This is the first time I’ve gone out since having to become gluten-free for medical reasons. The staff were very helpful and I loved that everything that was breaded and fried was gluten free. Pretty much any sandwich can be made gluten free for no extra cost as well as nearly every pasta for just $2. My server also made sure to double check that the kitchen had given me the correct bun before giving me my food. Food was delicious and I will definitely be returning to try more of their menu.

Sadly after 4 years of loving GF squeaky cheese and Champaign battered fish I have to turn my back forever. 2 trips in March & April 2022 both ended up in severe contamination. Management claims no changes to cooking. So sad.

My husband and I are celiac. We are passing through this area and thought to stop and give it a try. They have a designated fryer. Our waiter was very knowledgeable and friendly. Fun atmosphere as well

This place was awesome! Almost all of the meals can be made gluten free and they have dedicated fryers for fries and gluten free cheese curds. Can’t wait to come back here!

This in my opinion is the best, safest restaurant in Des Moines. I also like when I have the option of getting an appetizer, meal, and dessert because having celiac your lucky to just get a gluten free meal. I love the calamari, fish and chips, tacos, poutine, and the flourless chocolate tart.

Always great food. Great service and super knowledgeable staff. We love love love Louie’s. They have staples we love but we can always find something new to try too! The Buffalo cauliflower recently made my favorites list here. I am Celiac and I have never had an issue here.

Visiting Des Moines and saw positive reviews for Louie's. With the pandemic, I am still not comfortable eating in restaurants and wanted to have food delivered to the hotel. I called the restaurant to confirm that the fish and chips were fried in a dedicated fryer and was met with a resounding YES! The person I spoke to was very confident about it and I asked if it was safe for Celiacs and he said several people who work there have Celiac. Somehow that made me feel even better that they knew what they were doing. Ordered through a delivery service and the food arrived hot and crisp. It was 3 huge pieces of fish, and very delicious. Good fries too, and the dipping sauce was yummy. No gluten reaction here, just delish fried food!

So awesome, so glad we went here! Lots of fun wines, excellent GF calamari and fish-and-chips and they even made the fried chicken sandwich GF so I could share my husband’s!

OMG!!!! Can you please come to Minneapolis???? One of the best calamari dishes I’ve ever had. The funky chicken sandwich was excellent and made gluten free so my celiac wife could taste it. Her fish and chips were amazing!! And the fries? Perfect. We will return!

Louie’s is my favorite place to go for lunch OR dinner. Almost everything on the menu can be made gf. The staff is very knowledgeable and the food is good.
Yes
Absolutely love Louie’s Wine Dive!! Dinner is the largest selection for gluten free options - calamari, cheese curds, beer, pasta, etc. Brunch was unfortunately a small gluten free menu and the portion size was the same. I’d just recommend dinner.

We love this place. My Celiac husband has eaten there many times so we felt safe and took our very sensitive daughter. She also enjoyed a meal without getting sick. It’s our go-to place when we are in DSM.

It’s so worth it for the fried foods!

LOVE the cheese curds!!! I wanted ravioli, but they don’t make gf ravioli so they gave me the insides with penne noodles.. so good!

Best gluten free place in all of the Des Moines area!!!
I am celiac and ate here and the food was the best I've had during my time in Iowa. I didn't worry about getting "glutened" and was totally fine after eating with no reaction or even a rash so they were amazing handling celiac.
I had rabbit with red beet risotto and my boyfriend and I couldn't get enough of the pecan brussels sprouts. Coming from Boston, I hadn't come across any restaurant in Iowa that could compare to some of the food from back home but Louie's Wine Dive topped the list for any restaurant I've ever eaten at. I would highly recommend and will definitely come again!

I liked it enough. I got the chips and guacamole which was great and beautifully plated. For main course I tried the fish and chips. I got 3 strips of fish with a tiny bed of fries in a small bowl. After all that and 2 glasses of wine I was still hungry. For $44 I want to be full. Seemed celiac friendly and the decor was hip.

This is our FAVORITE GF restaurant! All the dishes we have tried have been fantastic with the added bonus of a wide ranging wine selection. Street tacos, fish & chips, and Sinatra burger are all good choices...but you will not be disappointed with other menu items. Staff is wonderful!

I stopped at 2pm on. Friday 11/10/2017. Their door was locked. The sign says they're open from 11am until 11pm. I assume they have closed?
All options easily marked on menu. Staff were super helpful and knowledgeable. Cute spot, love music, amazing fish and chips.

The cheese curds are a must have, and the wine list was extensive.

This is our go-to spot in the neighborhood! Safe for me & my son (celiac) and my daughter (NCGS)

I love the fish and chips!! Great service, delicious food and comfy atmosphere. I've never had a problem there and I am very sensitive to gluten.

Excellent GF fish & chips. Been a long time since I have found a place that served GF fish & chips. Very accommodating. Server asked if GF was a preference or an allergy.

You can have cheese curds again! This place never disappoints. They have a great selection for all of us gluten free, it's always hard to choose!
I have Celiac. Food is great and so is the staff. I never react.
amazing...very safe...cheese curds awesome and the bacon jam is to die for...

Awesome place! Very GF knowledgeable and helpful, very worth the stop!
Very knowledgeable and considerate. All but a few items can be made gluten free. Owner told us that the fryers are dedicated gluten free and their fries were amazing!

Almost everything can be made gluten free. Amazing pasta and salads!
They had knowledgable staff and both dairy free and gluten free options right on the regular menu! No special menu needed. I felt normal, not weird!
I believe this is a restaurant you could feel confidant going to and it be gluten free. Although I wasn't overly thrilled with the restaurant, I felt safe eating there. Rice flour breaded fish is hard to pass up for celiac friendly public dining.

They are very knowledgable and have many fresh made to order choices! I love the above the average menu items like GF Macaroni and Cheese w/ Lobster. Fish and Chips!!! OMG! So many choices.
I had the chicken picatta, to go. The ticket wasn’t marked gf, and the person ringing me up said it was gf. I asked “All the time?” He said, I think so. I told him I had to know for sure, so he asked another of the wait staff who said, it was always gf. I had low confidence but took it with me anyway. Got it home and the only taste it had was vaguely cajun blackened spice. A lemon on the side. Definitely not chicken picatta, and no where good enough to risk it.
I’ve also had the gf fish and chips here. I really, really wanted that to be good, but it is always hard (not crispy) and burned. And the fries are limp and greasy.
The food just isn’t worth the risk. I won’t go back.
