Got sick right after eating here
— Gluten-free items are marked on the main menu
i informed the waiter that i have celiac and they proceeded to bring chips and queso as the free appetizer, most of which i ate, then later found out if had gluten in it. i also ordered chips and guacamole off the menu because it was labeled gluten free (and always is) and it came out with flour chips which i didn’t realize until i took a bite. when i confronted the manager about it, she denied all blame and refused to apologize or acknowledge that she messed up.

Enchiladas suizas failed a Nima test. The staff was very concerned and said they would look into the kitchen to find the cause.

We have been in town 4 days and have had 3 meals at Miguel’s. They have a knowledgeable and friendly staff. Definitely willing to help you with suggestions. Highly recommend! Thank you for being here for us!

I asked repeatedly if they had gluten-free tortilla chips. I asked pointedly if they had a dedicated fryer for their chips & they repeated multiple times that they did. But I was still contaminated last night. Feeling really sick last night & sick today. I haven’t felt like this in a couple months. I’m very disappointed

The staff is knowledgeable and friendly. Most of the menu can be made gluten free. (The white sauce they bring to the table before your server arrives is NOT gluten free but the chips and salsa are:). My husband and I both loved the food and atmosphere.
Yes
Excellent chips & guac, yummy food, & well informed staff. I said I was gluten free and could they change gloves and the waitress said “is it celiac?” Always makes me feel better when they know that!

The chips are fried in their own separate fryer, so they are safe! Be careful of the white sauce though, that has wheat in it and is brought to the table. Staff was very knowledgeable and accommodating!
My favorite restaurant in San Diego! I’ve only been to the Old Town and Carlsbad locations. The Old Town location is amazing when it comes to gluten free. The Carlsbad location is not so be careful there. At Old Town, the chips are safe and almost the entire menu can be made gluten free!

Got glutened. We were given chips salsa and “white sauce” (which I believed to be cheese) when we sat down. I asked if the chips were corn and not flour and was told they were. I didn’t think to ask about what we both believed was cheese. When our waitress came I asked for a gf menu, which she brought me. When my gf food was brought out by the manager, he asked if we wanted more chips and we said yes. He asked me if I had a sensitivity or an allergy, I said allergy. He then was like I hope someone told you that you couldn’t have the white sauce. At first I thought it was joking, but I realized soon that he wasn’t. Once he realized I had been eating it he felt horrible. He was extremely concerned and kept checking in with me to apologize for the rest of the meal. Even though I said he didn’t have to, when I gave my card to pay he covered the cost of my meal.
The food itself was very good. But make sure you do NOT have white sauce when given chips. You get it before your server comes.
We settled on this restaurant after reading the reviews. We weren’t disappointed!! They have a separate gluten free menu and they prepare all their gluten free food in a separate area in the kitchen. Tortilla chips are gluten free and cooked in a designated fryer.

Gf menu, and super knowledgeable staff. Even working my dairy issues, they were quick to make recommendations and very friendly.
I came to San Diego a few years ago and stopped here twice the same week. I feel like I could eat here everyday.
Great food. Very well-trained staff. Separate gf menu.

Multiple severe allergies (gluten and nuts) and this was a great experience. Chips are fried in a separate fryer and they have a separate gluten/wheat free menu. The staff is also very knowledgeable and helpful. Definitely recommend - food was delicious, very kid friendly!

I was excited to come here after seeing the great reviews. I notified the server ahead of time about my celiacs. They brought me layered tortillas with flour and corn. I didn't notice until I had already eaten the top corn tortilla and then saw the flour tortillas under it.

Yummy and safe for Celiacs. Great food and separate menu for gluten free. Highly recommended. Will return for sure.

Great variety on menu. Yummy food!! I had the taco/enchilada combo. So good and I felt great.

Our server Erica was absolutely amazing, very informative and always make sure all the food stays separate from the rest! My husband and I are both celiac sensitive and truly enjoyed our time. This place is worth every penny.

Staff was very knowledgeable. Great GF menu. Dedicated fryer for chips. Great atmosphere. My son and I have Celiac, my daughter and husband do not; we all enjoyed our meals!

The server was incredibly knowledgeable. Manager brought out our celiac order himself. Gluten free menu. HIGHLY recommend

Have a pretty extensive gluten free menu. All of the staff made sure to point out their cheese dip was not gluten free so it was good to know even the people bringing chips and salsa were aware. Will definitely come back!

