Ate here for dinner. Talked to manager on phone ahead and was very helpful. During visit worked with Amie, the owner. I would recommend working with one of them for best experience. We have two Celiacs in our family. Amie was wonderful with the one who gets very nervous about eating out, answering several rounds of questions and setting her at ease. She gave us an overview at the beginning telling them to suggest what they want and she can tell them how/if she can make GF. There are a few things she cannot, but there are many options including GF pasta and GF bread. Amie explained they have a pasta that comes in a pouch and they microwave to eliminate some issues of cross contact. They also have a designated fryer and fries are possible. There is not a GF specific menu, she explained because most things can be made GF. One Celiac had pasta with chicken, veggies and a pesto sauce they specially made for her and it was very good. The cautious one had a hamburger on an Udi bun with fries. The meals come out on green plates so you know they are GF. There were two GF desserts that we did not try, but Skillets is also within walking distance of the G-Free Spot Bakery, a dedicated GF bakery in Hilton Head.
No gluten free menu, but the staff was knowledgeable about cross contamination and they did have a dedicated GF fryer. I had a turkey club sandwich on GF bread and French fries. It was great! The server also let me know that if the food didn’t come out on a green plate, not to eat it. They use green plates to make sure food isn’t mistaken for gluten free.
Staff is very knowledgeable. I got fried seafood platter. They have a dedicated fryer. Food was very good.
They have gf bread and their menu & website claim a dedicated fryer. While the menu says “ask about our gf options,” our server said a lot of menu items can be made gf, but that we’d have to ask about which specific items we wanted. The food was good, but I ended up nauseous and bloated after. :( ETA: It’s completely possible that the paper straws they served in our drinks contained gluten. :(
The owner, Amy walked me through the menu- many things can be made GF. I had fish and chips- very good!
My daughter got the gluten free noodles with Alfredo sauce. The noodles were ok, sauce was good and they brought her great gf bread. Staff was very knowledgeable and we felt very safe eating here.
We were searching for a gluten free restaurant for breakfast and other folks recommended this place. We were seated quickly. The food was slow coming out and when it did it was cold. I was really excited to try their gluten free pancakes but they were not good. Best thing I ordered was my side of scrambled eggs. Overall the food was okay; it wasn't horrible.
They do not have a dedicated waffle iron...so while they do offer gluten free waffles...they are made in the same iron as regular waffles. Also they informed me it wouldn’t be safe to eat the bacon or sausage. Even the pancakes I was told wouldn’t be safe until I asked if they could cook them in their own pan, which they did. (Unfortunately, they were not very good- very dense and flavorless and cold ) They do have a dedicated fryer so the potatoes were safe. As far as syrup I was not able to find info on either of the brands they offered so I walked over to piggly wiggly and bought myself a bottle of one I knew was gluten free.
Had their fried chicken for dinner today and it was the best chicken gf or not. It was juicy and had a lot of flavor. It was also nice and crispy. They have a separate fryer for gf food. Service was awesome as well! Staff was well educated and any questions they had they made sure to get the correct answer.
Had a yummy pecan waffle with pecan cinnamon butter. Came out on a green plate and mentioned they can do everything safe gluten free with separate waffle iron and frier
The staff was amazing! They have dedicated fryers and gluten free bread, pasta, buns, etc. I got to eat fries and a cheeseburger on a bun!! Our server was awesome and VERY helpful. Definitely recommend.
Wonderful gf waffles and very gf friendly and knowledgeable with a lot of options. Highly recommend it!
Very GF friendly! i had the fried chicken a few days ago. Today I did the fish and chips. Both were outstanding! Dedicated frier and work space. They have GF breads and buns for sandwiches and burgers.
My mom and I are both gluten free and they accommodated so nicely! Food was good and service was good. The GF fried chicken and fries blew my mom’s mind! I was so happy to have some fries as usually I have to pass up due to cross contamination (glutenous items being fried in the same deep fryer such as onion rings, etc). The servers were so sweet and even helped entertain my baby who was getting a bit sassy and rambunctious!
This place is wonderful! They have a separate fryer/skillet/waffle iron and gf bread. I had a delicious sandwich and then came back a later day for a waffle. Highly recommend! Lots of options!
My family and I had breakfast here, based on the excellent reviews from this app. My son and I had the GF pancakes, and they were good. Tasted like your typical GF pancakes, but a good version (vs a dry and gross version.) I spoke to one of the owners about their pancakes and she mentioned they have a separate fryer and her staff knows about CC, new gloves, separate spaces for food prep, etc. I always find it so refreshing where I don't have to educate a restaurant, and they already know the main basics.
Incredible experience! Made my son GF, DF shrimp scampi! It was wonderful.
We took our own bread in a reusable toaster bag. They toasted it in the bag and brought it back no problems. Ordered fried eggs, and a bowl of cereal. No issues.
Ate there 3 times!! Pancakes, Belgian waffles, chicken fingers & fries! No issues. They have a dedicated fryer!!
Unfortunately we did not have a good experience here. Our waiter was not knowledgeable on regular menu items, let alone knowledgeable of allergies. The manager spoke with us briefly, but she was also unsure of what was safe for me to eat with gluten/dairy allergies in regard to their GF bread/fryer/etc. As there was much uncertainty here, I would be wary of cross contamination and eat at your own risk!
Waitress was friendly. That was about the best part of the otherwise unremarkable experience. They did have GF toast, which was nice. I didn't ask about pancakes. Deep fried potatoes from a bag, peppers and onions in the omelette seemed like they were defrosted from a bag.
