Delicious food. Well prepared. Knowledgeable staff. Square plates for Gluten free. Didn't get sick.
Well that sucked. Read the reviews here. Asked for a manager beforehand. Eric/alex the manager said absolutely safe here. I explained this is a serious disease. I will react to cross contamination. He assured me he would take care of it. Sat down, waitress came over said you have an allergy I said well yes I guess it’s celiac disease and need to take extra precaution with cross contamination. She left the table and sent another waiter over. Don’t worry we have this this is Burton grill. Ok great I’ll have a Tito’s no lime with sparking bottle water. Glass arrives with lime. Can we have a glass for our water. Sure thing. Would you like to order now. Sure, I’m going to make this easy I say, I’ll have the MLT burger, with out broccoli is there anything else I can have with that. Oh yes he says there are only 3 things here you can’t have. You can have all the fries. Really I say none of them have been cooked in the same fryer as gluten foods. No not at all you can eat any of them. Wow that’s great. 40 minutes later our food arrives, ( still no water) a burned burger with broccoli. At that point I said are you kidding if you can’t get a no lime correct, not bring a water glass, and put broccoli instead of fries I’m thinking you can’t prevent cross contamination. No trust that you can get this right and I won’t be sick for two weeks. If you can’t do it just say you can’t do it. Headed back to my hotel to eat my safe food. And share this review with my celiac group that reaches over 800 people. Shame on you Burton Grill Shame on the waitress, the waiter and the manager for not doing their job to make sure the plate was safe.
LOVE this place. Before even leaving the hostess stand, as they were grabbing menus to take us to our table they asked in a friendly way "would anyone like a gluten free menu" without any prompts. Wow!!! They also cater very similarly to other allergens and eating styles. The menu its self was jam-packed with awesome options that were GF (it wasn't a ton different from the regular menu). The waiters seemed very well educated to answer concerns, and my coworker that had a fish allergy - he was able to calm her fears! All allergen/special orders like GF come out specifically from a manager (be understanding, your food may come a minute or two later.... safety is more important here... dont complain!!!). Food was awesome, very awesome! No problems, no concerns. Worth every penny, and the experience was so awesome. Probably my favorite local spot right now.

Has a separate gluten free menu but make everything from scratch so if gluten isn’t your only issue or you are dining with someone who has different challenges, everyone can have an amazing experience. Do this. You won’t regret it.
What a great place. Just opened but they seem to have their act together. We had the maple chicken sandwich on an Udi’s bun & shared the chicken risotto. My step-son ordered steak off the kids menu which they made sure was gluten free. Very happy with the service & nice ambiance. 👏👏👏👏👏
New restaurant. Founder has celiac, Grill is gluten free, dedicated fryer, Kids menu, pasta, chicken tenders, fries 90% of their menu is gluten free.
very good food but is very pricey. i love their gf calamari. :) Weve come a few times. im allergic to soy also. one time the risotto bothered me but another time I was ok. always tastes great
From the second you arrive you are in gluten safe zone. They ask if you want gluten free menu. When you go to order they ask if there are allergies and explain they are an allergy safe restaurant. When you say celiac and order they say your order will be on square plate and delivered by a manager to know your food is safe. And the food is yummy! Cauliflower and zuchinini appetizers are so yummy. Fryers are all gf can’t wait to come back.
Fantastic experience- perfect for gluten free/allergy friendly dining without feeling awkward/uncomfortable- perfect for business meals or dating- the new Burton's in Shrewsbury knocks it out of the park with a great atmosphere and excellent service. Variety of menu options with a from scratch kitchen that can handle almost any request- they also have a dedicated gluten free fryer so sweet potato fries are a tasty and safe option!!!
Burton's is the best GF friendly restaurant in CT. Just about everything on the menu can come GF. The staff is very knowledgeable and GF orders come on a square plate, while non-GF gets a round plate. The fried calamari is my favorite, but you can't go wrong with anything on the menu.
