This specific Mikuni (in the Fountains) is great. The other one across town used to handle allergies well, but recently has not. Good variety on separate gf menu (make sure to specify allergy), comes out flagged, and has gf soy sauce and teriyaki.
Gluten feee menu is small, but there are options (appetizers, sashimi, rolls). Was able to request a side of gluten free soy sauce, and didn’t have any issues with the wasabi. Have also visited the Downtown and Arden locations and never had an issue. Staff seem knowledgeable and were helpful.
Husband ordered his usual, and I got my GF rolls (avocado & cucumber, negihama & green onion) and GF nigiri. Separate wasabi and GF soy sauce. We each got Moscow mules.
Pros: Dedicated gluten-free menu, waiter asked if it was an allergy or preference. The food came out clearly marked as gluten free.
Cons: The GF rolls are tiny (which is why I ordered 3 items to get full). I still ended up sick, and I can’t figure out if it was from the food, if the wasabi was contaminated as a previous poster pointed out, or if it was the drink.
Unfortunately, definitely not celiac-friendly. I ordered chirashi, which the waitress assured me was extremely easy to make gluten-free (hence why I asked for it). Been sick since then (2 days later). 2 likely sources: The chefs added tamagoyaki to the chirashi, which is typically made with soy sauce, and the wasabi likely had soy sauce (neither made fresh with GF soy sauce). Really bummed, was hoping to find GF sushi in Sac.
Our favorite GF meal. GF menu. Never had an issue. Love this place.
Great service. I asked for the gluten free menu and said it was for an allergy and the waitress was quick to reassure me that they would take good care of me, and they did. Got Salmon Nigiri and GF soy sauce and it was delicious (a little expensive, but worth it for the great quality). It even came out with a little stick that said "allergy" on it, which was very reassuring. I didn't have any problems with cross contamination either. I highly recommend this place.
The food was fine if a bit bland. I had teriyaki chicken that came with white rice and a small salad. Was very light on the sauce so it mostly was just a piece of chicken with rice and salad. Meh.
On the other hand they seemed very knowledgeable about the allergy situation. They have a dedicated GF menu and they said everything was prepared separately. Things were clearly labeled and I did not react.
Small gluten free menu. Really liked that the food came out flagged gluten free. Staff were nice and very understanding. Food was great!
