The staff had fast service, dedicated fryer and were educated about allergies. Also, the food was so delicious: burgers, fries, and the burrito.
I was skeptical of this place. There is no mention of gluten free food on their website or menu and when we called the hostess was clueless. Then when we arrived, the waitress said the fries were gluten free and the burgers could be served on GF buns, but she was not very knowledgeable or convincing. We rolled the dice based on recommendations from friends. My 6 year old son - who has celiac - LOVED his meal and had no issues. I thought my burger was gross and overpriced and the service was pretty bad - even though the place was mostly empty. So, I guess the summary is this place it’s good at preventing cross contamination, but bad at preparing tasty food and providing prompt service.
Staff was very knowledgeable! They have separate friers, a designated cook space, and lots of gluten free beer/cider options.
Delicious burger (served on what I believe was an Udi bun). Both regular fries and sweet potato fries are in their own fryer.
Tour guide suggested 5 Napkin Burger out of all the burger places in Boston, and was not disappointed. Burgers were delicious and cooked perfectly. Love that they bring pickles to the table instead of bread! Knowledgeable about gluten free and cross contamination.
The burger comes on a really hot plate so the bun got soggy pretty quickly. Other than that, the burger was perfect at medium well.
Are waiter was nice. Are food came out fast. And was very good. My recommendation is the bacon cheddar burger.
Very good staff and good food. Loved the kale salad!
Great meal, super flavorful burger, safe fries, real gf beer available, and great staff. Thanks!
Original Review: Have only had their flagship burger, twice. The second time was to give the burger another chance. Both times were mediocre. Their fries and drinks are good, though. Three stars b/c their fries and drinks were delicious but their **flagship** burger wasn't memorable by any means. Would I go again? Yes. But only to try a different entree. I would not order their flagship burger again. Update 4/17/16: Visited on Saturday 4/16/16, Scottie (the server) was very knowledgeable about the gluten free options and substitutions that could be made. They made a custom drink for me that was similar to the one I couldn't order b/c it wasn't gluten free. I wanted the Turkey Burger, but the turkey party isn't gluten free so Scottie suggested we substitute their regular beef patty. My "Turkey" burger was yummy. I would order it again. I am a whimp when it comes to spicy food, but the tomatoes gave just the perfect amount of kick to wake up the taste buds. Furthermore, the richness of the pesto and the cheese played perfectly together with the acidity and freshness of tomato jam and arugula. Would I order this burger, again? Yes. My boyfriend ordered the BBLT and a margarita. He loved both. Would I visit, again? Yes. In fact, this visit bumped my rating up from 3 to 4 stars.
Burgers were delicious! (My friend even loved her turkey burger) The GF bun was really good and it was an amazing bonus that the fryer was dedicated. I'm glad this place isn't close to me cause I'd be eating here all the time!
Staff was very cautious and helpful. Service was fast. Gf drinks on the menu. The bun is not the same as the 5 Napkin Burger in NYC, which was disappointing, and they burgers didn't taste the same, but we're still good.
My family and I chose this place after reading an article on the Boston Visitors Guide website. It stated they had GF fries and chicken wings - not the case! The waitstaff were not very helpful or overly friendly! Only the beef burgers are guaranteed GF - they have GF buns (which were hard/dry) or lettuce wrap. No dedicated fryer. Unfortunately the burger was not even that great. Best part was coleslaw and guacamole!! Should've checked reviews here first.
Burgers not great. Staff not very knowledgable or competent. They Do have a dedicated fryer for fries but the staff said they didn't till I showed them the previous reviews. Then they said yes they do.
Restaurant is a bit expensive (for everyone, not just those avoiding pesky glutens) but food is worth it. Burger's are flavorful, buns okay (typical crumbly bun). Dedicated gf fryer is a added bonus for those longing fries. That said, if Boston Burger Co would get its act together and offer gf buns and dedicated fryer, I probably wouldn't return here. Burger co is cheaper and has better burgers and options.
This place is amazing! They don't have a dedicated menu, but are very helpful and knowledgeable. They have a dedicated fryer and the fries are delicious! I was able to customize any.burger to make it exactly the way I wanted and had no problems afterward. Definitely eating here again! Highly recommended.
I would never go here normally, but their burger is seriously worth putting up with the packed chain. Great staff, french fries, and the buns are unique and addicting!
When I went, they had just gotten an entirely brand new (regular) menu, so our waitress was still learning it. She was very helpful in finding out as much as she could about what was gluten-free and what wasn't, and really wanted to make sure I had a meal I would enjoy. It wouldnt be my first choice restraint, as I had limited options, but I would go back if my friends were eating there because I know I'd have great service and help finding GF meals.
