Food was OK. Staff has some training regarding GF and allergen concerns but it's largely ceremonial. Yes, everyone changes their gloves the second you mention GF. It's a nice gesture. However, all ingredients are pulled from bins by hand, and the same press and comal are used for both corn and flour tortillas. I had a sweet pork bowl, and I did not get a reaction, but this is flirting with danger for me and I probably won't try them again.
Website had info on what was safe, most of it was. Worker happily changed gloves and went slow to be careful and avoid cross contamination. Some said sauces were spicy but I didn't feel that way. They will give you a chip to try sauces before they put it on your food. So if you're worried about that, try them first. 7 year old celiac daughter was very happy and ate her veggie enchiladas up!
well trained staff and great food. I have never had issues with spicy food and was very happy that they immediately changed gloves when I told them I needed gluten free. I will be a frequent customer
Very good food! You need to ask the manager which sauces and dressings are gluten and MSG free and make sure they check. I am very sensitive and rarely have any type of reaction when I eat here.
The staff is trained well with gluten free food handling. I rated it lower because the food was much spicier than many Mexican food places I've eaten at. It caused other gut issues and isn't worth going back. A bust for me but could be a great option for others

I let them know I have celiac and mine needed to be gluten free. First guy changed his gloves and asked if I wanted the gluten free tortillas. He then passed my food down the line where the rest of the team hadn't changed their gloves. They grabbed the tin with their gloves touching the inside. They then passed it down the line where the next person did the same. And again with the cashier. Needless to say I won't be going back there. I am tired of places claiming to have gluten friendly items, but have such poor training on how to handle the food appropriately. Eateries need to stop asking if its allergy or preference and treat them both the same because employees get lax on the way they handle the food. People will keep getting sick until the state requires more training for food handling.
The food was good but I felt sick right afterwards. I would recommend watching the line more carefully and speaking up to make sure your food is prepared properly at the end of the line. The first server changed her gloves and washed her hands but I dont believe the second did. Update: I gave the food a second chance and ordered nachos again. The manager was serving at the front of the line and made sure my food was safe. No issues. I also noticed that he got chips from the back---something that did not happen last time. I believe those chips made the difference.
We have been here a dozen times already. Be clear that you can’t have cross contamination. They will change gloves, and we have never had issues.
They have a lot of GF options. They wash their hands and change gloves with a smile. I haven’t been glutened there yet. Only concern is with cross contamination on the line. I bet they would get fresh ingredients off the line if I asked though.
Love Costa Vida! Everything is Gluten Free except for the flour tortilla and the dessert.
They have amazing food and we loved it! They can make everything on their menu GF except some desserts. Staff is very helpful. Definitely recommend!
The staff is always great. When I say I need gluten free they always go wash their hands and put on new gloves. They also make sure anyone who handles my food knows it’s GF. Never had a problem at a Costa Vida. I love that I can eat almost everything here and it’s yummy!
My son and I are both Celiac- we both got sick within 15 minutes of eating the 2 times we tried it. I even requested they wipe off their tortilla machine as they prepare both corn and wheat on the same equipment. No changes in our reactions. Some of their meats have a flour thickener so I was told to stick with steak.
They are very good at accommodating Gluten Free. Be sure to tell them you need tour menu Gluten Free and the staff member will wash their hands and change their gloves and be the only staff member to touch your food.
Beware of cross contamination: I am the only gluten free person in my family. I watched them prepare my son's meal prior to mine. They touched all of the preparation utensils to his flour tortilla. I asked if it was possible for the meat and sauce for my meal to come from a different bin. They said yes, and got new sauce. Then they proceeded to get meet from the same that had previously been cross contaminated. Ironically, the whole time they prepared my food, they were super careful not to touch the serving utensils to the gf tortilla. Also, the gf tortilla was unusually thick and rubbery.
Costa Vida is awesome!!! Seems like the entire restaurant is focused around Gluten Free. I eat here at least once a week. I’ve never been sick. Staff is knowledgeable about gluten. They are helpful & friendly. Best place for Celiacs.
There was some confusion over my gluten free order. The young man washed his hands and changed gloves then proceeded to make my order. He left it about half way through the line. Another young man first scooted the pans containing flour burritos then touched my salad as he scooted it down the line. When I pointed out that it was gluten free and he touched it he denied it. I told him I have celiac disease and could not eat it. Joe came to my rescue and washed his hands and put on gloves. He then proceeded to make my meal gluten free. I am not one to cause a scene but I do not want to become sick. Thanks to Joe for correcting my order
Had the sweet pork enchiladas! They changed gloves, and made me feel taken care of. I'm not celiac but I appreciated the extra care. The tortilla is a bit thicker and on the dryer side so get saucy or your plastic knife will have a hard time. I will be back.
The worker changed gloves and washed their hands made me impressed, but I bought a sweet pork enchilada, and got black beans, with pinko. But 30 min later I started having really bad stomach problems. They said everything besides the flour tortillas are gluten free. But I think it was caused by cross contamination.
Have to give 5 stars. As soon as I came into the store and told them I needed gluten free the man who took my order washed his hands and changed gloves. He also was the only one who touched my food. I felt comfortable they did everything in their power to prevent cross contamination. A new regular spot for a gf family.
Great food! Get the Baja bowl with grilled chicken and add your toppings. You walk in and tell them you have celiac disease and they immediately have the whole staff change their gloves. Food is great, no cross contamination and I didn’t get sick. Costa Vida, I love you!
They use the same tortilla press for their corn and wheat tortillas. No way that doesn’t have cross contamination and changing spoons in the same prep stuff that is already cross contimsted doesn’t work.
The young man there knew quite a bit about what was gf. I got the chicken nacho. I was able to put anything I wanted on it. After getting my drink I noticed they have Rice Cinnamon Milk (df) there! I’m gonna try it next time for sure! Very happy, will be back!
This is one of the costa vida locations I do trust. I’ve gotten glutened at the several locations (including Riverdale) but I’ve never had a problem at this location. The owners of this location have celiacs in the family and I feel like they actually do get it. They always wash hands. Both my friend & I got sick from the Riverdale location two years ago so this is one of the few I go to .
Fabulous - no cross contamination. They always change their gloves or will at least ask if it’s a glove change before serving their food. A lot of the staff will even take time to wash their hands (up to their elbows) before putting gloves back on. I always get a salad with corn tortillas. :)
I have eaten here a lot since moving to Tooele. This location, specifically, is my favorite. The staff is knowledgeable and well-trained on making gluten-free items. The manager is fantastic and usually takes care of my order herself. There’s even an employee with celiac who understands the ins-and-outs of being truly gluten-free. The same is true for most other Costa locations, but this one really stands out.
I’ve eaten here twice and have been so impressed by their care over my food. They changed their gloves, washed their hands and made sure to follow my food all the way to the end of the line. I didn’t want to risk a corn tortilla though. So I can’t speak to those. But everything else was great and didn’t make me sick!
