I told the server that I have Celiac and asked specifically about the fryers, she said that they are not dedicated, but the kitchen could pan fry instead. I got the scallops and brussel sprouts and had a feeling the brussels were done in the fryer when my food came out. When I asked the manager he said they were and took care of making me a new dish right away. To their credit gluten allergy was marked on the ticket and they re-did my meal, and most importantly I didn’t get sick. However, I would have if I hadn’t caught it, and the manager said that the cooks didn’t think a cross contaminated fryer would be an issue (which I specifically asked my server about, so that makes me think she didn’t really communicate with the kitchen beyond putting it on the ticket). If you eat here, be super vigilant and double check after your food comes out.
The ambiance is great- but I very clearly expressed that I had Celiac disease, etc, and they assured me they take it seriously. My meal came with a very obvious not gluten free noodle in it. I immediately asked, luckily, before taking a bite, and was informed that yes somehow a wheat pasta piece got in. Clearly they are cooking gluten free pasta in the same water as regular. This is obviously not okay for Celiac disease. Eat here at your own risk. Great restaurant- but not for those of us with Celiac.
The food was mediocre to begin with, but then they served gluten pasta despite me asking multiple times if the food was gluten free. Don’t eat here.
This is my go-to restaurant in South Harlem! The food is great and the place is fun. They have gluten free pasta and several gluten free dishes and desserts. The staff are great and knowledgeable and will take care of you.
