Love eating at pier 22, the managers comes out to verify your order is safe with you and talks to you about the steps they do to ensure safety. Have been here a few times and only got sick once- due to the chips. The waitress told me the balsamic chip appetizer was GF in its own fryer but she didn’t know it was then tossed into a gluten fryer (don’t know why they do that). The bun for the burgers comes out like a sandwich bun but it still tastes good. Will definitely be back.
I've eaten here quite a few times and I've had no issues. The owners kid is gluten free so they take a lot of precautions. Things are marked gluten free and they have been great about telling me what is possibly at risk of cross contamination. Decent choices although I don't care for the salads as they are pretty soggy everytime. The osso bucco is hit or miss. Great view and ambiance.
GF items marked on the menu. My server was very knowledgeable about the safe options and asked if I was Celiac or not. For food allergies, they involve the manager on duty to ensure kitchen staff is aware and take proper precautions! They had GF bread to give me while I waited for my food, it was delicious! I had the pork osso buco for dinner with mashed potatoes and asparagus, everything was delicious.
A week ago I went to the restaurant again, after about 10 months, and I had a different experience so I have updated the review. This time the waitress told me she was not allowed to take my order if I had Celiac Disease, it had to be the manager. In a short time, the manager came to my table explained the gluten-free options, and took my order. The manager seemed very knowledgeable about their gluten-free options. I ordered the crab cakes which I thought were good and I didn't get sick. They also brought me their homemade gluten-free bread which was terrific. I now have confidence the food is gluten-free and safe.
The following is the review from 10 months ago. The waiter seemed to have very little knowledge about how safe the food was. I asked to talk to the manager who had more knowledge but she still needed to check with the head chef about some of the food I ordered. I tried to do a simple plain meal so I ordered the grilled cod with roasted potatoes and steamed asparagus. The food tasted okay and I didn't get sick but I have very little confidence that the food is safe so I will not be going back to this restaurant.
They are careful and the manager does take your order to speak with the chef directly. However, it seemed like they were uncomfortable and unaware of really what was GF. Items are marked on the menu even though there was confusion. Was told that nothing from the bar was GF besides wine or Tito’s. Couldn’t tell me what was in the sangria. Not quite sure how to recommend but if you have a lot of patience you’ll do fine here. I had the GF crab cakes. A little mushy but good flavor.
We stopped here and were welcomed with open arms. When the waiter heard we needed GF the manager took over for our order. He was knowledgeable and even started us out with some nice warm bread while we waited for our apps. Dinner was awesome. Zero issues. They had our full trust! I’d go back often if I lived in the area!
I really enjoy eating at the pier. They are so careful and have a dedicated area just for celiacs. The manager comes out and talks to you and talks to the kitchen and make sure she brings out your food! Nice menu and even gluten free bread. It’s appears to be very safe and I trust them with my food!
Wonderful! Great gluten free bread basket brought to the table complete with herbed butter! Never have I been to a restaurant that offers this! Bread had a nice chew and crust, too!! So rare. I also had the cauliflower flatbread crust with chicken, bacon, artichoke and fontina cheese! It was amazing. I have celiac and always visit Pier 22 in the area. They are knowledgable and I’ve never gotten sick. Highly recommend!!
Just a heads up…. I was SO excited to try the Poutine ( it’s been years) and homemade chips on the appetizer menu, they are both marked GF. Upon ordering I reaffirmed with the waitress and she informed me that they are both fried in the same fryer as everything else so cross contamination is a possibility. Soooo disappointed and surprised it had the GF symbol next to it on the menu. That being said, they do bake GF bread every morning and the sandwich was good.
Great experience. Very knowledgeable and took extra precautions when preparing my food.
This place is top notch!! The staff is very knowledgeable about Celiac and the menu has so many options! I got the crab cake dinner with corn risotto and asparagus, OUT OF THIS WORLD! I haven’t had grab cakes I’m years. The manger brought my meal out and assured it was GF. I’ll be back!
Upscale dining along the water. Lots of GF options, and chef was able to modify some other options to be safe as well. We got GF focaccia in lieu of traditional bread. We made meal of appetizers and salads, but there are lots more meal options as well. Sushi was excellent. We also tried GF crab cakes, and GF flatbreads. All very yummy! We will definitely come back!
A nice selection of gluten free items. The gluten free bread was really nice! They do not have a separate fryer for the fries but they make there own potatoes chips, which is made in a separate fryer. Beautiful view and friendly staff.
Yes, they have wonderful gluten free bread and some of the items are GF. But the manger explained to us that while they have a separate fryer in the back they can’t say it’s dedicated GF as it’s also used for non GF. Even though multiple servers told us it’s GF the manager told us how it actually works and said she would speak to the staff to clarify. It’s very misleading on the menu. They say GF means gluten free but based on the explanation it’s really gluten friendly. My advice is always ask to speak with the manager before ordering as the menu and servers might not be as aware regarding cross contamination.
Service wasn't great. The food was good, but not impressed with portions for the price. The view was nice, but service was quite slow for a not busy night. The balsamic chips are not gluten free (as another reviewer said) and the menu is diverse with many clearly labeled gf options.
We ate here Christmas Eve night and, for some reason, they were understaffed. Sat on the patio, so the view was nice and the evening was gorgeous. As a gluten free vegetarian, I find it really hard to eat a lot of places. The thing I miss the most if pizza - good pizza with a chewy crust. Pier22 makes their own crust - and it is AMAZING! Part of me was hoping (when I asked the server) I would get the name of a brand. That way I could order it on line. Knowledgeable wait and kitchen staff at this place and that's not only rare but impressive.
Ate here for our anniversary and were beyond pleased with the food, wait staff and atmosphere. We had their balsamic chips as an appetizer and I wanted to lick the plate clean! I had a Mediterranean salad with scallops that practically melted in my mouth. There were many gluten free choices. We may have to eat here again before returning home...they were just that good!!
Delicious gluten free food. I am celiac and had no problem eating here. It is lovely and the food was outstanding. I ordered the Seabass.
The food tastes homemade! The first time I came, I asked the server if the chef could use the gluten free bread from the Cuban sandwich for the baked French onion soup, and they did! It was outstanding! I had the Asian lettuce wraps and baked French onion soup the first time, and both were so good I had to come back. My second trip I had the baked French onion soup, Thai Beef, and creme brûlée! The Thai Beef wasn't listed as being gluten free, but the chef made it special for me.
Kellen, our server, was excellent!!! He went out of his way to accommodate me! 😍
Great atmosphere right on the bay. Excellent location with large covered patio seating. We spent our time watching the boats sail by. Very traditional menu and lots of gluten free options. We ate there twice in two days. Loved the Cuban sandwich and blackened Grouper sandwich too which was not on the menu but made upon request. For dinner we had Mahi mahi, a delicious half chicken and a nice sea bass entree. Prices are high -guess you pay for the location.
This restaurant was amazing, they serve many gf options including a faltbread Cuban sandwhich...the restaurant is of very nice fine dining quality dinner you are looking very pricey...price ranges of food from about 6 to 30 dollars it's on the water and the waitstaff was very pleasant and great! I will definitely be returning, so happy to see so many places be going more and more gf, my daughter had gf pizza for 6.50 was probably around 10-12 inch size was quite large for a children's gf pizza.