“Wheat Free” Menu. Ordered salad with seared tuna because it sounded safest. Was very busy but waiter assured me they were familiar with procedure for gluten allergies and would inform manager. No reaction.

As soon as I asked for the GF menu the hostess informed everyone under the sun about my allergy. They treated me courteously and respectfully, not like I was a problem like most places do. I was so stoked with the service and the large GF menu. There were so many options for me to choose from. Good was delicious and quick. We will for sure be back. My husband even talked with the manager to let him know that we appreciated how allergy-friendly they were.

This restaurant was great! I have a gluten allergy and they have a complete gluten free menu! When I asked for the menu the hostess informed me that the cheese dip was not gluten free as did the bus boy and my waitor. The food was delicious, the service was speedy and courteous!
Excellent service! Very celiac friendly! My family are across the street at cafe coyote. When the waiter said the salsa was NOT gluten free I wet across to Miguel's to get my meal. I'll definitely go back!!

Great gluten free menu and very helpful staff. The margarita's were great. Chips and salsa are gluten free I had the Carnitas and was so full I could barely walk.

The whole staff was knowledgeable about gluten allergies. Very helpful and accommodating. The food came quickly and was delicious! Would eat here again.
Yes
Good food, knowledgeable staff, separate menu. Some reviews state there is a dedicated fryer, but I was told by my waitress today their corn tortillas are GF but the fryer is shared. Safer to skip the chips.
Very good. Excellent service. Separate gluten free menu and wait staff is very knowledgeable about Celiac Disease.

These guys are very aware and knowledgable! Very happy to find it. Great treat to be able to eat the chips.

Most delicious lunch! GF enchilada and taco. Highly recommend! Server was knowledgable about GF practices and needs.

Fantastic service before we even sat down. I requested the gluten-free menu, and when the hostess seated us, she let our waiter know, so he immediately came over to discuss recommendations from the gf menu. He also told me I could have the chips and regular salsa, but to stay away from the cheese dip. My husband isn't GF, so he asked for both to try. When they were brought out while the waiter was at our table taking our order, he again said "please don't eat the cheese dip, I would hate for you to get sick." I ordered the portabello fajitas with corn tortillas and they were outstanding. I had so much food that I didn't touch the chips/salsa, but they looked very tasty. I felt very safe eating there, and would eat there again for sure.

Loved it here! Chips are safe to eat! I can't remember the last time I had Mexican food! Loved it. Gluten free menu with a lot of options!!

A nice gluten free menu with a bunch of options! It was nice to have so many options. Chips are gluten free. Salsa with ok but not the cheese sauce.

Be sure to communicate with your server about your gluten free diet. My server was very knowledgeable about which items were gluten free and was cognizant to make note for the chef to be careful about cross-contamination. The kitchen is very serious about preventing cross-contamination. Please be aware that it is a shared fryer situation here- the complimentary chips and cheese dip are NOT gluten free. My server stated that the cheese dip uses flour, which is a shame because it is honestly one of the best cheese dips out there taste-wise.

Called ahead of time to confirm chips were not in a dedicated fryer. Manager was very knowledgeable and told me exactly how to modify the items I was looking at to be safe for me to eat. Great experience!

The server knew what he was talking about when I mentioned celiac and told me not to eat the chips. Thankfully I already knew that from this app considering he told me 10 mins after the chips were out, but still appreciated the effort. I ordered the ahi tuna taco plate that came out with white rice and black beans as well as corn tortillas and was brought out after the rest of the tables plates, which could be a good thing or just coincidence. I’ve seen the mixed reviews but so far so good and will give updates after the food settles in.
UPDATE: feeling fine (which the margarita could have helped) so A+ to them

My server was very knowledgeable about what options were most celiac safe. She recommended the fajitas to me because they are made in their own pan. The meal normally comes with Mexican rice but they will sub white rice for it if you let them know you have a gluten allergy/celiac. I asked about the corn tortillas and the server said she would make a note to request that they aren’t heated on any shared surfaces. The food was great!
They have quite a few gf options, but from my experience here, ordering fajitas is your best bet. I have felt not so great in the past when I tried their enchiladas.
*chips and white sauce here are not GF.

Waiter seemed to be knowledgeable but I asked very pointed questions based on reviews. I only had two options fajitas or fish tacos. I did fish tacos, he said swordfish is the only option with black beans and white rice. I ate one taco and felt sick within 10 minutes. Would not go ever again. They have items marked GF all over the menu that are not actually GF
