Edit 2/24: I can no longer recommend this place at all. It’s physically pretty dirty inside and today my celiac kids plate came out with what appeared to be chicken tender breading mixed in with his fries. They’re not taking any precautions, and frankly even as a gluten eater I think it’s pretty gross to have chicken mixed into my fries that I didn’t order. Clearly no longer sticking to a dedicated fryer. We’re sad to lose this as a local option.
They’ve removed the separate GF menu, but the options still exist. My family eats here probably 2-3 times a month and has never gotten sick. All the burgers and sandwiches can be served on a GF bun/bread. The last time we checked they still had a dedicated fryer. This last time we were told for the first time in 4 years that the sweet potato fries aren’t GF. My son has eaten them consistently each time and this is the first time it’s been mentioned. What they don’t have is consistent wait staff, and some are definitely better informed than others. When in doubt, ask the manager on duty.
Gf menu and a dedicated fryer! Meal was delivered on a bright red plate by the manager. No idea what buns they are using but my son actually panicked and thought he was eating gluten- and that a pretty big compliment! I wish they’d include a GF desert item and more breakfast items of the pancake/waffle variety.
I had a cheese and onion omelette which was huge. A little skimpy on the onions. I did not take the gf bread which was offered but I took the fresh fruit bowl. I have also had a lettuce wrapped cheeseburger which was very good. With fruit again. I’m sure I will go back. The rest of the family is not gf and they enjoyed their salads and sandwiches.
Edit Dec 2021: Last 2 visits I was glutened. Beware! Never had a problem here. Great food, good service, friendly staff. One star reduction for the prices - a bit high for what it is. Edit: I have added the 5th star since all other restaurants seem to have increased their prices because of COVID, but looks like Haymaker did not. A better value now. One of my favorite places!
So I think COVID has hit this restaurant hard. The last review was Oct. 2020 and they’ve must have made a lot of changes since then. They no longer have an exclusive GF fryer and they’ve cut corners on the food. I had a grilled cheese and a peach salad that was decent and I didn’t get sick (which is why I gave them 3 stars) but was super disappointed b/c of all the amazing reviews below about how everything fried can be GF.
As someone with Celiac Disease whenever there is a dedicated gluten free fryer in a restaurant that is golden. The gluten free menu consisted of pages with choices of food, sometimes the gluten free menu has pages but the choices are limited and the rest of the information list the other allergens in the food. I do have other allergies and the kitchen was able to work with them. The gluten free food is served on a red plate which is reassuring that everyone is aware. I went at lunch and had a hamburger with sweet potato fries which was delicious and the gluten free bun didn't crumble and fall apart. I can't wait to go back to try out the rest of the menu! This was a great find!
We tried this restaurant. I'm celiac and ordered the wings. Gluten free fryer and new mixing bowls for the sauce. No symptoms. My non celiac companion had the burger, fries ( reported gf and use gf fryer) and slaw. Wait staff was able to answer all of my questions, friendly and without judgement. Will definitely return when in this area again.
We love haymaker. Very knowledgeable about celiacs disease. Gluten free food comes out in a red plate. They have a full separation gluten free menu. My child with celiacs disease has not gotten sick once. We went today with our new nima gluten sensor. Unfortunately my sons food came up gluten detected. They were very nice but expressed they cannot guarantee cross contamination. Needless to say they remade my sons food and it came back safe.
My fav gf breakfast!! They have a full menu for it! And it's all great food!
This is one of our favorite go-to places now that we've moved to the far northwest corner of the valley. Great food. Great service. My husband loves that they carry Omission beers. And we all love the food. It's not a gourmet restaurant. It's a great little American diner. My daughter is celiac and our entire family has been eating GF for so long that we'll all experience some unpleasantness whenever we eat any gluten. We've all eaten here multiple times and never had any problems.
Great service and I loved that I had a good size GF menu to choose from. Got the steak sandwich and it was amazing. Cooked perfectly, tender and tasty! All GF plates come on a different colored plate which makes me feel even better. I will for sure be coming back!
I've eaten here 4 times now and loved it every time. I feel like every server I've had genuinely cared about keeping my food gluten free.
The atmosphere and service were great. There is a good selection of gluten free options, including breakfast. They understand issues related to cross-contamination and try to avoid it, like using a separate toaster. Unfortunately, the food was average in flavor. Everyone in our party of six felt the same way. In addition, the food is over-priced for what you get. I ordered a steakhouse salad and it was essentially bagged lettuce with bottled dressing (poor in taste) and a tough, flavorless piece of steak. It's advertised as tenderloin, but that is not what was served. I'd rate that meal a 3 out of 10. Those who ate the burgers weren't impressed either. We were glad to find a gluten free restaurant in the West Valley, but honestly, we'll drive to the east side to get a better tasting meal for the same price. For a dollar more I can eat a beef tenderloin cobb salad that is to die for at the White Chocolate Grill.
Service was poor compared to the first time I went there. Last time, the manager came out and was amazing. This time, the server was clearly annoyed when I asked questions about cross contamination. Disappointed that I was treated like a nuisance rather than him just explaining the cooking process. Really bummed.
Had lunch there today. One of the better GF menus that I have seen, Including Breakfast. Food was great and the service could not have been better.
Very impressed with the service at The Haymaker. Delicious food with good GF options. As well as a GF beer on the menu.
We've had awesome GF experiences at this little gem of a restaurant! Awesome atmosphere and awesome food!
