The food is fabulous, but I am really bothered with not being able to eat the chips at a Mexican restaurant. To me, that’s half the fun of eating there is enjoying chips and salsa prior to the meal arriving! When we ate there this week, the server told me that since the chips are fried in a shared fryer with the desserts that contain gluten, they are not considered safe for allergy or celiac. :( bummer!
We had to leave because I was told there was nothing 100% gluten free besides a salad. The chips share a fryer with gluten products and the corn tortillas are made and warmed on the same grill surface as flour tortillas. Gluten friendly but not celiac safe
My experience here was outstanding. When I told our server that my wheat/gluten allergy is life-threatening, she explained that most of the menu can be modified safely and anything that cannot be modified is marked directly on the menu. She then brought out the chef who explained that they wipe down surfaces when handling allergy meals and they prepare the food separate from the flour tortillas. She also double checked the sauce ingredients just to make triple sure my meal was safe. The manager also came out later to check in and make sure everything was right. I got the lunch portion green chicken enchiladas and felt like a little piece of me was back after many long years of not being able to find a Mexican restaurant I felt safe to eat at. I will be back!
Good food. No reaction. Gluten info is a little confusing. Items that can’t be made gluten free are marked.
I ordered Barbaco beef tacos w/ corn tortillas. The corn tortillas were the softer fluffy style, thought they were flour at first. But they were corn, and I did not have a reaction. I’m very sensitive to cross contamination.
Was even able to enjoy the chips and salsa!
Lupe Tortilla is delicious and has the best ever corn tortillas!
Despite speaking with the kitchen manager and assured my items were GF, I got very sick for cross contamination. The waiter didn’t know what celiac or gluten was, probably a language barrier. Regardless, kitchen manager was aware and assured me of my selections. I’ve tested this out over several visits and every time I get sick. It’s unfortunate since my family loves this place and food tastes awesome, but not worth the hours of pain and sickness that follows. I won’t be back unless I just order water and even then it’s a risk that they touch your glass with hands that just touched a gluten item.
