The fryer is GF only! Everything fried is GF! This place is paradise!!!!! The menu is so very clearly marked, and almost everything is GF.
Amazing!! New ownership by Carrie Munier as of April 2024. I had the best gluten free FRIED jumbo shrimp! Lightly fried and not greasy at all. Crab bisque was also amazing and a flourless chocolate torte for dessert. I think we will go here twice during our vacation. Excellent service too. Can’t recommend enough.
We went to the Pier House Restaurant last night and it was amazing! Such a friendly and welcoming staff who were also extremely knowledgeable about food allergies and sensitivities. The crab bisque was the best I've ever had with actual lumps of crabmeat not just a few stringy bits. I was also able to enjoy Gluten Free FRIED SHRIMP!!! I haven't had that in 20 years! Trust me, if you need gluten free, want excellent food and service, this is the place to go!!
I recently dined at Pier House Restaurant Bar and had the gluten-free seafood platter, and it was fantastic. The platter featured a generous assortment of shrimp, calamari, and fish, all expertly fried with a gluten-free batter that achieved a perfect crunch without being greasy.
Each seafood item was incredibly fresh and well-seasoned. The shrimp were plump and juicy, while the calamari had a delightful crispiness. The fish was flaky and flavorful, making every bite a treat.
I also meet the owner, she was delightful and helped us navigate what was safe for us to eat. I would highly recommend if you are in the area and would love some seafood!
If you have an issue with gluten, this is the place to go. The owner is serious about safety and has trained her staff to be serious, too. Their menu marks the menu with all common allergens. Because her husband has a different allergy she understands how important it is to be careful.
Highly recommend the fried green tomatoes and stuffed mushrooms. You can try all the fried food options- fried shrimp and crab!!!
One rainy afternoon we got to the restaurant a half hour before it opened and they saw us outside and opened for us to enjoy some drinks at the bar while they finished getting the kitchen ready.
They were so great, we ate here 3 times on our vacation. Will definitely go back when we return to the beach.
The best GF experience ever! Traveling is my anxiety trigger since diagnosed with Celiac 11 years ago. I read up on several places in the area and saw calamari and decided we needed to go here. I cannot tell you how safe and comfortable ever I felt. Every single staff member was kind and thoughtful and if didn’t know the answer, got us one. We had calamari, stuffed mushrooms, shrimp and the flourless torte. Everything was so good and did not make me sick. We will be going again before our trip is over. Thank you Carrie for caring about us w/CD.
Family visit on Oct 1st 2024
Shared the GF pier house fried platter
Fish was full body of trout. Tender, lightly battered, and juicy
Calamari about 8 to 10 rings. Tender, not rubbery, and tasty
Oysters about 5 to 7. Soft crunchy, and delicious
Shrimp about 5 to 7. Large lightly battered and delicious
Enough for 2 adults to be completely full.
Drinks were good. Blueberry margarita was delicious.
Daughter who's celiac had GF bun burger with fries and loved it. She's picky about burgers
Dedicated Fryer
Service was quick. Manager super nice lady.
Restaurant clean and spacious with family area and bar area.
Flour less chocolate tort available for dessert but didn't try it
Amazing, yummy - GF FRIED GREEN TOMATOES AND FRIED OKRA. Lots of GF options - including GF fried foods!
DON’T EAT HERE! They have their Pier House Platter listed as gluten free. It contains hush puppies, which I found out after eating ARE NOT GLUTEN FREE. So everything on the plate was cross contaminated. Probably contaminated their “dedicated” GF frier with the hush puppies. Horrible experience. I am so disappointed because even a restaurant with marked GF items can’t be trusted.
Gluten free food - all fried- was very good and all 3 celiac teenagers cleaned their plates. Appreciate the careful preparation and offerings for those with allergies and the knowledgeable staff. Local owner very nice and works hard to meet needs of those with allergies thru menu offerings and staff training. Not overly impressed with flavors of non-fried foods, tho.
Can accommodate up to 9 allergies, I saw diary and gluten free but unsure of rest of allergies. Dedicated fryer. Sounded locally owned by a family with a few allergies of thier own. I had the Pier House Platter with fried shrimp, calamari, cod, oyers, and fries. Shrimp and fries were the favorite, hands down.
Many options for those with food allergies. The menu lists allergens. I had many options as a Celiac. I got the fried shrimp platter, fried green tomatoes, and a flourless chocolate torte. Establishment also run by disabled veterans which I fully support with my business when given the chance.
