Most Shake Shack locations offer gluten-free buns for burgers. A lettuce wrap is also an option.
I have been GF for 4 months now. The gluten free bun here is one of the best I have ever had from a restaurant. They also made it a point to ask if I had an allergy or if it was preference. When I said allergy, they made sure to pack my burger in a separate bag and took noticeable measures to ensure no cross-contamination. Would recommend this location!
I went for breakfast and got a bacon, egg, and cheese on a gluten free roll. It was absolutely delicious and I had no symptoms that I was glutened! I didn’t ask if the hash browns were gluten free, but if they are, I don’t think there should be cross contamination because they only put the fries and the hash browns in the fried. The breakfast sandwich alone was delicious!
I had read that Shake Shack has dedicated fryers for their fries. I verified this however the person at the counter did inform me that all the fryer oils are filtered together for reuse so there is a definite chance of cross contamination and contact via the oil. I skipped the fries and just got a burger and drink. They have lettuce wraps and GF buns available but I suspect they toast the buns where the regular buns (I didn’t verify it but should have). No ill effects so I suspect I got lucky. If you need to eat here I’d stick to a lettuce wrapped burger and a drink (not a shake since they use the same equipment for shakes with brownie in them). Their menu kiosks have an allergy option but I don’t know that they would help at all since they don’t differentiate between bun gluten and sauce and condiments containing gluten.
Amazingly yummy burgers! I got the strawberry shake and a classic cheeseburger both times I went and had no issues. Shake Shack uses an electronic kiosk to take orders, but they have options to mark what allergens you have! There’s also gluten free buns!! The fries are not safe, so you don’t get to have a side unfortunately. I recommend checking the online allergen info on the Shake Shack website before you go :))
