I have been a loyal Red Fern customer since they opened. When I was diagnosed with celiac disease in 2017 I was thrilled to discover I could still safely eat at my favorite restaurant. Their menu is clearly labeled and most items can be made gluten free. They mark “gluten free for celiac” on my takeout and even have “gluten free for celiac” as an option on GrubHub, which I have never seen another restaurant do.

I have celiac disease and I’m vegetarian so this place is a great option. They are 100% vegan as well and have amazing desserts! Try the compost plate. No question they are safe for celiacs!

They have a lot of gf desserts and of course everything is vegan. The cookies were pretty good, my favorite was the ginger cookie. Everything was pretty sugary and sweet. Other desserts tasted a little overly sweet and mushy, so not my favorite. They have gf bread, plain, cinnamon raisin, or jalapeño cheddar, I tried the plain and it definitely didn’t make me feel great, so had to compost it. It’s mostly sorghum flour and tapioca, and it was very very dense so only tasted good when toasted a lot. Not my favorite place, probably wouldn’t go back.

I love this place! They have clearly marked gluten free options for those with celiac. They are very careful with cross contamination.

Very friendly customer service and delicious gluten free treats. The whole place is vegan, which is great for people like me who can’t eat dairy. They have a lot of gluten free (and soy free) options and mention on their website that you can specify celiac safe and they’ll use a separate grill. I got a salad and cookie and they were delicious. I appreciate that they keep the gluten free treats on the top shelf away from the non gluten free but it’s something to be aware of that they do serve items with gluten, including treats, here.

AMAZING GEM IN ROCHESTER SERVING THE VEGAN, GLUTEN FREE, DIETARY LIMITATIONS COMMUNITY !
I've got to admit, I'm sorry Red Fern, I am a carnivore, I LOVE meat - BUT as someone with Celiac Disease and IBS, I have to avoid gluten, dairy, and high fodmap foods, and your restaurant caters to ALL my needs with plenty of options!
Yesterday was the first time I had actually dined at Red Fern - cute eclectic downstairs place - with a TON of baked goods options on display when you walked in and cozy seating arrangements.
After scanning the menu, and talking with our AWESOME server Beth - who was honest and told us WHICH options were best for celiacs (not just gluten free people) - my friend and I went with the KALE COSMIC SALAD - which truly was out of this world - with topped plain tempeh - a lot of "firsts" for me with this meal option, never had tempeh or tahini before, but LOVED the savory, sweet combination of all the ingredients and the Baked Mac and Cheese - which was not too cheesy, but just right.
After, of course, I HAD to have the Vegan Icecream (which was ALL gluten free as well) - Pumpkin Pecan Cookie, which had chunks of gluten free cookies in it and tasted like pumpkin pie, and the Salted Caramel, which was good, but a bit too coconut based for me.
Topped it all off with their SO SOFT AND CHEWY on the center sugar cookies.
HANDS DOWN, AMAZING MEAL, AWESOME EXPERIENCE. WILL BE BACK!

The staff here are knowledgeable about celiac and cross contamination. They have a number if gf options and most items can be made celiac safe. I highly recommend.

I've been coming here regularly since I got diagnosed. I had never had any issues until recently, but in the past two months I've gotten glutened here twice. After the first time I let them know and they were very concerned, identified the issue, but it just happened a second time. While I know that they take Celiac disease very seriously, I am not planning on eating here again.
Good vegan food. Staff understand importance of avoiding cross-contamination

One of the best restaurants in Rochester for gluten free, if not the best. They make a majority of their items gluten free (regular menu items can be optional gf if they aren't already-occasionally their special is not gf). The staff is very knowledgeable on gluten free and celiac practices. PLUS they have amazing baked goods for gf! I go her very often and I've never had a problem. Go on Friday and get a gluten free donut! You won't regret it.

This is one of my go-to spots! I’m gluten-free vegan, so usually have limited options at most restaurants- but can eat over half of the meals on the menu here. The staff is very accommodating to food allergies and will make your meal “celiac friendly” if you ask.

My husband and I both loved our meals. We tried the Mac and Cheese, he had a “compost” plate, and I got a GF grilled cheese. I am also allergic to dairy, so it’s a treat to really go to town on the comfort foods at a good vegan restaurant with so many GF options. We will be back next time we visit Rochester.
Have GF options and the “garbage plate” is soooo good but I felt sick multiple times after I’ve eaten here..
Celiac friendly, but the food was disgusting. I could barely eat any of my dish, and my husband only ate half of his. The tofu was dry and over seasoned, the traditional fries were very dry, and the sweet potato fries were undercooked. It was just a badly done meal. The only reason it doesn't get one star is that I didn't get sick.
And they are totally vegan, not vegan friendly. I don't care about that but some do.

Lots of gf options, even desserts. Their gf bread was tasty. Aword of caution to Celiac diners: Omission beer is NOT gf (even though they label as so on their menu)
Great food and service. Lots of gluten free and dairy free options. Including tons of desserts!

Lots of gf items on the menu, and they will prepare your meal "celiac safe" if you ask. I especially liked the Buddha bowl, which was both tasty and healthy.

Absolutely gluten friendly! Very quaint, peaceful place with great lighting. I brought my 4 year old daughter there for lunch, and she had "gf mac and cheese nachos" with a gf chocolate peanut butter smoothie. I had the gf salad with craisins, goat cheese and avocado. The best salad of my life! Vegan place...I felt healthy after eating that salad! We plan on going there for lunch again. Very friendly guy who greeted and seated us. Great experience!
Side note: Park on the street and not the small lot behind the building as it is tight to back out of a parking space. I didn't do a k turn to get out of my space...it was more of an asterisk!

Wow! I am gluten free and had no idea that vegan food could be so fantastic. While I waited for my gf vegan baked mac and cheese, I was served (at my request) a lovely slice of herbed gf toast. Mac and cheese was very flavorful and rich. I did not finish it so I could try desserts. Glad I did- the raw blueberry/strawberry bar is like a sumptuous gf tangy cheesecake and the ginger gf cookie is huge, yummy and moist. Son had a large price of "island cake with buttercream frosting, which is not gf, but they had gf piña coloda cupcakes with same well made frosting. Wait staff are super friendly, attentive, and accommodating. Alt radio music not too loud. Casual setting. Good value for price.
Lovely little cafe with a small dining room and a few outdoor seats. The entire menu is vegan, and 90% of it is available gluten-free (the only exceptions when I was there were dishes with seitan). Some GF desserts, but celiacs beware that they're kept in the same display case as the non-GF desserts.I had the gluten-free mac and "cheese", which was very tasty! Everyone in our party, vegans and non-vegans alike, were very happy with their meals.
