Edit: I’ve never gotten sick here but last time I was here I did notice that it’s a very small prep space and I’m not sure they have separate ingredients for gluten free orders which is problematic if they’re grabbing lettuce after touching bread.
The girl who took my order has celiac disease. She said they’d wrap the bread in aluminum foil to keep it safe. The sand which was delicious and I didn’t get sick.
PSA that they put flour in the eggs. I ordered a GF breakfast sandwich and was informed that they use flour in the egg mixture. They subbed for egg whites but I’m disappointed that I’ve ordered eggs before and said I had an allergy and was just told about this now.
Breakfast bread can be changed out to GF bread. Several GF baked goods: key lime pie, chocolate chip cookie, snickerdoodle (yummy), and lemon-blueberry iced donut (moist, fresh, and flavorful). They had beet salad (like at other location) and chia seed pudding. I definitely didn't feel like GF was an after thought. They also had free refills of coffee at this location (vs at the one next to Boston Commons that charged 55 cents for refills). Nice atmosphere and reasonably priced.
Coffee shop in North End part of Boston. They offer both GF and non- GF baked items. Have GF tiramissou, and an unbelievable Vegan/ GF Snickerdoodle made w/ Almond flour. I would consider this a place to go after having dinner in North End, to grab a Cappucino and a sweet after dinner.
Went here today for the first time... placed my order and let the lady at the counter know that I was a very sensitive celiac so proper handleing is essential. She assured me they were very aware and used all precautions. I walked down the line and watched the young lady making my sandwich. She started by changing her gloves.... then wiped off her counter... next step was heating my bread which she did by wrapping it first in foil before placing it in the press... I was so very impressed that they would take the time to think that far in to the process... I had actually been thinking as I was watching "Oh well, there is the cross contamination potential, and I would probably be eating the filling and leaving the bread even though the bread itself was gluten free" When she wrapped it in foil I wanted to hug her!!! Then the poor girl dropped one slice on the counter when she unwrapped them... she immediatly without any hesitation took that slice and put it in the trash and prepared a new slice! I am so excited to have found this place! I know I will go back there again, and again, and again :D Very, clean, very pleasant, right on top of the allergin issue... I just wish I could give them more than 5 stars!!! Had to come back and edit this review! I indulged and purchased a gluten free pastry, they had a black forest cake today.... little layers of cake with cream filling and cherries.... out of this world!!! Anyone with celiac can attest to how rare good pastries are and a shop that sells really good gluten free bread for your sandwich!
Amazing GF chocolate chip cookie, great coffee, and helpful staff
Did not change gloves before getting out my bread (from a basket with other non-gf bags of bread in it too), and putting it on tin foil to heat it up, or before getting out the bacon to heat it up. After those things were warmed up, they changed gloves to put the sandwich together, but it would have already been contaminated. I didn't dare eat it.
Very good. I had a BALT on gf bread and thought it was delicious. The bread was perfectly crispy. They also have French macarons which are delicious (but very tiny). Portions could be better, service could be better, and prices were a little high. But overall I would go back.
I would give the chocolate chip cookie two stars, but overall the place gets one because while they have gf bread, they do not understand celiac at all. I asked the person taking my order to change gloves and wrap the sandwich in aluminum foil and she looked confused. She asked, "why?" That's when I knew not to risk it.
nice sandwich on gluten free bread and delicious cookies too
GF cookie was good. They have a GF Boston Opera cake that is amazing!!! Also the GF tiramisu is great.
Cute place, staff was helpful with gluten intolerance. Coffee was excellent! They had great to go quinoa salads, fruit and parfaits plus a few GF dessert options. Their sandwiches can be made with GF bread. Doubt it would be good for celiac but was good for intolerance. Stop by!
