I have eaten at Cooper’s Hawk Annapolis many times over the years. I just ate there for the second time since my celiac diagnosis. The menu is extensive, and their recommended wine pairings are helpful. There is an actual physical gf menu. It has a number of good offerings. Last time the salad I ordered came out with croutons by mistake. The server was very embarrassed and said she threw it out herself and spoke with the chef. I appreciated the server’s concern. It was a good meal and evening.
Fortunately this time there weren’t any hiccups. The server said she marked my order “gluten allergy”, which would mean it would be cooked separately. The server brought me warm gf bread, a good Cabernet S., a kale caesar side salad and, for the main course, a Black and Bleu cheeseburger, grilled squash and fresh fruit. It was all delicious. I may join their wine club.
I went here with my boyfriend recently (I am gluten free he is not) and all the food was really delicious and I did not get sick. There was a close call with one of the desserts. My boyfriend and i ordered two dessert to share and one was this s’mores thing. When they brought out the s’mores one original (it was a different waiter bring out the food then taking our order) it had graham cracker crumbs as a whole layer of it and that was not mentioned on the gluten free menu. So I waited for our waiter to come back and as soon as he saw it he said “oh they brought you the wrong one” and immediately took it way and brought us a new dessert. And he then also apologized later on. And funny enough that dessert ended up being the one thing me and my boyfriend didn’t like too much. It was too much marshmallow and too sweet for our taste. Everything else was delicious though. I will continue to come here and just be cautious. Also coming at a less busy time is probably a good idea cause it was quite busy when we went which I am sure is what led to the mistake. But in terms of the other food, they bring you a gluten free roll that was probably the best gf dinner roll I ever had. Then my bf and me shared the drunken shrimp which was delicious, I wish I saved some of my bread to dip in the sauce. I got the braised beef risotto which was so good. And for dessert other than the s’mores thing we got the salted caramel crème brûlée which was really good.
Starting the review off by saying I did not have a gluten reaction. The lettuce wraps were very good. They also brought out a gluten free bun instead of their regular bread for me. I also got one of the chicken dishes, I cannot remember which one. Mine was just ok. However, my husband got the gluten free beef tip risotto and we had it taken off the bill because it was so greasy!
I would give them another try because I did not get sick.
I am so sad to post this but they need to be more careful here. They can tout their menu is gluten free but when they drop off our food and one of the items was NOT gluten free as promised that was a HUGE fail. And telling me they can bring medical staff does NOT help. It’s awful to know your kid got glutened at a place you trusted and all you can do is wait for her to get sick. We’re in the middle of one of the worst days of her life since her diagnosis and I am so angry. Taking the price of one meal off the bill is NOT enough. You can’t sell that you’re careful when you don’t go absolutely above and beyond to be sure you actually are. Will never ever eat her again and that’s a huge shame
Had the sausage and chicken GF pasta. Great tasting food, although came out a bit on the cooler side. The service was great until it got mildly busy, then slowed significantly. Luckily it’s a beautiful spot and was nice to sit for a while! The do have a separate GF with lots of delicious-sounding options and plenty of desserts too! Took the Napa Chicken Salad home for lunch the next day, and it was absolutely amazing!
Extensive GF options to choose from. The fact that they had four desserts to choose from was really nice and it wasn’t limited to creme brûlée or ice cream! My salad wasn’t impressive for the cost but I would definitely return to try one of their other options. I picked a salad ‘cause I knew I wanted to have dessert ;) Highly recommend the s’more budino for dessert.
Cooper’s Hawk is my go-to for fancy GF food. There is a separate GF menu and staff are knowledgeable. You can also order off the regular menu and have substitutions and omissions to make it GF. The candied bacon and artisan cheeses with a GF bun substitution is a must for the appetizer course. Mexican drunken shrimp and chopped wedge salad are a nice fresh duo to start a meal, but may end up filling you by the main course. Don’t miss out on trying the shrimp and scallop risotto and finish up with the flourless chocolate torte.
While they do have a GF menu, beware that waitstaff is not always knowledgeable. If you have other allergies, such as dairy, forget it. Not a good experience. Wine is good though!
They have an extensive GF menu but no systems in place to take any particular care of customers with celiac. I was brought regular food and told, "Everything on that plate is gluten safe." Luckily there were other burgers at our table and I could tell my roll was not GF, but I don't trust this restaurant & do not recommend. They need to review their processes.
Very knowledgeable staff. Free gluten free bread. Dedicated fryer for fries. Gf gnocchi and buns. Felt safe here as a celiac and had a good amount of options.
Cooper’s Hawk is amazing for someone with Celiac Disease! They have a two-sided gluten free menu, their staff is extremely knowledgeable and the food is always excellent! I have eaten here more times than I can count and I have never gotten sick! We need more restaurants like Cooper’s Hawk!
Excellent!! Huge two page gf menu that’s been updated recently. I had Napa chicken salad (my go to) & salmon. Love the gf bread they bring you. I also love the Parmesan crusted chicken they make. 4 delicious dessert options (I love the s’more one & the truffles) This place has the most extensive gf menu I’ve ever seen & it’s all so delicious! This is my favorite restaurant. Highly recommend!!!
