Keep in mind that the Dinosaur website is explicit that they can't guarantee no cross-contamination and they're not responsible for any issues a diner may experience. I've been to this location many times and usually have felt safe as a celiac and enjoyed the bbq but unfortunately this time left me less supportive. The waiter was thoroughly clueless about celiac and I had to be forceful to impress upon him how serious celiac is and that the kitchen needed to be careful. He was polite and appeared to listen but I was nonetheless worried.

The real disappointment was that the quality of the food has gone down. The brisket was loaded with globs of fat, the greens were mushy, and the coleslaw loaded with unmixed mayonnaise.

To be clear, I didn't have any reaction so my rating is based on the poor quality of the food and the fear of possible contamination. There is better and safer bbq in NYC.

They had a gluten free menu but cornbread came on top of rack of ribs. Explained need for gluten free. My son ate ribs ( no cornbread) and had severe reaction 5 hours later.

Went tonight for dinner based on recommendations on FindmeGF. I have celiac. Pros: food was delicious and plentiful, prices were very reasonable, dedicated GF menu, waiter was friendly, helpful and seemed responsive and knowledgeable about GF. Cons: despite making my celiac and GF needs abundantly clear, our food came with cornbread on top. We sent it back immediately - waiter was very apologetic - and they brought us our meal again quickly, but it was instantly apparent that the kitchen had only just removed the cornbread, and had even left cornbread crumbs on top of the meat. We sent it back again and expressed frustration, and finally got a new meal without bread, but walked away feeling that this place just doesn't get it. While they do have a GF menu, they do not have any GF dessert options. May work for non-celiacs, but I would not recommend as safe for celiacs.

Great place to get a bbq meal! The gf menu is a bit weak though. It’s pretty much just their regular menu except half of it is missing because you can’t eat it. They have a section called “bunless sandwiches” which kind of felt like a rip off. It would have been great to have a gf roll or Cornbread or something. Overall I had a great meal, but I think they could do more with the options.

I placed a takeout order over the phone and told them I was ordering from the gluten free menu and that my daughter had celiac disease. When we brought the food home we saw they put cornbread on top of my daughter's entree. We called the restaurant and they told us the cornbread wasn't gluten free. Won't be going back.

Great food and great service. Beware of the sides, though. My gluten free beans were full of gluten macaroni. They must be very close together in the kitchen. Just keep this in mind when making your side selection.

Great GF food but this place gets ridiculously crowded. I went on a Monday night but we had to wait 2 hours for a table. if you're lucky, you might be able to sit on the bar without waiting.

Dinosaur BBQ was our first restaurant outing after our kids were diagnosed with celiac disease. We could not have had better experience. The management and wait staff were knowledgable, kind and accommodating. The food was good though what i really remember is how nice they were which was exactly what I needed that day. I'm a fan.

Ugh. I am leaving this review feeling very conflicted. I LOVE dinosaur bbq and have eaten safely at their other establishments (Syracuse&Brooklyn) numerous times. We even had them cater our wedding!! This review is specifically related to my experience at the Troy location. I ate there last Sunday, specified that I have Celiac Disease and was halfway through my meal when I noticed a small piece of cornbread mixed into my mashed potatoes! I am 3 months pregnant, was a 4 hour drive from home and was a total mess worrying about the possible aftermath. The waitress and manager were very apologetic and kind but the damage was done and I refused their offer of a new dish. Obviously there was some carelessness in the kitchen that day and I worry about how strict their GF protocol is at this location. This may be an isolated incident and I know accidents do happen, but I’d advise anyone who eats at this location to be extremely careful, maybe request the manager to oversee your plate and inspect your food before you eat it!

Ordered take out on door dash. Got the bbq chicken with mashed potatoes (specified in the comments needed to be gluten free due to celiac and please no gravy) also got the black beans and rice. Food arrived with sticker on the container specifying “gluten free”. Was great until I opened it and there’s gravy on the potatoes (which has gluten) called and was told I had to go through door dash for the refund. At least sides are packaged in individual containers so I could still have the rest of the meal. The chicken was good but I was not a fan of the black beans and rice. I’ve also had the salt potatoes on separate occasion and wasn’t a fan.

There were few gluten free options and I got the pulled pork and it was terrible. The menu was limited and the sandwiches on the gluten free menu didn’t have any bread. It was not my favorite and I don’t suggest going.

Great food and excellent server. Despite being busy staff was knowledgeable and attentive and they usually have a separate server/manager bring out GF orders. Cornbread is NOT safe so make sure tell them to leave it out. Edit: Went back and received phenomenal service and careful attention. Probably my best experience eating out with celiac to date. Also incredible food and many options I should add.

Winner, winner chicken wing dinner! Smoked chicken wings are great!! Tender, flavorful and moist with a light char grilled outside. Wango tango sauce was great addition to the wings. Coleslaw was good not great and the greens(collards and mustard)only had smoked turkey so my pork allergy wasn’t an issue. Brisket was ok not phenomenal but decent. I’m a mesquite bbq snob so getting a celebratory great out of me is darn near impossible. The slathering sauce was also good.

Waitress was compassionate, eager to clarify and brought us the allergen menu in addition to the gluten free menu. The food came quickly and accurately. We also were pleasantly surprised when we bought a bottle of wango tango sauce and it was only $3.99. Well worth the price and we had assumed it would be much higher. Good on them for not taking advantage. Parking is free on street after 5pm and we were told there was a free lot behind the restaurant but didn’t see it. Well be back.

Perhaps the best St Louis ribs I've ever had, plus yummy pulled pork and great wings. The chili was phenomenal and my husband's said the mashed potatoes were the best he's ever had. Full gluten free menu, no gluten free buns but your definitely here for the meat. They also had red bridge and angry orchard. Staff was well versed in gluten free options and service. Good was carried out separately to prevent cross contamination. Awesome.

UPDATE: I went here again and after discussing my situation as a celiac with the server and asking about cross contamination etc, I was nevertheless served a plate with corn bread (that's made with wheat flour) on it. I was super polite but asked them to please take it back and make a new one -- not to just remove the bread and re-serve, because that would make me sick. Unfortunately that's exactly what happened. I trusted that the server was taking care of me (he seemed super earnest), so was half-way through eating my meal before I saw the cornbread crumbs still stuck on my plate. Of course I got super sick for the next week and it was totally avoidable. I feel like it's possible the server intentionally decided that he just didn't give a f*** about my health and safety and would re-serve because I "wouldn't notice". Super upsetting because the owner is cool and seems to care -- but at busy periods like before a Devil's game, the staff either isn't trained safely or just doesn't give a s***. I won't go back after that -- not worth rolling the dice. :(

ORIGINAL REVIEW: These folks really took care of me. I mentioned I was celiac and asked if the staff changes their gloves etc. They have a separate area where GF food is prepared and they take it really seriously. Later the manager came out and mentioned his daughter is gluten free and they follow cross contamination procedures in their house to keep her safe. I will definitely be back and really appreciated these folks. Plus the brisket is delicious. ;)

Despite some recent negative reviews, I gave Dino a shot. I went for lunch while it wasn't busy and sat at the bar. The bartender seemed knowledgeable; she knew to ask if I wanted a cider, not a beer. My food came on a different colored plate and the server paid close attention to what they were doing. I felt comfortable.

This is the type of place that has good intentions, but poor execution. I told the waitress I was gluten free, but when my plate came there was a big piece of cornbread on it. We've also ordered takeout and gotten mixed reviews on which items were and were not gluten free.