Just opened last week and seems like a really good option and, best of all, got carryout last night and didn't get glutened! They have an allergy prep area, a manager handles allergy food, and a dedicated fryer. They also have some Paleo and vegetarian options. I had the knife and fork burger and a few bites of my husband's risotto and had no problem!
Went to Burtons for the first time while visiting my daughter in Charlotte! I was so impressed with their GF offerings and how knowledgeable everyone was there. I didn't feel embarrassed to ask for GF like I do at other restaurants! My chicken sandwich was delicious and I was quite surprised with how good the bun was. Even my daughter who tried it liked it! Will be back!
Superb establishment for gluten-free food consumption. The hostess offered a gluten-free menu without me having to ask. A few gluten-free items that stood out to me on the menu include: CRAB CAKES, bread before the meal, General Tso’s chicken, and calamari. 10/10 would recommend, great environment and even better food.
My absolute favorite GF restaurant. The food is always amazing. So many GF options virtually everything on the regular menu is offered in a GF version. Staff is super careful about keeping your good GF. A manager usually brings the GF good out separately so you knows it’s GF.
Excellent for my very contamination sensitive gluten free boyfriend. The owner is celiac too and you can tell. The waiters are clearly trained, they confirm specific kitchen utensils, grilling area, and frier specifically for celiacs.
Great place for a celiac! The waitress was great about handling allergies and my food was brought out separately. On the higher end of the price range but with so many options of food to choose from and the special care they take its worth it.
I’ve been eating at Burton’s since being diagnosed Celiac 4 years ago and never had to worry. This was my first visit to this location. I informed my server of my need for gluten free and my burger was brought out on a square plate ( which is how Burton’s identifies allergy plates). I was suspicious of the bun and had my non Celiac partner try it who confirmed it was not gluten free. We sent it back and the manager who brought out my meal apologized profusely but for a restaurant praising itself on allergy accommodation this is an alarming mixup especially since it appears the last reviewer had the same problem. I’m lucky we caught this before I ate it and got sick but this definitely erodes my confidence.
100% celiac friendly. Hostess asked us if we needed a gluten free menu (my husband has celiac) before we even had to ask. Loads of delicious gluten free options. Wait staff is very knowledgeable. My husband always has to worry about cross contamination and he had no issues.
This place is supposed to be the gold standard for celiacs but I’m not sure. We told the waitress at least 5 times that our son had celiac and his order needed to be GF. She repeated it back to us. Yet when his burger came out, it was not on a GF bun. They apologized profusely (although didn’t credit his meal). Anyway, the lesson is, if you have celiac you always have to be vigilant.
I had previously reviewed this location and given it five stars based on multiple visits all with great food and service as well as super safe for celiacs. Unfortunately my last visit was a totally different experience. When we ordered appetizers the server told me that I could eat the spring rolls even though they would not be on a square plate because almost everything the restaurant makes is naturally gluten free. I told the server that the spring rolls are not gluten free. Luckily I knew that but another patron might not have known. The three of us ordered the haddock with the crab topping. Mine was ordered gluten free and served to me on a square plate by the server. All the meals looked the same although the other two were not gluten free and the topping was not gluten free. I do not know if the wrong fish may have been put on my plate or if mine was just not made gluten free. I also had calamari and pumpkin brûlée both of which I was told are gluten free no matter who orders it. Based on how sick I got I don't believe it was a case of cross contamination. I feel like I was served gluten. I did talk to a couple Managers last week but they were not able to determine what happened. I know we always take a chance when we go out to eat but I had always considered this place to be my safe place. It was my favorite restaurant and we would drive an hour so I could eat here. I have not eaten out since and right now I am reluctant to do so. This is a restaurant that I know does take allergies seriously but they definitely had an off night the night I visited.
Shortly after you walk in the front door, they introduce themselves as specializing in food allergies, and support that statement throughout the meal. Fabulous selections cocktails, appetizers, entrees, and desserts. DEDICATED FRYOLATOR FOR FRENCH FRIES! We have eaten there several times with no issues. Recommend it highly.
