Tucked away in the shop, they had a full menu of gluten free doughnuts ready and available on the spot! We got there when they first opened (after reading other reviews on this app). You can also pre-order them. The owner seemed busy, but he took the time to explain their precautions to ensure the gf doughnuts are not cross contaminated.

Cute place. Can't eat the donuts but their ice cream is delish and labeled GF. I recommend the salted caramel! Very friendly staff as well!

Please call ahead for gluten free/vegan! I had mixed instructions from the website and automated recording when you call. The guy who opened the shop and took my order was incredibly rude. Gf/vegan donuts are hard to come by so I placed my reservation for the next day anyways. Are they good? Yes. Are they worth it? Not to me. Even though they say vegan the chocolate topping seems questionable. I did feel sick afterwords.

I have been to Duck many times, but had not tried these donuts. Sadly, there is no online ordering, nor do they take orders over the phone. It’s first come first serve. I managed to be first in line. The donuts were delicious and I did not get sick. The maple frosting was my favorite. They are not a yeast donut but still delicious. On another day, I also had a delicious root beer float. I have celiac.

I come down to Duck every summer and this place is always a hit! The donuts taste so good and they have a lot of flavor options. They are the only place I found so far that has vegan and gluten free donuts! They do sell just vegan donuts and just gluten free donuts if you don’t have both allergies. You do have to get there before 11am to ensure the gluten free or vegan donuts do not sell out.

They use separate equipment, prep space and fryer for their donuts as per owner. Best chance to get GF donuts is on a Saturday from open until they run out of batter. Call ahead to make sure, though, they are so slammed all the time they may not pick up. On Sunday gotta be there at opening at 4pm to get some as they may only have a small batch of dough prepped. Again, this may vary, so stop by/call and ask. The dough is brown, looks like cider donuts if you had any in your pre-GF days. The size and shape are also similar to the cider ones - smaller than regular and more crumbly, less puffy than your usual doughnuts. But that does not mean they are not delicious!!!! Their GF donut options are not on their main menu but posted near the register. Ask to see it so you don’t panic order something random. There is definitely no chocolate GF donut option. And don’t forget to get the ice cream + donut combo! Their ice cream is out of this world. The glazes themselves are also very good. The price bites however. We got extra stuff with our order and left a tip, but we figured it was approximately $4-5 per donut. The owner is very laid back and the guys working the fryer and ice cream are very friendly. Overall I would definitely recommend!

The gluten free donuts here are amazing and they have a lot of flavor options, some even include frosting. Staff seemed very knowledgeable about allergens. We were told gluten free donuts started being served at 11am. We arrived around 11 on the dot and they had about 6 gluten free donuts. Definitely recommend this place, but make sure to get there early.

This was a hit for our group. They had clearly labeled GF ice creams and when asked, they had GF cones (sugar and cake) as well as staff who paid attention to details. August 2023 update - we still love the ice cream, but this is our child’s favorite GF donut place so far. They are back to allowing preorders and prepayment for GF donuts over the phone. I called about a month before our visit and ordered a dozen. Since they do the toppings on site, we picked those out when we picked them up.

This place is awesome. My husband was able to talk to the owner and confirmed their gf batter comes in at 11am so be ready at 11 to get your donut or else they will sell out! The gf donuts were cinnamon-y and delicious, they went perfectly with the vanilla glaze. The best part is if you don’t make it in time for a donut- you can always get a milkshake!

I ordered later on in the day and they had run out of gf donuts. You can reserve a stick to pick up. It is a first come first system. I ended up getting ice cream and they offered a gf cone and it was delicious.

The owner was not very understanding and kind about my celiac needs. He was getting annoyed with questions I asked and kept stating over and over that a reservation is needed for gluten-free donuts, making it difficult for me to get a donut. I still haven’t been able to get a donut after two days. I understand a reservation is needed but that makes it extremely difficult for those who want a donut.
Great place for donuts and ice cream. We have been there a couple times for both. The only negative was that you had to preorder the donuts. We were coming in for 2 weeks so we called the Friday we were leaving expecting we’d pick them up Sunday, but the earliest availability was Thursday. So this isn’t a “pop in and grab a donut” kind of place. I will also say that the gf donuts and the gf vegan donuts were 3-4x the price of the regular donuts, like $8/pop. We had to do the gf vegan to get the chocolate flavors as they aren’t listed on the straight gf options. Ice cream was Hersheys (the multi flavor soft serve machine was down every time we’ve popped in) and all those flavors are marked so that’s good. The donuts were remarkable and the ice cream was good and my daughter had no reaction so all in all a great place, just plan ahead…

This is an amazing donut establishment for celiacs! Delicious donuts and many flavors. Made in a separate gluten free facility and the owner is very knowledgeable. Very kind towards celiacs and assuring. Owner also shared some other safe local places! I ordered half a dozen variety and they are AWESOME!

I always hear about ducks donuts and other bakeries that seem to have good pastries but they aren’t gluten free! The donuts on a stick is a perfect alternative, and I believe they have regular too! We got our donuts today and ordered the coconut with vanilla glaze, cinnamon roll, white glaze, and fruity tootie (which came with fruity pebbles). All of them were delicious and we will be ordering from them again! My only tip is to call in store to see if they have gluten free or make an order the previous day so there is guarantee that they have gluten free in stock! The owner even gave us tips of where to eat for dinner that were celiac friendly! We had a great dinner at coastal cravings and Bernie’s Brothers!

