Just be sure you understand the difference between the GF sauces and the non GF sauces. They're internal soy sauce we were told by one location is GF, where the sauces made with generic soy sauce are not. But it was a fun and yummy place to eat. They clean the grill and use clean spatulas to prepare your meal.
We have had good luck here. Tell them you have a gluten "allergy", and they'll clean the griddle extra well, set up a "fence" to Cordone off your food, and use a separate spatula for your food. It's also a plus that you fill up your Own plate and watch the cooking process.
I have eaten here a number of times, and at other locations. If you ask them, they will provide you with fresh Pad Thai noodles. they also give you a special colored bowl, to indicate an allergy. sauces are marked if they are GF or not. when you take bowl to cooks, tell them it's an allergy and they will clean (thoroughly) a spot for you and use clean utensils and plates. communication is key! Also, if you tell your server you have celiac disease, they will pre warn the cooks.
My wife and four kids all have dairy and gluten allergies. All of their sauces are gluten free and most of their menu (meats/vegetables) are as well. You'll only need to avoid the straight soy sauce on the table and the appetizers. The wait staff was kind enough to explain all of the menu options and the cooks took extra time to clean the cooking surface before using. Their cleaning included two times over with the scraper and then once with steel wool. They annexed the surface physically from the other foods and used clean utensils. The manager has grandchildren with allergies and was supervising the process for us. We will return.
Love HuHot. All sauces are now gf. They also have one noodle that is gf. They do a great job of cleaning the grill, using separate utensils etc. The problem is the noodles got mixed and there was noodles on the sauces limiting what I could use on my food.
I have Celiacs and had a great experience here. I came during a slow time and they gave me a separate colored bowl and let me know what I could and could not have. I noticed that some of the noodles crossed over into the gluten free noodles so I avoided that section altogether. The cook cleaned a spot for my meals on the grill, sectioned it off and used newly clean utensils. I did not have any adverse reactions but please be aware that it is in a way a buffet, as you the veggies, meats, noodles and sauces are all out for everyone to add what they want so there is the potential for cross contamination.
I had an excellent meal here, as someone with celiacs the grill masters were great about thoroughly cleaning an area on the grill, using new utensils, and keeping everything separate. This location is also amazing about making sure the sauces and toppings on the bar are placed carefully so as to avoid cross contamination. Coming from someone who likes to eat quite a bit of food there aren't many buffets I can still enjoy so I was happy to finally find one!
It's fantastic!!! The atmosphere is alive and fun at dinner. The lines go down fast and the food is nicely organized and great for Gluten free. Just tell the waiter that you have a gluten allergy and they will give you a purple bowl and that bowl signifies that they clean the burner before they cook your food and they use new spatulas. You pick your own food and you see them cook it. It's fantastic and I have a serious allergy. I have not been Glutened by this restaurant.
While HuHot tries and has gluten free sauces, I saw customers let their ladles touch their noodles and saw noodles dip into sauces. I ended up eating a bowl of rice. As long as they have sauces in open containers it can't be risked. A shame, because I loved the place when I could still eat gluten.
Their employees do not handstand cross contamination at all. I got sick within 15 minutes of eating and my husband saw (after I already had gotten my food and eaten) the employee refilling the noodles and veggies stick her gloved hand in the regular noodles and then immediately touch the gluten free noodles and vegetables. if you are allergic or celiac stay away. it is really too bad too because the grill chefs really try hard by cleaning grill completely.
Staff was not knowledgeable of what contained gluten and had to go ask, but once they confirmed what was safe, it was a good experience. They'll clean the grill and separate it from touching anything else. There are rice noodles and even gluten free soy sauce! (You have to ask for it) I have celiacs and didn't get sick.
I wish I could recommend this place. They appear to be trying to be GF friendly, but the risk of cross-contamination is still quite high. As far as I can tell, they have made the switch to all GF sauces, and they will clean off a section of the grill for you and use dedicated utensils if you ask. However, their rice noodles are right next to their wheat noodles, and do occasionally commingle. It's my kids' favorite place to eat out, but I have gotten sick on multiple occasions.
Fast, cheap, healthy. They will clean off a section of grill while you watch before cooking your food. I just give them a heads up that I have an "allergy bowl" before I start loading up, and they usually have the grill cleaned off before I get there. They'll designate one cook to handle your food, building a wall for you food using clean spatulas and using different utensils. I've been going for years, and *one* time they accidentally used the wrong spatula on my food while I wasn't looking. (They were *very* busy.) They immediately scraped off the grill and asked me to bring a new bowl up and skip the line. I've also been told that if I was uncomfortable with cross-contamination from menu items coming from a buffet, I can ask to have fresh ingredients brought from the back. They do a good job of arranging GF options on the other end from common allergens.
I went into HuHot today and the service was 5 star! I told our server that I had a gluten allergy, that I could not eat anything with wheat. He handed me a list of all the items they have at the food bar showing all the allergens and what was gluten free. Apparently all there sauces are gluten free which is great! He also went to the back to get me some special bowls that are separate from all the other bowls. He informed the kitchen staff and they cleaned the entire grill top for me and used cleaned spatulas for just my food. It was like I had my own personal cook/kitchen. They were very accommodating and very friendly! I was recently diagnosed with celiac. This place is on my restaurant food list! Good place if you're a celiac!
The good, the staff was knowledgeable about allergies and cross contamination. Brought menu with allergens. They have gluten free soy sauce, and can bring rice. They clean the area pretty thoroughly before cooking food. Use different clean utensils. Food was decent. The bad, the rice noodles are right next to the wheat noodles. I saw some wheat noodles end up in the rice noodles. The sauces are all right next to each other, so there is a high chance of contamination. Even though they clean the grill , they are cooking next to other foods that are splattering.
I am shocked that anyone finds this place safe to eat when they are gluten free! We went in so hopeful and our hopes were raised even further when they mentioned the care they go to in making sure it was gf. The special bowls, the dividers, scrubbing down the grill etc. But then the server mentioned no cross contamination of shell fish. That was the first red flag. Shell fish are not a worry for people who are gluten free. Perhaps he just mentioned it because of shell fish allergies not meaning to imply that it had anything to do with gf. They were careful to bring us a soy sauce that was gf, but then told us it was safe to eat their sauces; most contain regular soy sauce. What the server and manager told us are different than what it says on their allergy guide that can be found on line. They said their potstickers were gf; they clearly have wheat! Their allergy guide claims that all wheat on their menu has been processed to meet FDA guidelines. WHAT?! Anyone, who knows anything about gluten and gluten free knows that is IMPOSSIBLE! Their menu is laden with gluten and is NOT safe for people with celiac and gluten intolerance. When we talked to the server and manager about this they just shrugged and said that's how they were trained and no one has ever gotten sick there. There are no FDA guidelines for restaurants; only processed foods marked gf. We chose not to eat here; we want our daughter to have a good first week at college and not be dealing with being glutened. I'm only giving one star because it has to have at least one!

Ask for them to clean a spot on grill. They use different utensils and have a list of gluten free sauces.
