I normally have good luck with the GF menu. But last two times I’ve eaten at outback I have gotten really sick. 1) was the mashed potatoes on gf menu 2) was chicken
We asked for a GF menu before the receptionist seated us and she promptly added it to my husband's regular menu. Our waitress seemed very familiar with GF requirements. The GF menu lacked prices and portion sizes, but my husband read them to me; and the waitress also volunteered the sizes available for the filet I ordered. When my husband's fries arrived rather overdone, she brought him a fresh batch before he started on them! The manager overheard us discussing the food and chatted with us a while. The grilled asparagus, just the right tenderness with a nice bite to it, was smoked over oak wood. Our filet and hamburger were cooked med. rare and medium just as ordered and deliciously smoky. The manager explained that the GF menus were printed for the use of the nationwide chain, which varied in pricing and steak portions by region. My husband suggested each GF menu be accompanied by a local menu for more details. We certainly would eat there again.
The new location was not good, all the food in the order was just off.
I have a severe gluten allergy, and I’m thankful that Outback offers a gluten-free menu. I've dined here several times when Andy was the owner and never had any issues. However, since he left, the restaurant’s quality has significantly declined. On October 19th, my friends and I visited for lunch. I requested a gluten-free menu from the host, and when we were seated, I immediately informed our waitress about my severe gluten allergy. She assured me there would be no issues.
I ordered strictly from the gluten-free menu: grilled shrimp (no seasoning), a Caesar salad (no croutons), and a sweet potato. When the Caesar salad arrived, I noticed crouton pieces in it—this is a major issue for someone with a severe gluten allergy. Thankfully, I hadn’t eaten any yet, but our waitress didn’t return for a long time, so I had to watch my friends eat their appetizers and salads while I waited.
When the waitress finally returned, she didn’t seem to treat the issue seriously at all. Then, the shrimp arrived—ice cold and mushy. It was unpleasant. I had to ask the manager for a discount due to the nearly gluten-contaminated salad and the cold, unappetizing shrimp. Needless to say, I won’t be returning. If I could give zero stars, I would.
