Years ago I would get glutened but the restaurant really stepped up their gluten free protocols. Menu is clearly marked now and staff are careful. I’ve eaten there a dozen times in the past 3 months and have had no issues.

If you say gluten free they change their gloves, prepare it in a separate area and clean the area. They do not have a separate fryer and will substitute tamari for soy sauce.

It was phenomenal! My friend from Taiwan said the quality reminded her of her childhood. Everything was delicious, the waitress explained everything, and they had a lot of gluten free options. Would recommend.

While they do not have a gluten free menu, the wait staff - entire staff- is very knowledgeable and conscious of which items have gluten. Be sure to let your server know!

Not a dedicated menu but their regular menu has items indicated as GF. Server was very knowledgeable and made suggestions and worked with others in our group to accommodate allergies. Great sushi and extensive selections.

Meh. Didn’t get violently ill but I have a terrible headache the next day so definitely was glutened.
They mark their items gluten free and also say how you can make an item gf. We told our waitress that we’re gf and stressed that it’s because of celiac so it’s serious. We were reassured that they take it very seriously. But my brother ordered the seaweed salad (not gf) and the waitress said nothing like “you know it’s not gf” which worried me a little. We decided to go with one of the meals and the one thing it said to remove to make it gf was the tomago so you can imagine my disappointment when the last course came and the tomago was sitting on my plate…
Next time I go, I will stick to things that are gf already since I can’t trust them to take off the ingredients that contain gluten.

Fantastic sushi. I asked for tamari, which is gluten free soy sauce. They had it and it was in a different container than regular soy sauce. Their menu clearly marks gf items.

Delicious sushi however limited selection and got glutened there. Very disappointed that a fancy restaurant does not have GF soy sauce.

The staff is extremely knowledgeable about what is and isn’t gluten free. Never had any problems there. Culinary experience for sure.

Love this place, and they are super great with my 4 yr old gluten-free son. The sushi is really fresh and is just as good as anything I had in SF. They have gluten free soy sauce (tamari) and if told can make most nigiri gf. The futomaki can be gluten free as can the salmon roll.
Not safe for allergy or celiac. No gf menu. One item was pointed out as safe because it has “just a little” gluten. Very few gf items unless you strictly want sashimi and edamame. The waiter never offered gf soy sauce and he wasn’t back at the table in a reasonable time for us to ask. Our rolls came out with big gaps in time between them. Probably a full 5-8 minutes passed between first and last plate out. The roll I was told was gf had fried crumbles on it. When I questioned it the waiter asked the chef and the answer was that it was gf because it was fried all the way through and any gluten would be cooked out of it. I didn’t eat it after that nonsense explanation. I had a couple pieces of my sons tuna roll and then was thankful that Whole Foods had a table at DPAC with gf foods.

No dedicated gluten free menu. No real idea as to what gluten free means. The staff attempted to point out items that were “safe”. “This item contains just a little gluten” Stayed with what should be safe. When dinner arrived there was crumbled over the roll that was “safe”. The crumbles were reported as onions. When re questioned if they were fried with other wheat containing items. We were told that they contained no gluten because they “were cooked all the way through which releases all the gluten” and this gluten free. The meal went uneaten:-(

I've been here twice now and it is the best sushi I've had outside of California. The rice is perfect. Our server was knowledgeable and directed me to what I could order. They will make the futomaki roll gf but aren't willing to customize their special rolls. There are lots of nigiri options and they are delicious.
This place is amazing! I have Celiac and was extremely comfortable here. They have changed things in the kitchen so that only GF soy sauce is used. They still have regular soy sauce on the table so you will need to ask for that. My waiter was very knowledgeable and checked with the chef on everything. The quality of fish is incredible, the fresh wasabi is so good you can eat it straight. I can't say enough about this place. GO! It is a little hard to find since you can't see it from the street. It's on the back corner of the building at 309 East Chapel Hill Street, just go down the hill on the east side of the building and it's on your left.