Delicious cake style donuts. Must call ahead to order (we did a week in advance). Had heard the strawberry one was amazing but not a good choice unless you want to eat it right then (or it will get soggy and whip cream won’t last).

Our experience here was absolutely amazing. The staff was so incredibly friendly. David, the owner who was at the counter, was so easy to talk to. He immediately asked about allergies, before taking the order. My friend and I were there every day of our trip because we loved it so much. She ordered normal donuts, and I ordered GF and Vegan, as I have a gluten and dairy allergy. The donuts were spectacular, with so many options, including almost all of the flavors they have for their normal donuts (a rare occurrence). They are extremely cautious about allergies and even mark the outside of the container with GF and Vegan stickers. Be sure to order ahead of time, or get there immediately when they open, as they sell out quick!!!

We make sure to visit here everytime we go to the OBX, at least once. I always get the cappuccino crunch ice cream. I still can't believe it's GF. Their GF cones are delicious, too. My son has to be dairy-free and likes the raspberry sorbet and the vegan cookies and cream. The owner is always there and is super nice and understands your dietary needs.

Safely labeled and separately prepared GF donuts. Ice cream is labeled if it is GF. Lots of GF donut options, tasted great. Definitely felt safe eating here as it’s obvious they went the extra mile to accommodate. If you go, get the strawberry shortcake donut, it’s the best! Also has Vegan options, and a select few are GF and Vegan. Make sure to call ahead to check availability.

GF donuts are made off-site and require pre-ordering. However, due to recent fraud issues, they required in-person ordering and cash pre-payment days in advance (no exceptions - wouldn’t even take a check). Had to wait in long lines both to order and to pick up (no separate pick up area). Pretty inconvenient to have to go twice if you’re not staying in Duck. Daughter enjoyed the special treat, but it required a lot of leg work (not sure it was worth it TBH).
Pros: Lots of options (9-10 varieties) of GF donuts. Fun varieties we’ve not seen elsewhere. Cons: Like most food places in the OBX, it’s BUSY. May not have GF available at all. Go early and be sure to have cash.

They absolutely have high expectations of avoiding cross contamination. They ask that you call or walk in a day before because they order the gf doughnuts off site. THEY ALSO OFFER DAIRY FREE AND VEGAN OPTIONS!!! They walk you through how they handle the toppings, and are very cautious. I explained to them that this is a health issue and not a preference, and they said that was helpful to know and that they are glad to provide an option for people who need it on the island.

I appreciated having a donut option for myself and my daughter when the rest of the family was eating regular donuts. With that said, I probably wouldn't buy again. They tasted like mini spice cakes, not donuts. I ordered over the phone and didn't ask the price. I was shocked when I picked them up and it cost almost $20 for 4 donuts. Tullio's across the street had better GF options.

We went in on a whim on a Friday night & they happened to have 4 gf donuts left. We had called ahead to pre-order & the owner said they don’t have the staff currently to keep up with preorders, so they aren’t currently doing them. We ordered the maple glaze & the tootie fruity options. We had them for breakfast on Saturday morning. They were good. They’re a cake donut, not yeast, and baked, not fried.

The staff was very knowledgeable and friendly. After reading their online menu I came in and ordered ahead of time (I asked for gluten, dairy and tree nut free donut). I gave only 4 stars because I did not love the taste... These are not fried donuts so the dough consistency is weird (almost like uncooked donut) and it is way too sweet (maybe because I have been low carb for so long). Overall a very good experience, but not exactly what I have imagined.

Our daughter has a gluten allergy and dairy sensitivity. We were able to get sorbet in a gluten free sugar cone. They do have dairy free ice cream but that day it also had gluten. We also placed an order for gluten free donuts to be picked up the next day. The donuts were prepared off site at a safe facility, stored separately and then topped when we arrived. They were very tasty too! The staff was fantastic and answered all of our questions.

The gf donuts are made off site and brought in separate containers. They were heated in a microwave and then glazed/topped. The donuts had good flavor but are somewhat crumbly. We were told they also make gf ice cream cakes but they were all booked up for this week.

Gluten free ice cream and gluten free cones! When I told them I have celiac they scooped ice cream from a fresh container.
Must order donuts in advance. It’s all over their website and reviews. So I’m not sure how people are still missing it. Honestly I was unimpressed with the donuts. I’ve made better on my own. The staff was knowledgeable about gluten free but rude or very badly delivered sarcasm when I asked to change gloves and double check. I saw no signs in the store about gluten free and ice cream didn’t look safe. But I didn’t feel comfortable asking about it after the rude comment when asking to change gloves. If you want a treat and don’t mind it being very sweet and like cake in the form of a circle go for it we are very sensitive and didn’t get sick at all. However If you want a yeast donut this is not for you.

Great fit for my gf, df, nf family! Stumbled upon this store while shopping. (A great allergen friendly alternative to the famous "Duck Donuts"). You do need to order head for gf and vegan. Menus online. They happened to have extra the day we were there. Donuts were delicious, and leftovers kept until the next morning. Staff knowledgeable. GF were prepared in a separate area. For nut-free, I watched them clean the prep area first. Then my nf child was able to get hot donuts, a real treat. Also have ice cream with GF labels.
Ordered donuts for my GF celiac husband in July 2020. He was pretty excited to have them as he hadn’t eaten donuts in 20+ years. These donuts are made in a dedicated fryer at another location, so they have to be trucked in. Still, if you are willing to wait a few days, awesome donuts!
