Went for dinner last night -- many GF options (including a GF banana pudding)! Crab dip was also delicious! Wait staff seemed knowledgable. We visited again 10/2017 and food was okay. I wasn't impressed with the quality.
To the point, no celiac issue. Server understood celiac disease concerns, and menu indicated items with no gluten ingredients. Ordered a southern salad with grilled shrimp and a moonshine cocktail, as it had the last chance of cross contamination. It was quite good. Seemed very busy, so a bit slow. Consider this if you have some time to wait.
the food was delicious, knowledgeable staff, fun decor, great live music
Great food! Chips are GF (not made in house). GF bread for sandwiches. Great options and wonderful, knowledgeable staff.
My little guy got the kids grilled cheese on GF bread and I had their GF meatloaf sandwich. Everything was so good, and I'm picky about meatloaf! Also, the mashed potatoes were probably the best I've ever had!!
Great restaurant! Fun environment, knowledgeable staff, and lots of GF options clearly marked. I have other food sensitivities and our waitress even went to consult the recipe book to make sure there were not any ingredients that I couldn't eat. I could not recommend it more.
This is a literal local gem!! Our family has been here for decades and no one had heard of this little spot. it's tucked away in a small Plaza, when you pull up you see a beautiful outdoor area. very cozy and quaint. We went for Sunday Brunch, and it was great everyone loved their entrees--except my husband's grits with his shrimp and grits was more like oatmeal. The flavor of the sausage and shrimp was spot on but the grits were a bit disappointment. We also tried their $3 mimosas. Instead of picking between their two options, we combined the cranberry and orange juice and coined it, "The Sunrise Mimosa". We will definitely be back here. They took our allergies very serious and everything is marked on the menu. Give this spot a shot!
Waiter was knowledgeable about GF choices. I had the Meat Loaf, very good taste, a little dry. Cole slaw also very good.
In fairness, we decided to pass. When we asked about their kitchen practices to avoid cross contamination the owner was honest and said they have no dedicated anything in the kitchen...that spatulas, tongs, etc are used on all orders so this place would be a nightmare for anyone who truly has Celiac. I applaud the owner's honesty and the menu looked wonderful, with little GF marks by many dishes, but the fact is that with their "very small kitchen" as he put it and their self-described lack of ANY attentiveness to the dangers of cross contamination, this could be a real, legitimate danger to anyone who is truly at the Celiac level of gluten intolerance.
Had a delicious Lowcountry Burger here. Was very pleased, food was awesome, didn't get sick.
Awesome locally owned restaurant with a gluten free bread and many gluten free options. I had the BBQ chicken sandwich with chips and it was amazing. Definitely recommend
Celiac knowledgeable servers. Menu items are marked GF. Lots of delicious options. Potato chip meatloaf is wonderful.
Service wasnt that great and about a 50 minute wait to be seated but if you're looking for a southern home cooked like meal, this is the place. Food was a bit pricey. I ordered the potato chip meatloaf and mash potatoes and it really was delicious. Would mostly recommend unless you don't have time to wait.
This place is sooo cute. Gluten free items are indicated on the menu. I got to wait on the bench swing while my take out order was prepared. I had the shrimp grits & side of apple raisin cole slaw. FYI service is slower but they do make note of this with signage since they have a small kitchen. Will be visiting again if I get to the chance!
Many gluten free options. My husband and I shared the Meatloaf and Shrimp and Grits. Both were excellent and I didn't get sick. I highly recommend.
I followed the recommended reviews and ordered the potato chip meatloaf and mashed potatoes - so wonderful! Service was great..appreciate the care they took and all the wonderful gf options! Thank you!
Great service and food. Large portions. Especially liked the potato chip meatloaf and banana pudding. Would definitely go back.
Wonderful place! Meatloaf was awesome and my husband, non celiac, had the gf pirloo and loved it! So many options. Gf buns for there sandwiches. What s treat to be able to have banana pudding that was delicious. Portions are large and staff is knowledge, friendly and helpful. A must visit.
