Pier House

The staff seemed very knowledgeable about food handling for allergens. The staff was very pleasant and professional. They have a GF menu and it has almost everything from the dinner menu on it in one form or another.

I ordered the GF fried shrimp platter which comes with one side. I upgraded the side to sweet potato fries. The shrimp were well cooked, butterflied and nice and large. The fries were nice and crispy on the outside and tender on the inside. I also ordered the GF Caesar salad with their house dressing which was good, plentiful but almost too rich. I was very happy with my meal. It was a little pricey but you expect that so close to the beach.

My wife is not on a GF diet and she ordered a cup of the crab bisque which came with a nice chunk of a baguette. She said both were very good and the portion of bisque was generous. Her filet Oscar came with mashed potatoes and asparagus both of which she enjoyed. (Her entree was gluten free.) The filet unfortunately was not a hit. She ordered the filet medium and it came out well done around the edges and very medium rare in a large part of the center. It was a very slow night and we dined very late so maybe they just started with a steak that was too cold. In addition to the doneness she said it was almost unchewable so she didn't finish half of it. If it hadn't been so late we would have sent it back.

Our take away is that we will return but will stick to the grilled, blackened or fried seafood options next time. Also, their fried seafood is thinly battered but I don't think anyone would suspect it was GF it they weren't told. If you prefer the thicker, cornmeal battered fried seafood, like Deanie's in New Orleans, you might not enjoy the batter here as much.

I had an absolutely incredible experience at Pier House. The owner/chef greeted me at the door then followed up to tell me about his GF prep area, dedicated frier and long history of preparing GF food.

I had GF fried fish and fries, and it was AWESOME!

Food was exceptional, great friendly atmosphere and very willing to accommodate allergies. Lot of gf choices on the separate menu and even willing to adapt regular menu items. Would definite go again!

This place was great! I was able to get fried fish at the beach which is rare and always a treat. And everyone else in my family enjoyed their meals, too, which is also really nice when trying to make sure I can eat g free. There was a wide selection of gluten free things. The kids menu was also great! The staff and manager were all lovely. It’s the next day now and I didn’t get sick so I definitely recommend.

Watermelon margarita - Was good but wish I was given the option to use top shelf tequila and sugar instead of salt on the rim. Calamari appetizer was delicious, The Pier Platter - Grouper, oysters, calamari and shrimp were delicious. Seared Scallops came with 4 scallops on a cold rice salad. I’m not a fan of the cold salad, the scallops did not have seared marks, this scallop dish was not worth the price. Overall this is a nice place, good food, with a dedicated GF menu. Server Shannon V. was nice.

I recently had the pleasure of dining at Pier House in Orange Beach, AL, and I must say, it was a fantastic experience. From the moment we walked in, we were greeted warmly by the owner and the friendly wait staff. The restaurant had a cozy and inviting atmosphere, with a touch of local art adorning the walls. Speaking of which, the fact that the chef's sister is a local painter and that some of her artwork was available for sale added a unique touch to the dining experience.

Now, let's talk about the food. As a celiac who follows a gluten-free diet, I'm always on the lookout for restaurants that offer ample GF options. Pier House did not disappoint. In fact, it exceeded my expectations. I was delighted to discover that they had a dedicated gluten-free fryer, which meant that I could finally indulge in one of my all-time favorites: fried shrimp. And let me tell you, it was absolutely delicious. Crispy, flavorful, and completely gluten-free, it was a real treat to be able to enjoy it after more than a decade.

My husband opted for the special of the day, which was Red Fish, and he still can't stop raving about it. The dish was cooked to perfection, with a delicate balance of flavors that left him wanting more. The chef's expertise truly shone through in every bite.

One thing that stood out to us was the attentiveness of the wait staff. They were knowledgeable about the menu, accommodating to dietary restrictions, and genuinely friendly. It's always a pleasure when the staff goes above and beyond to ensure a memorable dining experience.

Overall, our visit to Pier House was nothing short of exceptional. The combination of wonderful food, extensive gluten-free options, and the warm and welcoming atmosphere made it a truly standout restaurant. Whether you're a local or a visitor to Orange Beach, I highly recommend paying a visit to Pier House. Trust me, you won't be disappointed.

Best gluten free food in Gulf Shores! Tons of options including gf fried food. Ate here twice with no issues. Crawfish, redfish, steak, calamari, salads, and so much more! The owner was their both times and knew all about celiac and gluten free safety. Soooo delicious! Oh and gf chocolate torte for dessert! Wow!

Wow! Crab claws have always been one of my favorite things about beach trips. I love them! I was so sad to go to dinner with my family and watch them enjoy crab claws without me. Not here! They are gluten free! All the fried food is fried in a cornmeal mix. It’s all gluten free and delicious! I even had a flourless chocolate cake for dessert and it was great. I will be going back to eat here again. The staff is so nice and accommodating and truly seemed to care I was GF. Awesome place!

I was told everything on the menu is GF because they use corn flour. When they brought out my appetizer, it had bread on it. The food was extremely pricy and not that good. I do not recommend this restaurant. Thankfully I did not get sick.

We loved this place! The owner was very knowledgeable and friendly and there were many GF options to choose from! Even a flourless chocolate cake for dessert! Food was excellent—it did take longer than usual, but that is the nature of really good food. It’s a bit on the pricey side, but if you want to have a really nice dinner while you’re in town, this is the one to pick.

I went to Pier House on vacation in Orange Beach and it was an amazing experience. I got fried shrimp with fries (which were thicker, almost wedge-style potatoes) with house made tartar and cocktail sauces. I also got chocolate flourless cake for dessert, which would have been better warmed up but it was still very delicious. It was absolutely excellent food and I felt safe eating there. There is a gf “guide” to the menu that you have to ask for. Anything fried can be gluten free minus the hush puppies and they had a very large selection of gf dishes. They were very knowledgeable about gf which made me feel extremely comfortable eating here. I did not specifically ask about cross contact but I did not get sick and I am extremely sensitive.

This was the first time I have had fried seafood in years, and it was amazing!! Their gluten free menu was most of their menu, including all of their fried options. We got the Cajun Poppers and I had the Pier House Platter. I didn't know how much I missed hushpuppies until I had theirs!

The chef was fantastic and even came over and chatted with us. The servers were also extremely knowledgeable as well. Pier House is a must if you are visiting Orange Beach.

Update: We ate here again on another night of our trip and I had the Shrimp Platter and tried their Flouless Chocolate Torte. Both were phenomenal! We had another fantastic server, who when I said I wanted the shrimp grilled out of habit, double checked and reminded me that I could order it fried since they are gluten free!

INCREDIBLE food! Dedicated GF fryer. Best fried GF seafood in the Orange Beach/Perdido Key area. Unfortunately, we ate here on a busy night and had an inexperienced server who had very little knowledge of gluten issues. We also waited over an hour for our food which finally arrived minus some ingredients. For dessert I ordered the flourless chocolate torte, and the server brought me bread pudding! He didn't seem to think it was a big deal. Not sure I'll be back.

This new restaurant was fantastic!! The owner/chef, Chappy, was so helpful. Could eat almost everything or could be altered. They have a dedicated gf fryer and the use a corn based coating for their calamari and fried fish/shrimp. Staff was helpful and kind, food was fabulous. We’ll be back.

Update 7/14 - another amazing dinner. Gf stuffed chicken, gf red fish special. So good. And they added gf chocolate torte for desert.