GF menu and all allergy meals brought out by the kitchen manager. They come out and talk to you and cook it on different areas in the kitchen. The plates are diff sized so you know there is no mix up in any way. They made custom dishes of stuff that wasn't on the menu. COMPLETELY SAFE.
Our first time here. I have celiac and I was so excited to try it out from the reviews. I got the crab cakes and Sangria mimosa, so good. My husband got a burger from the regular menu and said it was the best burger he ever had. We will definitely be back. Our waiter was very knowledgeable about gluten sensitivity. The manager even brings out the gluten free order to your table. It is a more pricey restaurant but so worth it to be gluten free. Definitely a date night atmosphere.....
Burton's Grill really knows how to do gluten free safe for celiacs. I've eaten at another location multiple times never having a problem. The food and service at the Shrewsbury location were excellent. They lost a star because they have chosen to not offer complementary bread with herb butter at new locations. Although I was so excited that there was going to be a location closer to my home, the lack of their delicious bread will keep me from returning.
This is apparently our second time going to this restaurant. We actually didn't remember going there the first time, until we saw a previous review we had left on a different website - both of these occasions were while traveling. To put it simply, they don't disappoint. I have Celiac and thus must eat gluten free - not because it's the "cool" thing to do, but because I'll get sick otherwise. First, the restaurant is VERY accommodating. They have LOTS of options for appetizers, entrees, and desserts. One of the best out there. Additionally, our server tonight was Eric (Erik?). He was Very good. He was extremely knowledgeable of the menu and Celiac/gluten free dining needs. He was able to explain and suggest dinner options like he wrote the menu himself. He even suggested I try a combination of risotto and sauce that I would not have tried otherwise, but at his suggestion, it was delicious!! Kudos to Eric. Kudos to Burtons. If in the area again, we will certainly return!
Update: We ate here again tonight and our service was even better than last time! Our server, Eric, was excellent and very knowledgeable about gf. He explained the processes at Burton’s for ensuring gf every time and was so accommodating to us. We felt very safe eating here and our food was wonderful. We shared the steak kabobs (menu special) and the California chicken sandwich. We also tried the torte again and had the ‘trio’ which consisted of chocolate cake, mascarpone cheesecake with blueberry compote, and a berry cheesecake. Each came in a little single-serve jar. The experience was excellent and definitely safe for celiac!! Original review: Boyfriend had swordfish risotto and I had a steak sandwich. Meal was good but the dessert is where it's at!! We had the chocolate torte with raspberry sauce and ice cream and also the pecan praline tart (?) which was warmed and deliciously smothered in caramel, served with ice cream. We would go back for the dessert alone!
We've eaten at other Burton's locations before and we're so happy to have one relatively nearby. The Shrewsbury Burton's is as safe and delicious as their other locations. The hostess asks if you need a gluten free menu and the server asks if anyone at the table has any allergies or dietary restrictions. The manager brings out the GF food and it's served on square plates. When the manager brought our food he said, "No cross contact." 😁 I feel as safe as I can eating out when I eat at Burton's. Burton's is a scratch kitchen, so the food is especially tasty. The rosemary parmesan fries are delicious! Very much celiac safe!
I had forgotten about this place when we got here. After a 20 min search online under hangry conditions, I finally came across Burtons again. I was SO RELIEVED! They really are a rare treat. The manager prepared my meals and brought them to me. They take every precaution to keep you safe and fed well. I can't say enough good about their food and service!
Separate GF menu offering paleo and vegan options! Super accommodating with allergies and are sure to avoid any cross contamination by having designated plates to signify allergy as well as the manager bringing the food out and reiterating the allergy. 4 stars bc alcoholic drinks are hit or miss. Sometimes outstanding and then just flat out poorly made😱 but food is a definite go! Tacos, Fries, Fried calamari, Beet and goat cheese salad are my go toos😋
Staff asks right away if there are food allergies. You get a special plate and manager brings food with gloves.
If you have an allergy of any sort I highly recommend them! Several Gluten Free options From your normal salad options to crab cakes!!! Very allergen conscious from wait staff to kitchen, kitchen is open so you can hear them discuss their allergy protocols. Very impressed!
