Very knowledgeable- asked if it was allergy or preference. has GF menu which is most of the menu. Had tostado, spinach/artichoke flatbread, tropical salad w blackened chicken which does not have the crisps onions. Mine came out w them and the manager rushed over to apologize. Overall great food. Also mojitos are yummy!
They had a separate gluten free menu and even had a dedicated gluten free fryer, so I got to have French fries!! The server was very knowledgeable and helpful. I highly recommend Doc Ford’s.
Best gluten free menu and delicious! I have never seen such a large gluten free menu anywhere, 3 whole pages!
Extensive gluten free menu. We tested the grilled chicken sandwich on gf bun, 1/2 roasted chicken, mashed potatoes and mixed vegetables with Nima Sensor. Result indicated our order was gluten free. Everything was delicious.
sehr grosse GF Speisekarte für erwachsene ein Traum. leider nichts für unseren Zöliakie Sohn drauf.
They have a very extensive gluten free menu and seem to know what they are doing. My food was very good.
They have a Gluten Free Menu, many dishes are the same from the regulare menu, that simply needs to be ordered GF. Burgers come with no bun, no dedicated fryer. They seems to be informed about celiac and cross contamination but we didn't risk it and had a cheeseburger no bin and we were fine.
Fabulous. They have a wonderful gluten free menu with many options that are delicious, including paella, and steamed oysters in garlic, lemon, butter with a lovely gluten free pita like bread for dipping - heaven. We went twice in a three day stay in the area. A very fun water view of the intercoastal watetway!!!
They have an extensive gluten free menu, which is the only good thing I can say. We had to wait over 30 minutes longer than they suggested (forecasted to be an hour). The food took 50 minutes from when we ordered. It was mediocre at best. Given all the positive reviews on the site, I wonder if we were just there on a bad day.
Gluten free menu. Top quality seafood prepared well. Fun atmosphere with outstanding location right on the harbor. You can even arrive by boat and dock at the restaurant. If you don’t have a boat, you can enjoy watching the procession of craft through the harbor (everything from small inflatables, luxury yachts, working fishing vessels, and even a pirate tour boat). It can get crazy crowded at peak times, but definitely worth the wait. A great Southwest Florida dining tradition.
LOVED IT HERE! The waitresses immediately had a GF menu on hand and they were very knowledgeable about all of the GF options. I had previously seen reviews for celiac-friendly fries, but they weren’t on my GF menu so that was disappointing. I had the shrimp scampi flat bread and I could not have asked for a better meal. The food didn’t take that long to come out and it was the best tasting food, like tasted like a pizza, that I have had in so long. I wish I could go back for every meal on this trip!!
Flatbreads & shrimp tacos are the go to. Great options. Lots of options. Every single time the manager has come out to talk to me which rarely seems to happen anywhere else let alone every single time. I usually get a flatbread. Best part is my entire family (who can have gluten) love the place so we go every time we're visiting. Their shrimp tacos are delicious too
Amazing food! Had the margarita pizza on a gluten free flatbread, and it was delicious! They do have a gluten free fryer, and the fries are terrific! I have been twice since being diagnosed with Celiac, and have had Absolutely no issues. Visit if you have he chance
This place had an actual tri-fold GF menu full of amazing choices. My teenage daughter had the beef cheesesteak and I had a cheeseburger, both on the best GF rolls we've tasted in a long time. The fries have a dedicated GF fryer rounding out this awesome meal. **There are two Doc Ford's locations in Captiva; only this one has the dedicated fryer as it's a brand new kitchen. The chef came out and explained his fiancé has a dairy allergy and he now understands why prepping food safely is such a big deal. Wonderful experience all around!
Another great visit. Very nice Gluten-Free menu and knowledgeable staff. I had the blackened Grouper sandwich with GF bun and side salad with balsamic vinegar and oil from cruets. Delicious. IMPORTANT NOTE: they have relocated to a beautiful new building near the old location. The new address is 2500 Island Inn Road. 02-17-2016 review: Great luncheon. GF menu. Knowledgeable server. Had Campeche Fish Tacos with GF corn taco option. Best tasting beans and rice I have ever had. Staff showed their allergy awareness by bringing a fresh batch of Papaya poco de gallo direct to our table and explaining they had just prepared carefully to ensure no contamination. Excellent food and attentive service while restaurant was packed at noon rush. This is a top notch operation.
Great gluten free menu! Food was delicious. Awesome atmosphere and view. Gluten-free Flatbread for sandwiches was great. Manager came to our table after we ordered to assure us that the GF meal would have special handling to ensure safety and no cross contamination.
The options were quite expansive. They now have a specific gluten free menu with many items and statements on how to order certain items gluten free. We did have a miss on the appetizer. Despite the server and us both saying no bread the mussels got plated with bread. Fortunately it was off to one side so our daughter still had several to choose from. The waiter was apologetic and was prepared to take it back but it worked out. We all had gf meals and so she was able to sample quite a bit. Banana leaf snapper, steamed shrimp in bay, paella and fish tacos. There isn't much in the way of gf desserts I saw, but we had no room anyway. Very good food, no reactions, solid process in place to accommodate.
I honestly wonder if they have a Celiac working there or someone associated with this company that is Celiac. They know exactly what to do and recommend. When the waitress offered the fancy drinks I asked her if I they were GF. She went to the bar and returned to tell me that I should stick to the simpler choices or wine. I was impressed with honesty. I had two meals there during our vacation week and had zero problems.
5 stars for having a separate gluten free menu so I don't have to weed through what I can't have. Really good gluten free flatbread pizzas and the gluten free bread is phenomonal! Get one of the shrimp boils with a side of gluten free bread that you can use to dunk in all of the flavorful buttery goodness!
I highly recommend this place. Many GF options. If you tell them you are gluten free due to a medical condition (like my celiac) they mark the ticket as such and cook your food on a dedicated gluten free line. The wait staff was very conscientious and notified me whenever they brought a gluten dish to the table. The kitchen staff came out before preparing my food to double check my restictions. I felt very safe. And the food is good too!
Impressed. The GF menu is huge with a variety of fantastic options. After I gave the waiter my order and before I could spit out my celiac routine & questions, the waiter asked if I was ordering for dietary preference or a medical condition because the chef would need to know if my food needs to be prepared in a separate area. Whoa! Never had someone offer up this information before. I always have to initiate the (often awkward) conversation so this proactive approach on the restaurants part was pretty exciting. The food was awesome, best fish tacos I've ever had. It's the day after and I'm in the clear, no issues. A great celiac find!
We went twice to the one on Captiva Island. They were very knowledgable both times we went. They don't have a ton of options but I felt like my daughter was in good hands. The manager came out and personally delivered her meals and dessert. She is very sensitive to even the slightest cross contamination and she didn't have a reaction. Overall very good just wish they had more options.
Please DO NOT eat here if you have Celiac disease. Our initial impression was very good as we ended up with a server that seemed knowledgeable. I explained to him that I have Celiac and must worry about gf ingredients as well as cross contamination. I ordered the Ribeye entree as my dinner and the server assured me all ingredients were gf. Three bites into my dinner I realized I was tasting soy sauce. I called the manager over and he checked with the kitchen who advised him they had in fact used soy sauce on the vegetables. He offered to make me a new one but that didn't help because I knew the evening would be spent vomiting. They took the meal off of the check and comped our drinks. I found Doc Fords on this website and needless to say I was very upset by my experience.
