Gelato Messina

Was told by their staff that their gelatos are all processed in the same machine, so even though there are several GF options that there is risk of cross contamination. Watched my whole family happily eat, but I did not order.

We are regulars. They are happy wash the scoop, answer questions. There is a small risk of CC in production of ice creams (although only 2-3 of their flavours contain any gluten). Have been told to try the sorbets as safest. Our coeliac teen eats here once a week. Never an issue!!!

I had a really pleasant experience at Messina in Surry Hills. I asked for the raspberry sorbet and double checked if it was gluten free. She confirmed this, and asked if I was coeliac. I said yes, and she went and got a brand new, clean ice cream scoop. She double checked if I knew that everything was made in the same factory, so there’s risk of cross-contamination, which I did but I appreciated being informed. The cones are not gluten free so I had it in a cup. I have had the mango sorbet and the raspberry sorbet and have felt fine both times afterward. I would definitely come back here, considering how mindful and helpful this staff member was.

Asked about gluten free flavours and were provided with a list of allergens for each individual flavour and were informed that of course like any other non gf dedicated venue that they couldn’t provide us with a guarantee of no cross contamination. However, the worker went out of her way to go out the back to open a fresh tub of the flavour and served the gf flavour prior to the rest of the family’s order.