I have celiac so I am extremely careful about where I dine out. Low Country has a phenomenal menu for both celiacs and the normal folks like my husband. I explained to the server that I was celiac and she explained to me that the owner has always tried to be gluten friendly but this past year has taken steps to make all of their sauces gluten free! You can get just about any sandwich GF and they use Udis bread. I had the BBQ meatloaf with apple slaw and creamcheese mashed potatoes. It was delicious! The meatloaf is made with potato chips instead of bread crumbs and the BBQ sauce was yummy and GF. They have a GF beer but I Opted for wine. I cannot wait to go back next week and try something else. And have their GF banana pudding made with homemade GF shortbread cookies!!!
Very good and no problems at all. We are here twice during our stay. Had the bbq chicken sandwich with pimento cheese the first time which was great! The second visit I ordered the burger and it wasn't the best (but that was my fault because the waitress warned me that the bun makes the burger and obviously I couldn't have the bun)
excellent. lots of gluten free menu choices and the food is great.
Great selection of gluten free options right inside the main menu
Excellent GF options. Food was very good. We ate dinner here twice on our last visit to the island. We will be back.
Extremely disappointed. Attempted dinner here and left because of the wait time. Went for lunch the next day. Ordered the crab dip and felt sick right after, too fishy. Ordered the potato chip meatloaf with cream cheese whipped potatoes. The meatloaf was cold and the potatoes were barely warm. Terrible service. They returned our meatloaf back and it was still not hot!! Barely ate the food, spent all that money and still got sick.
Cute dining spot. We ate brunch here on Sunday. The gf crab dip was rich and thick, cheesy and full of delicious crab. We had the gf shrimp and grits. The portions were generous and the dish was hot, and full of perfectly cooked shrimp and creole sausage. We had a gf banana pudding. I did not care for it as it had a strong cream cheese taste rather than a whipped creme/ pudding flavor that I am used to. It was served in a mason jar (so cute), had fresh banana slices and was not overly sweet. My daughter really liked it. The host and server were attentive but not overly friendly. It was a scorcher of an afternoon hitting nearly 100 degrees when we arrived and we sat outside in the shady patio. Even though it was lovely, it was just so hot. There were other patrons there with children playing games. This place is charming, casual with an authentic atmosphere. There are lots of gf choices sited on the regular menu.
Excellent food (we had shrimp and grits, and a shrimp burger), friendly staff, charming outdoor dining. But get there early!
Lots of great GF options! I had the crab dip and shrimp burger on GF bread and the waitress (who was extremely friendly) confirmed that the burger was cooked in a separate pan and not on the general grill. A must try!
Menu is clearly marked with gfree options...lots gluten free options. Very knowledgable staff too. Everything we had was delicious! The meatloaf was so good!!
Great GF choices! Keeps us coming back! They even made my son a special GF banana pudding.
Fantastic! So many GF choices and staff was very helpful. Definitely will go back.
Great service. Fantastic food. The gf shrimp & grits were amazing! My husband had a gf meatloaf sandwich and it was great too! I'm extremely sensitive and I had no issues after eating here. We will likely go back before we leave.
The food was wonderful, whole family loved it & GF options were great!!! Nice atmosphere, small. Got there at 7:30 and waited til 9 for a table, but worth it! waite
Great food and great service! They had a large variety of gluten free options and absolutely delicious food. Get there early as they do have very limited seating. We got there at 5pm and had to wait about 30-45 minutes.
Lowcountry backyard restaurant is the best restaurant in Hilton head. My husband had the shrimp and grits that was the best he's ever had; I ordered the GlutenFree meatloaf grits and greens Yum! Then we shared the banana pudding, Wow, was that great. We also had a very knowledgeable and energetic waitress. The atmosphere is cozy and unique and everything is homemade.
Great meatloaf made with potato chips instead of breadcrumbs! Several good sides, too. Not a lot of options for gluten free, but what they have is yummy! They also fixed me a great banana pudding without the wafers.
quaint atmosphere, homecooked food, best bananaa pudding. live music sometimes. try the moonshine cocktails.
