Despite careful questions, I got sick. I also suffered from a meal that wasn’t good. No thanks

Worst glutening I’ve had. Not sure if it was sauce or tempura. Ordered sushi/ sashimi for 2 with specifically a gluten allergy. When tempora came in one of the rolls I had the server check with the kitchen that it was ok. Only used tamari sauce.
It was not ok...
No
They do really well with allergies. Menu is marked and both times server was knowledgeable. They have gf tamari sauce and yum yum sauce that's safe. The portions are huge. We were very pleased with our experience both times.
Kazu’s owner and staff and Celiac and gluten intolerant knowledgeable and very accommodating. They will modify the rolls and dishes and they always have Tamari on hand. They taught me that Tabiko and Krab were not safe for Celiacs. The sushi is always very fresh too. This is my favorite sushi place!

Initially I gave them five stars because they seemed knowledgeable but we stopped going there a while back after getting an obviously not gluten-free meal and the attitude when I tried to get it fixed. We had been frequent customers and I had tried to be as cooperative, polite, and informative as possible so I was a bit shocked over the attitude we got when I was served rolls with crunch and tried to get it fixed. It was something I had ordered in the past and was given it prepared without crunch so the attitude and blame was shocking. There were other signs that I had minimized, for example their soy sauce bottle they just replaced it with a lid from a non gluten-free product at that point I stopped using it. I started to pay attention and the bottle never was replaced nor did it ever seem to get empty.

Given some of the past reviews and my celiac diagnosis, I was really concerned about going to this restaurant, but they took excellent care of me. The waitress was knowledgeable about celiac and was able to tell us which rolls and dishes were celiac-friendly. The kitchen and sushi chefs were willing to make anything celiac-friendly by not adding problematic ingredients (such as shrimp replacing shrimp tempura). The waitress immediately brought over well-labeled GF tamari sauce without my having to ask for it. We enjoyed a specialty roll, mixed sushi platter, and fried rice (they cook it in completely separate pans), and we were given GF soup and salad dressings. My one (tiny) complaint is that they only had one GF salad dressing, and it was ranch, which is unexpected in a Japanese restaurant. Overall, excellent and safe dining experience with good food and knowledgeable staff.

My waiter didn't really know much about gluten free options, just said I could have "things that aren't fried and sauce on the side" because she didn't know if the sauces were gfree. She had to ask someone this, and they didn't really know either. I ordered rolls without an issue but was disappointed that the staff wasn't as knowledgeable as others say.
I was so impressed with their knowledge about gluten and the food was incredible! They were able to modify dishes and I was even able to try several unique fish options flown in fresh from Japan. The sushi chefs wore gloves which gave me even greater confidence about the reduced risk of cross contamination.

Delicious sushi and beautiful ambiance. They were very knowledgeable about gluten free options and went through the menu with me when I said I was "gluten free." And gluten free soy sauce!
Best, freshest, highest quality sushi in Jacksonville. Offers San-J Tamari sauce. Server was fairly knowledgeable about which items were not gluten free (i.e., miso soup). **Quick note - be sure to order spicy tuna roll WITHOUT tempura crunch.
