I ordered a chopped salad with no noodles and no bread. As I was eating my salad, a noticed a noodle was inside of it. I can’t believe they can’t even keep their salads gluten free. It’s really disappointing.
One thing I have had with no problem, is the cup of beef. It’s Italian beef in the gravy and could be ordered with peppers and cheese if you want.
Their cheese sauce is gluten free, so I’ll order the cheese sauce and make my own fries at home.
Overall, I wish such a big fast food chain could be more careful and conscious of gluten free. It’s not too hard to keep noodles separate and far away from salad items.
I recently visited Portillo’s, and I was pleasantly surprised by their attention to dietary needs, including some gluten-free options. While they don’t have a dedicated gluten-free menu, they do offer modifications that make it possible to enjoy their delicious food safely. For example, you can order many of their sandwiches without the bun or opt for their hearty salads, which can be customized.
Their staff was knowledgeable about gluten-free options and willing to accommodate requests. I appreciated their care in preparing my meal, ensuring there was no cross-contamination. The chopped salad, without croutons, was fresh and flavorful, and the option to enjoy their iconic Italian beef sans bread was a nice touch.
Overall, if you’re gluten-sensitive or have Celiac, Portillo’s offers a few tasty options that make dining out enjoyable. It’s not a full gluten-free experience, but they do a solid job for a fast-casual restaurant.
This place was great! I had the Chicago combo bowl (shredded Italian beef with a Italian sausage and cheese) along with fries. It is counter service and the guy immediately told the line who was making the food that I had an allergy and to clean up station and change gloves! I was impressed! Coke products too! Will definitely go back!
