I got the social bowl (brown rice, cabbage, pickled onion, cilantro) with grilled shrimp (a little spicy). I skipped the awesome sauce. Everything was very fresh and tasty. The server confirmed the brown rice is gluten free. The organic salad with mayo, shrimp or salmon may have been a good choice too.
So based on the last reviewer, I thought I would give Slapfish a try but when attempting to order the grilled salmon fish plate, the waitress said that the salmon would be grilled on grill as others so wasn’t a safe for celiacs and suggested the fish taco instead and that is what I ordered. It took a long time to be delivered, just one taco, so somewhat pricey. Hey, it was tasty and I didn’t have any adverse reactions so far. I cringed when I saw reviews on TripAdvisor but honestly, it’s airport food and a very kind but limited staff. MySauvignon blanc wine was icing on the cake!
Yummy bowls and tacos. Chips and salsa. Staff is knowledgable about allergies.
Was concerned there wouldn't be any safe options. Staff had little to no knowledge of gluten containing ingredients. Scoured the menu myself and found I could order a custom voyage bowl with grilled shrimp and slap sauce. I asked for no crunchy topping just in case, and you may want to remove the sweet potatoes as im not sure how they're cooked. It was seriously delicious and I will be back. My gluten-eating partner got a cold lobster roll with slap slaw and said it was great. I've also read that their tacos should be gluten free but I would still double check. They also have paclaged GF brownies and rice crispies to go
Edited: Another AMAZING MEAL! Seriously can’t go wrong. Hawaiian Bowl and Power Bowl for the GF win and for your non Celiac foodies- Clobster was sooooo decadent!
Food was delicious. They were very knowledgeable and offered to fry the French fries separately to be sure there was no cross contamination. Great selection of grilled fish options snd even the soy sauce was GF.
They have THE best Verlasso salmon! I am GF (celiac) and DF, and ordered the Hawaiian bowl and swapped out for the upgraded Verlasso. Such great portions-I often have leftovers for lunch the next day. When you order just mention that you're GF, and they will go above and beyond to accommodate, and are very knowledgeable. Very clean. Food is made to order. So good for a quick, healthy meal!
Excellent food and service. Plenty of Gluten free options. My wife has celiac and this is her favorite. Can't go wrong with the Hawaiian bowl.
Had the fish like others have (grilled). Pretty tasty, with a bit of mayo based sauce. However, unlike the previous reviews, I was informed the fryer was NOT gluten free. Not surprised, it’s a small establishment, but was disappointed. if you’re coming for the fries, skip this place :( They did come out to correct my order, after I said I had celiac, so that’s something.
Slapfish has amazing food. The street tacos and ultimate fish taco can be gluten free if ordered with corn tortillas. The Ultimate fish taco is grilled and is HUGE! Do you miss clam chowder? Guess what their clam chowder is gluten free! The chowder fries are something never to miss as well. Last, the prices are really decent for what you get.
Ordered Grilled Fish Salad. Was told by staff the Honey Lime vinaigrette dressing was gluten free but I’m also DF and it looked “creamy” so didn’t try it. Got the grilled Mahi mahi and it was flavorful enough the salad didn’t need dressing. Lots other gluten free options but unsure about cross contamination prevention measures. I’m not celiac so I don’t have to be as careful as some but I can tolerate their food without issue.
I went there and asked them about gluten free options and they were really kind. I ordered the street tacos and they came with FLOUR tortillas when I specifically told them I have a gluten allergy. The menu item I ordered was supposed to come with corn tortillas. Luckily I caught the mistake but it could have been devastating for me. Very scary.
Chowder contains 2% Wheat flour, there are people on yelp and this app that say their chowder is gluten free BE ADVISED!!
The staff is friendly and very knowledgeable about what is gluten free. They will tell you the items that alone are gluten free but would be contaminated by the way they’re cooked too. They’re always very accommodating, the food is yummy, and we eat there frequently.
The person working the counter, Tyson, was very knowledgeable about the prep of food for Celiac and he told us exactly what was safe and wasn't safe, and he talked to the kitchen staff before they began cooking our food. Our food was good. I had the big fish taco (GF), two of the kids had little fish tacos (GF), one kid had a fish burrito with chips (non-Celiac, he eats gluten), and my husband had a fish bowl. The bowl and the burrito were big portions. Tyson said they had a "dedicated fryer" but knew to inform me the two fryers share a filter, so my Celiac kiddo skipped the chips and we all had grilled fish. Although we didn't try it, the chowder is GF. I've waited five days now between dining there and writing this review to make sure my son didn't have a reaction and it would seem he was spared any cross contamination. We would eat there again, especially with Tyson manning the counter!
The gentleman at counter knows what is and is not gluten free. There’s not a dedicated cooking space for gluten allergies so celiacs take note. It is fresh seafood, fresh salads and fresh seafood sandwich type of place. Get the Simply fish salad and choose from several fresh fish options as meat for the top of the salad! It’s delicious and GF.
I live in Santa Fe and needed to find a place for lunch during a doctor's office visit. I really liked the menu of fresh seafood and veggies, and I read they have a dedicated fryer so we gave it a try. Immediately, when I let the young lady behind the counter know I had celiac and would need her help ordering (they don't have a specific gluten free menu) I could see the awareness of what I needed come into her eyes. I basically had the whole menu to order from, and they would personally keep me away from gluten since they let the kitchen know. In fact, as I was pondering the menu (you order at the counter) the owner of the franchise came up, noticing I had order preferences, and he jumped in and said they would tailor my order knowing I couldn't eat gluten. So I had the Power Bowl that had rice and veggies, shrimp and tilapia. I also ordered a side of fries that were delicious! When the food was brought to my table, the same young lady reiterated that the dish was gluten free. I felt really safe here. Later, the owner swung by and I learned his members of his family have some food in tolerances, so he understood.
BTW, he said the clam chowder is also GF made with corn starch. I will definitely be back.
They were very helpful and accommodating. Substitutions were easy. I had the power seafood bowl. The fish was fresh as were the vegetables. I did not eat the dressing. The food was delicious. I would definitely eat there again. I am a very sensitive celiac and I had no issues. There were quite a few options for me to choose, and all looked excellent.
Very accomodating and patient. My daughter and I are both Celiac and we had no issues. As mentioned in other reviews GF options are not listed but they are really knowledgeable. They have a dedicated frier for fries (good for kids), great options for fish wraps and salads. They even took the extra step to bring our food out seperatly to avoid contamination, this I alway like to see.
After seeing reviews of other locations I thought I would give it a try. I called ahead and spoke to the manager in the afternoon. When I called later that evening the guys there didn't know but made the effort to call the manager. The street tacos were amazing! They have a local brand of soda vs. coke/pepsi products. Loved this place and can't wait to go back. I did not get sick.
