Great experience at Home State with celiac daughter. I told the person taking my order that she has a gluten intolerance and they have a “gluten allergy” button in their POS system that flags which tacos need to be made with that in mind. They changed gloves and made her tacos in a separate area. They do make their flour tortillas in-house so anyone worried about flour in the air, etc. should keep that in mind. I felt very confident with the safety protocol that they have in place. I was told that if you want to place an order online, since there isn’t a place to make notes, to call the store and ask to speak with a MANAGER (not just the person picking up the phone) right after placing the order online to explain your particular situation. Great service and a lot of useful information given. Dedicated fryer for their potatoes. Chips and queso are also GF. Most everything is GF except their flour tortillas and the brisket, which is braised with beer.
I ate here in August 2023 and didn’t get sick. My friend called ahead to ask if they could accommodate severe food allergies & celiac disease – they said yes, and to talk to the cashier when we arrived for options because the menu isn’t marked with GF items.
The cashier knew what celiac disease was right away, which is always a good sign. They have flour tortillas, and the brisket is marinated in beer, but other than that everything should be GF. Currently, the potatoes are the only things they cook in the deep fryer, so the potato tacos are safe. But, always ask about the fryer because the cashier let me know they’ve had gluten menu items in the past that have been deep fried in the fryer, so it might not always be safe.
I had three tacos total and felt totally fine! No symptoms the day after either, so it’s safe to say I was definitely not glutened. I’d eat here again.
