually not gf. We ordered the hummus and pita plate because we were excited to have gf pita. They brought out the platter and said "we don't actually have gf pita so we bring a gf roll instead". We wouldn't have ordered it if we knew that. They have a few gf pasta dishes so we were happy about that. But none of them were vegetarian. We ordered one without the shrimp and meat but they charged us full price anyway. They bring you a gf roll to the table which was nice. Not the best tasting but always a treat to get gf bread. They told us they keep things separate in the kitchen. I am hoping they do. However my celiac son was feeling very sick after we ate here. The food wasn't that good, it was very pricey and we are not sure if he was glutened. So for these reasons we will not be returning.