We were very happy with the food! I have a gluten allergy and had the fried grouper and fries as well as the fried green tomatoes. I was very pleased with the breading on the fish. I’ve missed fried fish since most places don’t offer gf fried fish! Their fries are incredible! They are homemade and cut in a unique shape and fried to perfection! I will definitely go back when we visit here again! Also, the owners value first responders and teachers with a 10% discount which is quite thoughtful! They were very friendly and truly genuine people. The service was a little slow because they are getting used to new management so plan just a little extra time. Well worth the visit!!
This place is a hidden gem in Orange Beach! Great option for anyone Gluten Free! Almost everything on their menu is intentionally GF, and it is amazing! One of the best dinners I’ve had in the years I’ve visited the area.
We had so many good things and all served beautifully plated.
Stuffed mushrooms - great smoky sauce and a little kick to the stuffing.
Marinated crab claws - not like any I’ve had. Imagine a shrimp cocktail bust with crab claws and a creamy marinade.
Shrimp and grits - any good southerner would love these!! So delicious!
Grouper plate - I basically licked my plate clean. I only wish there was more of the crawfish cream on it. *chef’s kiss*
The seafood pasta - so much seafood!
Crab on crab on crab special - crab salad on top of a crab cake on top of a soft shell crab. Nothing bad to say! Perfectly seasoned.
Even the burger and chicken Alfredo were well made, but neither was GF.
Good drinks. Service was exceptional. Clearly this place is fresh and some of the staff are still learning, but so friendly and eager to please.
And there was live music… wonderful ambiance!
We will definitely keep this on our list of great options when visiting the area.
BEST GLUTEN FREE PLACE IN GULF SHORES!!! Ate here 3 different times on our trip! Delicious crab claws, fried shrimp, chicken fingers and fries! All safe! Dedicated fryers and the batter they use is GF and crispy and delicious not greasy at all! There's also more options and burgers that look amazing! Don't forget the delicious chocolate flour less torte 🤤 Go here you won't regret it!
This place is under new management (as of 35 days ago per the owner) & has gone above and beyond to be allergy friendly. The menu is mostly GF. I can vouch for the fried green tomatoes & fries; I was so excited to be able to have both! I will be back to try their fried seafood too. The new owner is also searching for the perfect GF bread supplier, so maybe I’ll get to try one of their yummy looking burgers on a bun soon too 🤞🏼PS- they know celiac & will mark as such on the ticket. (I usually default to say “gluten allergy” since most restaurants understand the allergy statement more, but you can say celiac here)
Update: visit #2 was also a hit! Fried seafood platter was amazing. Husband got steak which was also fantastic (he literally said it was the best steak he’s ever had). Also checked with the owner & she said they have found a GF bread supplier. Their burgers look so good; that’ll probably be my next to try!
This place is WONDERFUL!! Very knowledgeable regarding GF items. They have a separate fryer and separate GF menu. The owner even stopped by to ask how everything tasted. Having had celiac for almost 15 yrs, this was the first time I had eaten fried shrimp in 15 yrs. Worth a trip to Pier House! Their fried green tomatoes are worth trying as well!
They have gf menu and said they could make everything gf except the bread. I had the tuna poke which was very good and the fried green tomatoes. They were ok, probably should have been cooked a little longer and I wish they had more dairy free sauce options. Someone was raving about their sandwich so I hope they get gf buns/bread soon. I will definitely go back to try a few other menu items.
This gem was a rare find! They are now under new management and take allergies very seriously. The new owners husband has severe allergies and came out to speak to us personally. They have a dedicated fryer and gf kids meals and dessert options! We ordered fried fish and shrimp with gf fries and flourless chocolate torte. Everything came out hot and delicious! No one got sick. 3/6 in our party were gf celiac.
Wonderful experience! Our daughter has celiac and we struggle to find food options at a restaurant that are breaded and fried. We were so excited that Pier House has a gluten free breaded and fried foods! Our server was amazing - very knowledgeable and helpful and said most of what they serve is gluten free! There were even gluten free dessert options (one on the GF menu and one that wasn’t listen on the GF menu but our server said they could make it GF). We felt very comfortable and safe eating here. Highly recommend!!!!!!
This place (Pier House in Orange Beach Alabama)is awesome it was exactly what I needed having celiac for sea food we have 5 in our family 2 adults 3 children and were all Gluten-free there was many choices for our family for sea food from grilled to fried items the staff & owner know about real food its all made from scratch and not processed food they know how to prepare it safely If your in the area like Gulf shores it's a must to try if you like real food and know you won't get sick they also just started live music was a plus A+++++ and we travel a lot these kinda of restaurants aren't always easy to find.
