Ordered a cauliflower crust pizza that I was told was gluten free. Trial and error says it was not. My reaction was bad enough that I think it had real gluten in the dough, not just cross contamination.
I didn't try the gluten free crust, but my order was not marked or distinguished in any way as gluten free.
The procedures seemed safe but something went wrong for me. I ordered the Railroad grade pizza on the cauliflower crust. I was told that the crust was gluten free as well all the toppings on that particular one. I notified the server that I have Celiac and requested that she mark the order as gluten allergy. The pizza tasted very good but I assume that I had some cross contamination. I have over 1/2 leftover that I had planned to make a couple other meals out of. Hopefully some of my family will eat my leftovers. I have come back to edit the next morning. It possibly wasn’t gluten because my husband ate regular gluten pizza and his stomach hurt last night. I have come back to update again. I didn’t want to waste my leftovers so I broke over and ate them since it seemed like a small cross contact issue from my initial reactions. I figured the leftover portion could possibly be safe. I ate 3 left over pieces and felt fine with those.
Before sitting I asked the hostess if the gf pizza is cooked on the same surface as the regular pizzas. She confirmed it’s on its own surface in a separate gf oven. Our waiter was also very knowledgeable, he informed me the only pizza I couldn’t have was one with meatballs on it. We got 2 pizzas, one with the regular gf crust and one with gf cauliflower crust. Cauliflower was definitely better! Pizzas were delicious! Although it was pricey, $27 for each 12” pizza. Safe and delicious meal though. No symptoms, will definitely go back.
Tonight I walked in the restaurant after seeing such awesome reviews and spoke with the manager who kindly explained how they take all the right precautions to prevent CC. Feeling comfortable, I ordered the Pandora’s Box and then told the waitress I had Celiac. When the pizza was brought out, I tested it with my Nima which came back gluten found. Of course, there is always a risk when ordering out, ESPECIALLY with pizza due to the ovens, airborne flour, etc.. but it was the attitude of the company that left a bad taste in my mouth. The manager came back out and I could tell she was already annoyed. She basically said that the kitchen took all the precautions and started speaking over me when I politely tried to give input as to maybe what could be causing this (I mentioned spice blends in tomato sauce, cheese bin that’s shared between gluten and GF pizzas, etc), she continued to cut me off, ignore my questions and insisted that they had done everything 100% right and that ‘everyone else that had come in with Celiac was very happy with their meal’.. I said that I really did appreciate their efforts but even with precautions taken, sometimes these things unfortunately happen. We all know that even the best of restaurants can have off nights... She then cut me off again to ask if I wanted to eat the pizza and when I said no, she took the pizza and walked away. We were stunned. All we hoped for was an apology, but we never even offered an one. Off night or not, there is no excuse to be blatantly rude to a customer. Especially about something so serious. Be cautious when eating here!
Today I ordered a gluten free pizza from Extreme pizza. I was diagnosed with celiac disease 20 years ago and frequently use the NIMA to determine if the food is 100% gluten free. When I got the pizza home I used the NIMA to see if the pizza was free of gluten and it was! And, the pizza was delicious. Thank you Extreme Pizza! Rose
We had great food and service when visiting here! Our waitress was not from the US and was brand new so we had a slight language barrier while trying to discuss gf options. She got her manager to help us and he was very kind and reassured us we could have a safe gf experience. He took our order and we got our food quickly. We all enjoyed our pizza, thought it had good flavor, and our celiac did not get sick. I will admit, it was not a busy time at the restaurant when we went so that could have helped give us a safer experience. Whether that contributed or not, we still walked away happy after a great, gluten free pizza :-)
This place is not celiac friendly. They say they are explain how they clean everything and nothing touches but my daughter was sick instantly from eating here. It is definitely not celiac friendly.
Wonderful experience - we went about 4pm before it got too busy. We did have to specify when discussing with the manager and server to use fresh containers for toppings but they were very accommodating and helpful. The manager said she would make it herself to ensure it was safe. She then confirmed she put my daughters gf pizza together with fresh toppings on special pan for gf before they started the rest of pizzas to reduce risk from flour they use to make the regular pizza dough. My daughter said it was one of the best pizzas she's had and she's been eating the leftovers for the past few days.
The pizza is very good here and you can have it delivered as well! The only thing is you have to call them because they don’t have it set up online yet. I did not have a reaction after eating the amazing pizza. I will say that the price is a little high ($18 for a 12” plus $1.60 per topping) so know what you are getting into.
After a long day of traveling, I turned to my trusty find me GF app to find a GF pizza to be delivered to our hotel. Ordered a GF pepperoni and mushroom pizza that was by far the absolute best GF pizza I have ever had! It's a perfect size for 2 people (or 3 small eaters). Do yourself a favor and order pizza from extreme pizza while in Myrtle Beach, you will not be disappointed!
One of the best GF pizzas that I've eaten since being diagnosed with Celiacs! The ingredients were fresh and the crust/sauce was delicious. When I told them about my allergy, the waiter got the owner and he spoke with me, ensuring my allergy was the top priority. That's amazing service!!
A very friendly staff plus their pizza is amazing! My kids enjoyed their traditional crust and my husband and I had their gluten free crust and I can honestly say its the best gluten free crust we have ever had!
Two out of four of us dining there are celiac. Pizza was excellent gf. No reactions. Server advised they take gf seriously. Already went back a second time on this vacation and likely two more times before leaving. Clean. Best gf pizza I had and was 12" so lots to enjoy. Only about $3.00 more for gf.
I had the best pizza since celiac diagnosis. Great menu with many pizza choices. I had the Pandora's Box pizza with artichoke hearts, spinach, fresh basil, sundried tomatoes, feta, mozzarella, garlic and oregano. The staff and manager were wonderful. I went with four of my gluten eating friends and we all loved it and can't wait to return! Two had regular crust pizzas and two had different types of calzones. It is a nice, clean, friendly restaurant with plenty of tables inside and outside with great food on the lagoon at Broadway at the Beach.
The crust is much better than most gluten free pizza crust I come across
