the gluten free menu is kind of small, but it’s easy to work around. i got the vegetable plate, and since they have a wide variety of vegetable/fruit/etc. sides you can pick whichever floats your boat. i personally chose green beans, pinto beans, turnip greens, and fried apples
They make biscuits in their kitchen so there is risk of cross contact however if you explain to your server you have to eat gluten free they can make your meal safe. I had 2 eggs over medium, bacon, spicy chicken sausage, & a fruit cup. Didn’t get sick & left full. They have an allergy guide I will make it easy for you..eggs, any meats, & fruit. They have gf snacks in their gift shop, just check labels. We have eaten at many locations on road trips & never had an issue afterwards.
Cracker Barrel does have a website of all the allergens and cross contact possibilities in their foods. I studied it the night before my family selected this restaurant for lunch today. Practically everything they have has gluten or some sort of cross contact. The tell you up front not to order anything fried or grilled, so I don’t think they are very interested in accommodating.
I told the server I was celiac and I don’t think it mattered, as she seemed to have a low understanding of the condition. I ordered the side salad and baked sweet potato. I asked her about the caramelized pecan sauce, and she said she would ask and also have the toppings on the side.
The salad came out with croutons 🙄, which I immediately picked off. I asked her to find out if the bacon bits were chopped there or somewhere else; they came from a distribution center. She did offer to bring me a different salad. Kudos for that at least. I’m early in this diagnosis, so I just told her I would scoop it out and avoid it. I was too nervous to have the pecan sauce.
Bottom line is…don’t eat here. OMG! I think I read on Yelp that someone said to tell the manager when you came in that you are celiac and they would accommodate you as much as possible, but I didn’t do that. Also, I would imagine everything in there has come into contact with gluten. Not safe!