Excellent fish with mashed potatoes and vegetables. The dessert was spectacular The prices are high but it was the best gluten free meal I have had in a very long time eating out. Highly recommend eating here
If you are in the area, you MUST visit. I was so excited to eat when the food came I didn't get any pictures, but the presentation was very beautiful. A great experience for everyone, it was such a treat to have gluten free fried goods! The breading was so light and crispy.
The chef was very friendly and happy to answer questions. I felt very comfortable and confident with the experience.
The staff seemed very knowledgeable about food handling for allergens. The staff was very pleasant and professional. They have a GF menu and it has almost everything from the dinner menu on it in one form or another.
I ordered the GF fried shrimp platter which comes with one side. I upgraded the side to sweet potato fries. The shrimp were well cooked, butterflied and nice and large. The fries were nice and crispy on the outside and tender on the inside. I also ordered the GF Caesar salad with their house dressing which was good, plentiful but almost too rich. I was very happy with my meal. It was a little pricey but you expect that so close to the beach.
My wife is not on a GF diet and she ordered a cup of the crab bisque which came with a nice chunk of a baguette. She said both were very good and the portion of bisque was generous. Her filet Oscar came with mashed potatoes and asparagus both of which she enjoyed. (Her entree was gluten free.) The filet unfortunately was not a hit. She ordered the filet medium and it came out well done around the edges and very medium rare in a large part of the center. It was a very slow night and we dined very late so maybe they just started with a steak that was too cold. In addition to the doneness she said it was almost unchewable so she didn't finish half of it. If it hadn't been so late we would have sent it back.
Our take away is that we will return but will stick to the grilled, blackened or fried seafood options next time. Also, their fried seafood is thinly battered but I don't think anyone would suspect it was GF it they weren't told. If you prefer the thicker, cornmeal battered fried seafood, like Deanie's in New Orleans, you might not enjoy the batter here as much.
This place was great! I was able to get fried fish at the beach which is rare and always a treat. And everyone else in my family enjoyed their meals, too, which is also really nice when trying to make sure I can eat g free. There was a wide selection of gluten free things. The kids menu was also great! The staff and manager were all lovely. It’s the next day now and I didn’t get sick so I definitely recommend.
Watermelon margarita - Was good but wish I was given the option to use top shelf tequila and sugar instead of salt on the rim. Calamari appetizer was delicious, The Pier Platter - Grouper, oysters, calamari and shrimp were delicious. Seared Scallops came with 4 scallops on a cold rice salad. I’m not a fan of the cold salad, the scallops did not have seared marks, this scallop dish was not worth the price. Overall this is a nice place, good food, with a dedicated GF menu. Server Shannon V. was nice.
I recently had the pleasure of dining at Pier House in Orange Beach, AL, and I must say, it was a fantastic experience. From the moment we walked in, we were greeted warmly by the owner and the friendly wait staff. The restaurant had a cozy and inviting atmosphere, with a touch of local art adorning the walls. Speaking of which, the fact that the chef's sister is a local painter and that some of her artwork was available for sale added a unique touch to the dining experience.
Now, let's talk about the food. As a celiac who follows a gluten-free diet, I'm always on the lookout for restaurants that offer ample GF options. Pier House did not disappoint. In fact, it exceeded my expectations. I was delighted to discover that they had a dedicated gluten-free fryer, which meant that I could finally indulge in one of my all-time favorites: fried shrimp. And let me tell you, it was absolutely delicious. Crispy, flavorful, and completely gluten-free, it was a real treat to be able to enjoy it after more than a decade.
My husband opted for the special of the day, which was Red Fish, and he still can't stop raving about it. The dish was cooked to perfection, with a delicate balance of flavors that left him wanting more. The chef's expertise truly shone through in every bite.
One thing that stood out to us was the attentiveness of the wait staff. They were knowledgeable about the menu, accommodating to dietary restrictions, and genuinely friendly. It's always a pleasure when the staff goes above and beyond to ensure a memorable dining experience.
Overall, our visit to Pier House was nothing short of exceptional. The combination of wonderful food, extensive gluten-free options, and the warm and welcoming atmosphere made it a truly standout restaurant. Whether you're a local or a visitor to Orange Beach, I highly recommend paying a visit to Pier House. Trust me, you won't be disappointed.
Best gluten free food in Gulf Shores! Tons of options including gf fried food. Ate here twice with no issues. Crawfish, redfish, steak, calamari, salads, and so much more! The owner was their both times and knew all about celiac and gluten free safety. Soooo delicious! Oh and gf chocolate torte for dessert! Wow!