We have a delicious, safe meal! They have a gluten free bun and dedicated fryer. Precautions are taken to avoid cross- contamination. When we walked in, we spoke with the manager and asked her to double check that our meal was prepared with thE precautions.
This place is HEAVEN!!! I just can't get enough!! I've been going once a week since I discovered it and never been disappointed... The staff is always very attentive and seems to be well informed on gluten sensitivity! They have a dedicated fryer for their fries, which are amazing! And their beef patties are so delicious, I wouldn't be mad if I had to eat it without a bun, which I don't because they have GF buns and I've been told by my non-gf friends that they taste just as god as their regular buns..
Was a little worried as the male host was clueless about "Celiac" and "cross contamination". Sat at the bar hoping to talk to a manager and met James the bartender. James kept this family of four here as his knowledge of celiac, gf, cross contamination and allergy friers assured us that our Celiac daughter could eat here worry free! Drinks by James are fantastic with some Stanley Cup hockey! Dinner should be amazing! One gf tuna burger, one gf avocado ranch burger, one gf allergy waffle fries and one gf regular fries. The gluten flouting in the family ...not sure what they ordered.
This rating is for the burger, which is the only thing I ever have at 5 Napkin! It is a massive, juicy, seriously delicious burger. I'm a very sensitive celiac and I've NEVER GOTTEN SICK IN THE SLIGHTEST! Huge!!! Knowledgeable wait staff, great drinks.
4th visit to 5Napkin always AWESOME. Staff is very knowledgeable about gluten on other allergies. I Love the dedicated fryer for fries (regular and sweet potatoes). My favorite burger is the 5Napkin. GF Buns for any burger. They take extra precautions in kitchen in minimize possibilities of cross contamination. A++++++
Pretty good. The gf buns were great and there is a dedicated fryer!!! Burgers are big. I only gave it 4 because the waitress was new and not trained on gf. I asked for the manager and he was knowledgable. Fries were hand cut and yummy. $55 for 2 kids burgers and 2 adult burgers (all came with fries). The kids meals do not come with drinks, it's an extra charge.
Lots of options that are not just a salad. Burgers are huge and the gf buns were good. Loved the fries! So happy to hear they have a dedicated gf fryer. Only thing I was bummed about was that I don't really eat beef burgers, I always go for turkey or veggie and both are not gluten free. Waitress was very knowledgeable and said the cook has celiac or knows someone who has celiac (can't remember) but made me way more comfortable knowing the cook knows to be extra careful.
We had the most amazing burgers and fries at 5 Napkin! They have a dedicated fryer and my celiac son LOVED being able to order fries at a restaurant again. Food was amazing and staff we educated about celiac disease. They also have GF beer for the adults. Can't wait to go back next time I am in New York.
Best gf burger I have tasted. Wait staff all knew their stuff and there's a separate fryer for fries. It's only their burgers which are gf on the menu but I asked if they could do any of the beef burgers as a chicken burger and this was no issue! Are here 4 times in my 1 week trip
So good! They are able to make any of their burgers GF and are also able to make a couple other dishes gluten free. The staff was very knowledgable and was even attentive enough to let me know which dishes my family had ordered I could and could not sample. The GF bun was one of the best I've had and the burger was DELICIOUS as were the fries! Would definitely come back!
Fantastic! Waitress was very knowledgable, she asked if it was preference or allergy, and suggested their expanded GF beer selection. They have 3 GF beers (and a handful of ciders!). Burgers are great and they had GF buns (even though they're not on the menu?).
I came here twice as a friend lives in the area. The first time the waiter seemed confused but I was fine. I thought the bun did not hold up well and it was nothing spectacular but it is a burger joint. I came here again as we needed a quick bite to eat later at night. First of all that time I had the hardest time ordering as the waiter could not tell me what I could eat and kept getting confused. He tried to tell me the fries were not GF as they were frozen and they did not know what the supplier did with them before they got there. Then when my food came out (someone else said to order the fries) I thought the bun was wrong. My waiter argued but I asked him to check. He said it was a regular bun, but not his fault as it was so dark in there he couldn't see my food. I got my "new" GF burger about 10 minutes later. I was afraid of the bun at that point even though it was the GF one so I just decided to eat the patty. I noticed it was very overdone, but then realized half way through, I think they just reheated the one that was on the regular bun! Sure enough a few hours later I was violently ill after only eating a few bites of food. I would not recommend this place to anyone who needs to avoid gluten.
