It's always feels a bit 'Russian Roulette' when you eat out with Coeliac Disease and a dairy intolerance! Did my research and had a very positive and tasty experience. GF & Vegan pizza followed by sorbet. The waiter was excellent even corrected me when I wanted a Gf & v option when I should've been looking at gf & ve! Pizza comes with a purple slicer, gf, and a tomato on it to show its vegan. I've marked 4 for safety as the kitchen has non gf foods prepped.
Knowledgeable staff started by asking about allergies. Can do gf pasta or pizza base. Pizza is cooked on separate pan with purple slicer (you slice yourself). It is in same oven but doesn’t touch oven bottom.
Gluten free bases are made in separate factory and brought in. For gf pizzas they use all gf toppings including cheese. They will opens new cheese if needed to make sure it is completely gf.
I had vegan cheese and it was delish.
I’m aware that this chain is certified coeliac free, however I don’t like to take things at face value. Spoke with them on arrival to let them know we had a coeliac with us. The menu could be a little easier to follow than it is. There is a lot of choice for GF and the food is really nice. Felt re-assured by them re-affirming that everything is prepped and cooked separately and loose flour is rice flour. Will go again.
I ate here thinking it was safe as I have eaten at pizza express before and they have a dedicated menu however I ordered the pasta as it was marked gluten free and checked with the server. I then got glutened and was very ill on the first 15 min. I was downstairs unwell and my boyfriend told the manager just to let them know for future as i didn't want this to Halen to other people. I didn't care about a refund or anything I just wanted to go home. The manager said this could never have happened and the chief had been there for 15 years and this was never an issue and said it wasn't the food which is obviously untrue as I was ill. I would not eat her again but I would eat the pizza from any other pizza express as they have been safe for me in the past
We visited here yesterday and it was great! All of their pizzas can be made GF, with a decent GF base. They do GF pasta too. Their hallumi bites are GF and they have some GF puddings.
Pizzas are cooked in their separate space and come with a purple pizza cutter just for GF pizzas.
They seemed knowledgeable regarding gluten free/coeliac. As always, can never guarantee no cross contamination but they seemed to be aware of the risks.
Saftey and option wise this place was good. Lots to choose from and it is accredited by coeliac uk. I felt they had good measures in place to ensure minimal cross contamination.
Down side is the pizza I had and my brother had one too both seemed very undercooked and doughy. The toppings and crust were cooked but it left the base with an odd taste.
Had a really bad experience here. I’ve read some other 1* reviews on Google for the restaurant. Ordered gluten free pizza and gf dough balls- they came incorrectly labelled and we don’t believe they were gluten free. Very risky to order from here with allergies. The vegan pizza we ordered was also not labelled correctly. Be careful!
Staff were helpful and informed, and lots of gluten free options. Lots of measures to reduce cross contamination, too. Great, as I've come to expect from Pizza Express. Plus... the pizzas are huge, if you get the larger/thinner base. So unusued to getting a 'normal' size pizza thats gluten free...
During our stay in South Kensington we visited this location twice. This is the first time I’ve had pizza from a restaurant in two years and it was so good. The second time I even got gluten-free dough balls. Many options and very tasty. As someone else mentioned, you have a pizza cutter for dedicated gluten-free items.
Delicious gf dough balls and safe pasta and pizza - lots of range of choices. They use separate preparation space for the gf pizza, and rice flour for surfaces and baking preparations of all pizzas. Gluten free pizza is served uncut with separate, specifically coloured pizza cutter to your table. Other utensils are clearly marked and separate. They work hard to prevent any cross contamination. We have eaten there twice and husband and son have both been safe (husband unsymptomatic, son symptomatic coeliacs)
Visited here with my partner in March 2024.
Saw so much hype about it being dedicated gluten free and coeliac uk stamp.
Ordered my food told them I had celiac disease and asked them kindly if they could follow the procedures I explained to them.
They brought out my food and I ate it.
I had eaten nothing before this and can honestly say I was off work for a week.
Sent them an email and they never got back to me.
Has honestly scared me to not go to any restaurants.
Always visited prior to coeliac diagnosis for partner and child. First visit since going GF - both said GF dough balls were v v nice! Partner was happy as they had GF beer. Daughters GF pasta was lovely, partner had GF pizza and looked just as yummy as normal one. Served with a purple pizza cutter to show GF and when delivering to table did mention gluten free so was comfortable with this
Partner did suffer from symptoms morning after visit but could not narrow down if this was directly from restaurant or somewhere else. Would definitely visit again though.
Ate here with no problem at all, I’m a very sensitive celiac. The chain is accredited by the Coeliac association so takes all the precautions necessary.
When you sit they ask about allergies and give you an extremely comprehensive allergy list to everything which was so helpful! The service and food was so delicious and I am definitely going to go back!
Absolutely fantastic food and service. They’ve increased their GF range so we now have more pizza and pasta choices. It’s not all marked on the menu (I initially thought they’d stopped doing GF dough balls, and was really disappointed, but they haven’t, they’re still very much present and correct)
Pizza express are great for coeliacs, always recommended!
Lots of great GF choices.
Two different sized GF bases (big and small)
The most popular thing on the menu you can also have gf plus lots of starters and sides. Staff are well trained in allergens, plus they have a lot of things put in place to avoid cross contamination (seperate utensils etc)
Had dinner here on a Thursday, was pretty busy so I was a little worried but the waiter was very reassuring and showed me on his order screen how he’d selected gluten free and gluten allergy for everything I ordered. Dough balls were delicious and so was the pizza, especially now they do the bigger GF bases! My pizza was plated separately to the other pizzas and I’ve had no reaction, would return!
Felt comfortable walking in, the kind staff right off the bat asked if I had any allergies. I did come in at a quiet hour which helped. The menu states that anything with GF on it, is a certified GF dish that meets the coelaic criteria. I started off with the Spicy Chicken Wings which was delicious.
I then ordered the BBQ Chicken Pizza on the GF roma pizza base & that was fantastic. It also came with a purple slicer which indicates that the utensil is GF. I did not get sick afterwards.
I had their Padana Romana pizza with extra mozzarella. Checked with staff several times to request their GF version. Also had some shared tomato salad. Also had a decaf latte. However and unfortunately after eating about a quarter of the pizza, I started to experience Gluten Sensitivity tummy pains and later had other tummy issues. I have eaten GF options at other branches of this chain without tummy issues. This time I can not recommend.
