Update: sadly I’ve had to revise. In the past 6 months we’ve continued to eat many times at Mio but have had safety and quality go down. Despite always stating up front we need GF/celiac safety (and real crab) we’ve had fake krab in sushi, and there is definite confusion on whether their eel is safe - so ate it twice before someone told us it wasn’t safe.
Unfortunately, we can’t risk it anymore.

We’ve eaten here multiple times and really appreciate the restaurant’s willingness to make sure my son is safe. Plus it’s delicious sushi!

They have yamasa tamari and put in effort to avoid cross contamination.

Their house sauce is gf AND they can use real crab rather than the gluten-infused imitation stuff so a lot of the rolls can be made gf if you let your server know. If you’re used to avoiding the “fancy rolls” with sauce and crab definitely go here for some yummy rolls!

Just went here for a birthday dinner. Waiter was very well informed, knew the difference between diet preferences and true sensitivities and guided me well. All the in house sauces and marinades are GF because they use tamari sauce instead of soy sauce and they make that available on table by request. Awesome fear free meal! Their teriyaki chicken is amazing.
Not safe for gluten free. At first, I was happy to hear that their sauces were gluten free and I was excited to try this place. The first time I ate here I was impressed with the variety of rolls and they were super accommodating with my GF needs. I had no problems at all. So I came back a 2nd time and this time I got super sick. I am very sensitive to gluten, but just a tiny amount won’t make me violently ill. This was not just a tiny amount of gluten. It takes a lot to make me THAT sick. Wow, it was so bad. I’m not sure why there was a problem with the 2nd visit. I carefully explained my GF needs both times. It was the same waitress both times. Anyway, skip this place if you have celiac or are otherwise GF.

We are regulars here, and never any issues (3 celiacs in the fam). Can easily put together a delicious and varied meal of GF sushi. All of their in-house sauces are GF. However, note that their Unagi is not made in-house, so that is glutenous. All rolls with fake glutenous crab can have real crab substituted (for a price). Keys to GF sushi eating: No tempura, no Unagi, substitute real crab for fake crab, ask for tamari instead of soy sauce--> Good to go!
Yes
GF soy sauce easily available. GF kalbi and teriyaki both delicious. They can make a GF bento box for you. The house green tea may have roasted barley; I avoid.
I really enjoy this place, the food is great. they are really knowledgeable about GF items and they have a lot to offer. Teriyaki chicken is amazing, and lots of specialty sushi rolls.
I go here oftenand I am never disappointed. the manager is very noligable about gluten and all the soy sauceused on the food is gluten free! some items even use real crab so it is gluten free friendly to kids. if you enjoy raw sushi there are many different types for people with celiac. ask your waitress about the options, they will be able to help you and give you some extra gluten free soy sauce as well.
Yes
Bummed that you can't have teriyaki or other delicious Japanese dishes because of the sauces? This place makes most of its sauces with gluten-free soy sauce! Monica the manager is friendly and eager to discuss all of the gf options. Steven the sushi chef is always friendly and welcoming, too.
Yes
Dedicated GF sushi menu, and most hot kitchen items are already GF. We eat here 1 or 2 times a month and have never been sick.

I have had sushi here many times and have always loved my food. They do have a GF menu and understand which items are safe. They do have Tamari. My favorite sushi place in Bend.

Staff is very aware of celiac and almost every sushi item can be made GF. GF soy sauce is available, and all their sauces in the sushi are GF. The waiter handed me a GF menu with naturally GF items marked and any substitutions necessary marked. GF soy sauce available. Really great sushi, and great to try fun rolls like spicy tuna!

Mio offers gluten free soy sauce upon request, and all of the sauces on their special rolls are gluten free. They are knowledgeable about substituting gf real crab for cake krab (which contains gluten). Just avoid the fried rolls and specify your GF needs and you’ll be good!
