Dedicated GF sushi menu, and most hot kitchen items are already GF. We eat here 1 or 2 times a month and have never been sick.

I have had sushi here many times and have always loved my food. They do have a GF menu and understand which items are safe. They do have Tamari. My favorite sushi place in Bend.

Staff is very aware of celiac and almost every sushi item can be made GF. GF soy sauce is available, and all their sauces in the sushi are GF. The waiter handed me a GF menu with naturally GF items marked and any substitutions necessary marked. GF soy sauce available. Really great sushi, and great to try fun rolls like spicy tuna!

Update: sadly I’ve had to revise. In the past 6 months we’ve continued to eat many times at Mio but have had safety and quality go down. Despite always stating up front we need GF/celiac safety (and real crab) we’ve had fake krab in sushi, and there is definite confusion on whether their eel is safe - so ate it twice before someone told us it wasn’t safe.
Unfortunately, we can’t risk it anymore.

We’ve eaten here multiple times and really appreciate the restaurant’s willingness to make sure my son is safe. Plus it’s delicious sushi!

They have yamasa tamari and put in effort to avoid cross contamination.

Mio offers gluten free soy sauce upon request, and all of the sauces on their special rolls are gluten free. They are knowledgeable about substituting gf real crab for cake krab (which contains gluten). Just avoid the fried rolls and specify your GF needs and you’ll be good!

Update 2022: They no longer offer to change gloves, use separate knives or cutting boards or cut from fish that has not been cut into yet. A casualty of the pandemic, cost cutting measures, I guess. I even asked if I was the first person in the door could they work with me and they said no. Yet all there sauces are gluten free. Such a shame, our group could spend $100 easy. I will miss their sushi
The sushi is delicious and the staff is knowledgeable. The staff will also double check orders with the manager to make sure everything ordered is gluten free. The also will bring out gluten free soy sauce.
My complaints: they no longer have gluten free tempura & they now charge a $10.00 fee for ordering gluten free for people with Celiac. This is in addition to up charges for ordering dishes that have imitation crab and substituting real crab. I love the sushi but don’t frequent this restaurant as much as I used to due to the charge. PF Chang’s charges more for a gluten free dish than it’s counterpart, so it’s kind of the same, only Mio Sushi charged up front.
