The menu states that everything except the flour tortillas is gluten free. When I called, I was told, everything is gluten free. When I asked if the flour tortillas are prepared separately from the other foods, I was told, "Oooh, well if you are sensitive to gluten, then no, our foods are not gluten free." This establishment misleads customers. In fact, there is one cooking surface and one fryer, so everything is contaminated with gluten, including the chips. There is no reason for this restaurant to pretend to be gluten free or any more gluten friendly than any other restaurant because it is not.
I’ve been to two locations. While I haven’t gotten sick, I did get very bad information from the wait staff at the 183 location. First my waiter very confidently told me the chips were cooked in a dedicated fryer. Then he told me the enchiladas were definitely GF and prepared on a safe surface. But then the manager came over and told me she has a gluten intolerance and would NOT eat the chips or the enchiladas. In the end I changed my order to be to-go, since it was already in the works, and took it home to eat in case I did get sick. I didn’t, but due to the uncertainty of the staff I will not go back to that location.
No dedicated fryer for chips. Menu is listed as all gluten free or being able to have a gluten free replacement, but items without replacements have a wheat looking logo. The waiter was not familiar with items being celiac safe. She warned me there was a risk of cross contamination.
My daughter is celiac and the menu is mostly gluten-free. The chips are not recommended for celiac due to cross contamination. Customer service are very knowledgeable on food allergies and notified us when substitution was needed. Tortillas stayed together and they offered appetizer and dessert options. Food tasted amazing, you couldn’t even tell it was gluten free!
Good food. No reaction. Gluten info is a little confusing. Items that can’t be made gluten free are marked.
I ordered Barbaco beef tacos w/ corn tortillas. The corn tortillas were the softer fluffy style, thought they were flour at first. But they were corn, and I did not have a reaction. I’m very sensitive to cross contamination.
Was even able to enjoy the chips and salsa!
Lupe Tortilla is delicious and has the best ever corn tortillas!
Despite speaking with the kitchen manager and assured my items were GF, I got very sick for cross contamination. The waiter didn’t know what celiac or gluten was, probably a language barrier. Regardless, kitchen manager was aware and assured me of my selections. I’ve tested this out over several visits and every time I get sick. It’s unfortunate since my family loves this place and food tastes awesome, but not worth the hours of pain and sickness that follows. I won’t be back unless I just order water and even then it’s a risk that they touch your glass with hands that just touched a gluten item.