GF pancakes OK, better ones at other local places. Potatoes were tasteless. Waitress not very knowledgeable.
Absolutely GF friendly. The food is amazing and so many GF options. The are very knowledgeable and educated about celiac disease. I would absolutely recommend this place. Of course I would. We are going to host my daughters rehearsal dinner here.
Amazing food! Gluten Free waffle is delicious!
Gluten free options on menu. I had pancakes with blueberries and whipped cream, they we're very tasty
Pancakes are ok...taste a little like cornbread and dry. Service was great!
Not celiac friendly, waitress was rude about seasonings and cross contamination issues. GF pancakes and waffles cooked in same place a regular pancakes and waffles.
Not very gluten safe. They offer several options but I certainly question cross contamination in the kitchen. Also, several errors on our order. They brought out regular waffles instead of the GF. Mistake made on my wife's omelette order and she had gravy with her eggs. Disaster. Poor understanding of what being GF means.
Worst GF pancakes, very dense and dry. Had to smother them in syrup to get them down.
Enjoyed a great gluten free breakfast of pancakes, bacon and eggs.
Delicious gluten free breakfast including pancakes, waffles, toast and potatoes.
Good place for breakfast on the island. Had the GF pancakes, eggs and bacon. The waffles are NOT celiac safe as they use the same waffle maker. They clean the flat top for the GF pancakes so they are ok.
Enjoyed eggs, bacon, fried potatos and a fantastic gf waffle for breakfast. Service was great and no reaction. Will be back for dinner as I was told they use a dedicated gf fryer.
The waitress seamed annoyed when I asked her what was gluten free. I had to ask for a manger which after waiting 15 min said the only thing I could have were the pancakes . The pancakes were good but the service was absolutely horrible like the other reviews stated. I would not go back for that reason
I'd give the food a 4, however service was HORRIBLE! We had gluten free pancakes which were good and staff was knowledgeable. We sat outside and they forgot about us several times. Even when I asked a bus boy for our waitress it still took way too long! Will not be back.
Can't get breakfast all day. Totally bummed. Only reason we came there. Expensive and the regular food everyone else are didn't look great. Don't waste your time.
Several gluten-free options. I had the waffle. It was good, no issues.
Skillets is our new favorite. There is nothing marked GF on the menu (except it says they have GF bread for the sandwiches), but they have options for almost every type of thing on the menu. Ask to speak to a manager or the owner, Amie. I spoke to her, and she was incredibly knowledgeable about celiac and cross-contamination. The only reason I didn't give 5 stars was because the wait was pretty long (went Sunday around lunch time), but their service and their delicious, safe food makes up for it!
The best gf waffle that I've ever had! The waiter was very attentive to my gf needs. My family loved the non gf food, too!
Wonderful gf pancakes (add blueberries and strawberries!) and to die for chocolate lava cake that's gf!
Definitely Celiac friendly. My teenage daughter who is Celiac enjoyed the BLT sandwich and French fries ( dedicated fryer) with no reaction so much we ate at this restaurant three days during our six day visit to HH. During our last visit we ordered the GF chocolate cake which my daughter loved. Kate B our server on our first visit was very good when we inquired about cross contamination prevention. When the food was brought to our table by someone other than Kate B, I asked if the BLT was GF and he went to verify. Amie the owner took time to come to our table and confirmed what Kate B had told us. On our last visit I asked Amie what brand of bread they used and she showed me the package (UDI multi grain). I can not thank Amie and her staff enough for making this the first trip (out of 3 since my daughter was diagnosed with Celiac) that my daughter did not get sick.
Best gf pancakes pancakes ever. Non gf items also awesome.
Disappointing...I didn't find many gfree options. It could have been my waiter. Food was not the best and service was slow, we waited for over an hour for our food on a Sunday night. It didn't seem crowded, but it did seen understaffed.
By far the best place for celiacs on Hilton Head Island. They have a wide range of options for gluten free dining including a dedicated fryer for fries, potatoes etc. they have delicious gf pancakes and waffles. All of the staff was well educated and the hostess and owner were very helpful.
The owner, Amy is very aware of those with allergies, including gluten and understands those with Celiac Disease must NOT be exposed to it. I ordered pasta and it was delicious. Our server was very nice and when he didn't have the answers to my specific questions, he went and spoke to the chef...twice! The rest of my family enjoyed their meals as well. Definitely my go to restaurant on HHI. I also had a GF waffle and pure maple syrup for breakfast one morning which was wonderful.
Server was very helpful with gf menu items. They do not have a gf menu, but she knew what I could order. I had gf pancakes and eggs. The pancakes were light, fluffy, and delicious. So nice to be able to order pancakes at a restaurant! My husband also enjoyed his regular meal. Recommend.
When I asked what GF options were available I was met with a blank stare and "Nothing." It turns out they do have either pancakes or waffles but my waffle arrived with a Smuckers syrup container sitting on top (which itself was covered in syrup). The Smuckers stuff is *not* GF so I sent back the waffle and had a cup of fruit. They comped the fruit, which was nice, but I won't be back.
Lots of gluten free options. I got a waffle. I enjoyed it but it tasted just like a soft rice crispy. Our service was not great. She was not very attentive or friendly.
Menu is not clearly labeled with GF items. I asked our waitress what was GF and she had no clue what gluten was!! Asked to speak to manager who was very knowledgable about gluten and cross contamination. She assured me kitchen was trained. Food was ok. Effort was great.
