Proceed with caution. This place served me wheat. Like literal wheat not something with hidden gluten in it. Had an early dinner reservation on Valentine’s Day and we had noted celiac in the reservation as well as confirming at the beginning of our meal. We had two courses and the third was brought out with a grain mix and in it was a wheat cereal grain. I confirmed before consuming but still got sick from what I’m assuming was cross contamination in the first two courses. They were very apologetic and I appreciate that but as someone who has been in the restaurant industry for a while that mistake was inexcusable.

Was originally leery about how well they avoid cross contamination (because they didn’t say they had a separate kitchen space), but they must be careful because I did not get sick! Apparently nearly all of the menu is GF and the pitas are prepared in a separate area. Kept my family’s pita orders separate from my plates and were able to list everything I could eat. Just let your server know. REALLY delicious. Expensive, but you get a quality meal!

Delicious food. They brought me cucumbers and lettuce to replace the pita for the mezze. I did not feel super confident about cross contamination, but I felt totally fine afterwards.

Service was IMPECCABLE. Suraya is a gorgeous oasis in the heart of Fishtown. The waiter went over everything that was safe for a celiac (she asked me immediately if I was just gluten sensitive or Celiac- always a good sign!) Almost the entire menu was celiac friendly, minus the obvious pita ( which was subbed for cucumbers and lettuce leaves.) The food was fantastic as were the cocktails- many great options there as well for someone who likes a nice drink but is very sensitive to many liquors.

Had an amazing gf meal here. Was a little hesitant based on the last review but had a very different experience. Came for brunch, asked the staff about foods that are safe for someone with celiac. They were very knowledgeable. They said all (!) of the shared dips were GF and they even subbed my pita with lots of cucumbers and butter lettuce. They also assured me that the branzino would be safe to eat. I did not ask too many questions about how things were prepared since I just got salads/dips and fish. I don’t feel sick and the food was incredible.

So I was supposed to eat here with my husband and we called ahead to make sure there were Gf options which they assured us there were lots of, which there were. However, when I called back the day of to confirm our res. and let them know I was celiac, the hostess told me her dad was celiac and she would not bring him to eat there and didnt recommend it because they make all of their pita in house and said that at any point there could be flour in the air/food back there. So i didn’t eat there but was told it is not celiac friendly.
