Love their GF pizza & JJ nachos. The owners are always there & very accommodating. I was worried about the artichoke Parmesan sauce they use on the JJ nachos. She brought out the container so that I could even read the ingredients for myself. Wonderful place. They’re always busy since they have such a great reputation so go on off-peak times if possible.

Almost anything on their menu can be made GF. Their sweet potato fries were awesome, so were their regular fries BUT you have to ask for them to bake them. We also asked for GF baked potato skins so they just double baked them and didn’t deep fry them (the fryer isn’t safe but they will use their oven to spoil us with GF offerings). Food was excellent. I had a burger which was perfectly done Angus, they also have bean burgers and such and GF buns. Basically the menu was adaptable not just getting like a salad or food without bread. We had CHOICES!

They will make fries in the oven if you ask... sweet potato and French fries. Everything is amazing and very friendly. Get there early. They’re busy!

Gluten free pizza and beer
Outdoor seating is available and dog friendly outside. It gets busy so call ahead to ask when to come so in the lull they can make you GF oven baked fries or oven baked potato skins (the fryer is contaminated but they can make lots GF by avoiding the fryer and using their oven. Fries were awesome. Not sure how they were so good from an oven!
Safe pizza if you let them know you have Celiac. They get the crust pre-packaged (choice of GF or cauliflower) have a separate station for toppings, cook on a separate pan, and have dedicated pizza cutters. Pizza is delicious. Owners are educated on cross contamination & happy to help. They also have beef or pork nachos, broiled Walleye and offer GF buns, but warn the burger are at risk for contamination on the grill so did not recommend for Celiac.

Order a salad and GF drink and I’ve never been so sick. Had an immediate reaction and broke out in a rash all over my face and neck. I’m guessing they swapped my GF drink with a non-GF drink. It took me over a week to start feeling better.
Oh my gosh, this place was amazing. While their menu wasn't labeled, they had a lot of options and were very gluten conscious, even stating that they switched all their sauces to gluten free versions a while ago. They were very accommodating and aware of cross contamination.
All this is super important, but what impressed me the most is the care they gave my dish. I got a steak sandwich that typically has a toasted bun. I wasn't sure what to expect because most places seem to just throw everything on a way-too-thick plain udi bun that kinda ruins it. I was thrilled to find my bun sliced to the perfect thickness and baked, so it would be crispy without cross contamination. It was delicious!
Willing to accommodate but gf pizza not very good.
We moved to Hanover 10 years ago and found this restaurant. A couple years later my son was diagnosed with Celiac. We had gotten to know the owners so we talked to them about Celiac. The owners insisted that they wanted to have something for my son to eat. I discussed with them at length about cross contamination and they set up an separate station for prepping the gluten free pizza crusts with ingredients that are not contaminated. (Crusts are brought in prepared and frozen). We have never been ill yet and we eat there 1-2 times a week. My son has had his blood checked a couple of times since his diagnosis and his level has been perfect. That would not happen if he was having reactions to the pizza. He is extremely sensitive and will puke within 20-30 after cross contamination (happened 2 times from other restaurants). He now has Type 1 diabetes which takes cross contamination from Celiac to another level. Trust them completely. He has never gotten sick from eating at The River Inn. I have since figured out I had Celiac. I never get ill either. I do always stress the importance of clean everything and cross contamination still every time. The staff is great but it is a very busy place and I want to make sure it's got their attention. One friend of mine with Celiac kept getting sick from their pizza but we didn't. She later found out it was an different issue she had to their pizza sauce that her stomach couldn't handle. Nothing to do with cross contamination. They try very hard and take it very serious. Love this place! Update: They have Gluten free buns as well for burgers! They will also put tater toys through the oven instead of frying them.

Staff seems to knowledgable about GF but I've been sick both times that I've eaten here. The pizza is amazing though!!! If you're not very sensitive you may be fine.
