Staff changed gloves down the line without being asked. The person who took my initial order was very knowledgeable and quick to tell me what was okay. I got the sweet pork salad and ordered it with everything on it, as well as chips and queso. Will definitely go back, it was heavenly.

I let them know I have celiac and mine needed to be gluten free. First guy changed his gloves and asked if I wanted the gluten free tortillas. He then passed my food down the line where the rest of the team hadn't changed their gloves. They grabbed the tin with their gloves touching the inside. They then passed it down the line where the next person did the same. And again with the cashier. Needless to say I won't be going back there. I am tired of places claiming to have gluten friendly items, but have such poor training on how to handle the food appropriately. Eateries need to stop asking if its allergy or preference and treat them both the same because employees get lax on the way they handle the food. People will keep getting sick until the state requires more training for food handling.

Notes

"We have worked diligently to remove wheat gluten from all our sauces, dressings, and proteins. Natural glutens remain only in our flour and wheat tortillas and in two desserts--tres leches and key lime pie. This means that we offer "oceans of gluten-free options" in our menu. All of these items are gluten-free: all enchiladas, all tacos, all salads (without the flour or wheat tortilla), all nachos, and our chicken tortilla so up...which uses corn strips."

Fabulous - no cross contamination. They always change their gloves or will at least ask if it’s a glove change before serving their food. A lot of the staff will even take time to wash their hands (up to their elbows) before putting gloves back on. I always get a salad with corn tortillas. :)

I eat here a lot. There are two things I wish this location would do differently with the food handling; First, have the first person that changed their gloves take my food all the way down the line. Sometimes the 2nd and 3rd employee change their gloves and sometimes they don't (but they use tongs for everything so I usually don't complain as long as they don't touch the food). Other locations have one person handle the entire process but this location for some reason wants to pass the food down. I've had the 2nd person touch the food with gloves that haven't been changed and I make them start over. Second, if ordering nachos, they use the same drawer of chips for GF orders and non-GF orders. Yes, they changed their gloves to get the chips out of the drawer but the last 10 orders before it were with contaminated gloves so the chips themselves are suspect at that point. I've been told by other celiacs that other locations have a dedicated chip drawer for GF orders. So, these are my two complaints with this location.

Such friendly staff and great food fast .... i just simply ordered as needing “gluten free” and they immediately change gloves and proceed to ask what you’d like. I have ordered enchiladas the few times I’ve gone... they grab corn tortillas & as soon as they pop my tray in the conveyor oven (to melt cheese) they let the next person know its gluten free coming thru... they too change their gloves. Great service & good food fast!

I’m fairly newly diagnosed so I don’t think about all the ways you can get cross contamination. The person who made my salad did not change their gloves after making a burrito. I did mention I was gluten free, and asked about a few items, just didn’t think about that.

Edit 2019: no longer safe. Requests to redo mistakes was met with hostility as long as I watch them and remind them not to touch my food without changing their gloves, this is safe. most the time I don't have to say anything. If they do touch it on accident without changing gloves, they will remake it.

Went in this evening to order dinner for myself and my celiac husband. I ordered their grilled steak salad, gluten free. No sooner were the words out of my mouth than the gentleman behind the counter threw away the tray he had pulled out, replaced his gloves with fresh ones, and grabbed gluten free tortillas. He was careful not to "contaminate" the food at any point in the process. It is delightful to be able to eat somewhere that I don't have to stress about whether it will make my husband sick. Oh, and their sweet pork is to die for.

They’ve worked really hard over the last few years to get their entire menu gluten free except for the flour tortillas! Costa vidas allergen list on their website shows what is gluten and dairy free if you have concerns. The staff at this location, however, could use a bit of training regarding CC. They changed gloves when I asked, but then left it to another employee to continue taking my salad down the line. I had to stop them before touching with their contaminated gloves. Luckily, I had no issues and most locations are better about staying with your food through the line.I’ve actually been to this location a few times as it’s an easy go-to when I need to travel to Pocatello and haven’t had problems before.

Gluten free tortillas are kept separate in a sealed bag, only brought out when asked for. All toppings and fillings are gluten free, save for the regular and whole wheat tortillas, tres leches cake, and key lime tart. The workers gladly change gloves when you two them the order is gluten free, and I have never had a reaction (painfully celiac since 2017)

Great place to stop at on the way through town. They’ve adjusted their menu so that everything is gluten free except for the flour tortillas. Immediately changed gloves at the mention of a gluten allergy and placed a lid on the salad when finished so that no one else would touch it (even though we were staying in). Very attentive, no issues.

We ate here recently. It’s set up like Chipotle, but the food tastes better. They said they can make anything gluten-free with a soft corn tortilla. I asked them to change their gloves. The chicken tastes fire-grilled and the rice was some of the best I’ve had anywhere! Neither my son or I got sick, so we were happy! (I’m not positive if the toppings come into contact with flour tortillas or not. That’s something to be aware of.) To melt the cheese, the staff puts the tortilla on aluminum foil on the grill. That’s a great way to do it! They make their tortillas fresh every day. Yum!

Not impressed. I’ve been there a few times and asked for gluten free. The staff did change their gloves but didn’t wash their hands or take any special care of my food. It seems like some employees do and some don’t know how sensitive someone can be. I don’t see employees communicate to each other that my dish is gluten free. My regular Costa Vida is Tooele and I’ve always been happy, never been sick but each time I visit West Jordan I am sick.

This place can, at best, be called gluten wise. But this is not gluten free, nor is it anywhere near celiac friendly. Staff uses spoons/ladles that are used for meats and beans and they rub them against the tortillas while making the tacos and burritos. There is no care for gluten free individuals.

This was our go to place until I saw the employee take the rice spoon and spread the rice at the bottom of the tortilla touching the tortilla and then putting it back in the rice container. This location needs some extra training I've had to ask them to change their gloves every time and for a new container after they put a tortilla in it and then took it out and was expecting to use the same container.

I took my family here and ordered everything gluten free. They washed their hands and changed gloves, but didn’t change spoons. Then they put the spoon back in, so everything is cross contaminated. Definitely not celiac safe.

The food here has good flavor and their gluten free options and process are better than most but I can't stand how messy their serving line is. Beans, rice, meats etc. are spilled all over the place and it looks like a tornado hit. I finally stopped going as I was disgusted at the cleanliness of their food prep/serving area.

I was so impressed with this location when we usually go to Costa vida they just change their gloves, but this location the girl who took my order when I told her I had celiac she took her gloves off and washed her hands and arms up to her elbows. I appreciated the extra time and care she took and she went down the line and made our whole salad.
